Understanding Your Daily Focus
Hello fellow seekers! I hope that this week finds you doing well and enjoying some well deserved moments of joy, peace, and abundance.
I have been spending a lot of time looking at the night sky, in part because my trusty canine sidekick has wanted more midnight strolls than usual. We have been dealing with some high temps during the day where we are, and I think she enjoys the coolness that the darkness of evening brings. Like many people, I love to look up at the moon and remind myself that there is so much more to her than what we here on earth will ever be able to see.
This week’s Daily Focus stems from that illustrious orb, who in her quiet beauty exerts its magical pull on each of us and this planet that we call home.
“Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star.” -W. Clement Stone
This may be an oldy that we have all heard at some point in our lives, but it doesn’t make it any less true or relevant. We often hold ourselves back from truly reaching our potential out of fear of falling short of our goals, believing that, by not perfectly hitting the mark, we have failed. Instead of being worried about not making our goal the first time, perhaps we could find ourselves moving ahead faster if we realize that making it even half-way puts us closer than we were before to our ultimate goals. Today’s word is Progress.
“The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences.”
Most of us go through life feeling as if we need to prod things and people along, which can lead to feelings of resentment, tiredness, and helplessness when things don’t go along with our carefully laid plans. The moon, on the other hand, is so subtle in its influence that nature goes along without realizing that it has been changed, seamlessly and organically. We too can change people just by being steadfast in our path and beliefs. Our quiet strength can help others to desire that in their own lives, and before we know it we have brought about change that is self-sustaining because it stemmed from a desire to change, rather than our forcing it. Today’s word is Guidance.
“Don’t worry if you’re making waves just by being yourself. The moon does it all the time.” -Scott Stabile
How many times have you been told to stop rocking the boat, or be careful what you say so that you don’t upset people? I know it is something that I have heard repeatedly over the years and something I tried to not say as much to my own daughters. We are told to be proud to be ourselves, that we should strive to live authentically, as we are in our deepest core, but how can we do that if we are afraid of alienating people? The moon causes the rise and fall of the tides and does so unapologetically. It is okay to care about and for others, but remember that you still have to be true to yourself. Today’s word is Sway.
“Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human. Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.” –Tahereh Mafi
We all go through cycles where we feel that we are on the top of the world, followed by those days where the last thing we want to do is get out from under the covers. We have our good sides, our fair ones, and even our less than stellar characteristics, all of which contribute to our being perfectly imperfect. Even with all her craters, shadows, and rough spots, most of us can agree that the moon has a beauty that is all her own, and that her glow is truly ethereal. Today’s word is Flawless.
“We are all like the bright moon, we still have our darker side.” –Khalil Gibran
Dark and light need each other so that they can be appreciated for what they are and what they bring to us. It is important to embrace our darkness just as we embrace our light in order to become whole. Realize that there is no shame in having shadowy parts to who we are, but also know that if you find something that you want to change, you can change it. Today’s word is Introspection.
“Be both soft and wild. Just like the moon. Or the storm. Or the sea.” –Victoria Erickson
It is possible to embrace contradictions as truth. A rose is both delicate and sharp. A summer rain can come with a gentle patter or a torrential downpour. We can be both warm and welcoming or forces to be reckoned with depending on what part of ourselves we need to be. Allowing yourself to explore both sides of the spectrum makes it easier to find where your center is and therefore the point in which you will thrive. Today’s word is Opposites.
“But even when the moon looks like it’s waning…it’s actually never changing shape. Don’t ever forget that.” –Ai Yazawa
To those of us here on the ground the moon seems to change. It grows fuller and fuller until it is round and lustrous, and then it appears to diminish until it disappears completely from view. Although ancient cultures believed that it did disappear we now know that it is just how it appears; the ultimate magic trick! Sometimes what we think we see is not what is really happening, and what we observe may be different from what someone else does. Today’s word is Perspective.
