Spiritual Healing

As my new acupuncturist put it, we’ve all got hardware and software. Most times you go to the doctor, the tests they run are checking your hardware. But as we all know from our every day use of technology, the hardware might be fine, but if your software is malfunctioning, well, Houston, we’ve got a problem.

Many of us struggle for years with various ailments or allergies, never really understanding the root cause of them. We can find ways to temporarily medicate certain things but in the long run, how often do we address the root cause?

I’m not saying, drop Western medicine all together. I mean when you’re broken in one way or another, it’s nice to know there are people who have the knowledge and skills to try and fix you. But if something is a recurring issue, it may not be a bad idea to give acupuncture a try.

I’ve gone to a couple different people but I will say the most recent visit I had with an acupuncturist was eye opening to say the least. He made a good amount of sense but in a way that might not make sense right away. He basically attributed all my maladies to one thing, emotional stress/trauma and that made sense to me. Yeah the emotional trauma part made sense, I mean I am a comedian after all. But the part that really hit home was the way he connected it all together. Meaning, all the ailments that seem to be separate are really very intimately connected.

Well sure, all parts of my body are connected. I mean sometimes it feels like my head isn’t attached but …as frustrated as I was with said maladies, I started taking the herbs he recommended and within two days I saw a difference. After one session, I got over the fear of scary needles that turned out to not be so scary, because quite honestly, I really felt better afterwards! But my point in all this is not that you all fly out to LA to see this guy. My point is it got me thinking about how to really take care of our emotional selves so that things don’t manifest into physical problems.

What does it take to make sure our software stays upgraded and virus free? It doesn’t matter if you’re a MAC or a PC…sorry I couldn’t resist. What matters is how we process our experiences and our hurts. One friend recently suggested Kundalini yoga ( a form of yoga that deals a lot with meditation and releasing of stress), sometimes journaling or therapy helps. Whatever it is we each need to do, it’s important to realize, our emotional health is a direct reflection of our physical health and vice versa. So remember to take care of yourself and your mental health. If you need to heal, heal. If you need to cry, cry. If you need a laugh, laugh! After all, your body is the only operating system you’ve got, take good care of it!

    Hi, Marie,
Great post-you are so funny. Absolutely our emotional/mental/physical health are all connected and definitely influence each other.
Finding our own stress releaser-whether it’s a beach walk every day, needlepoint, talking to a friend, is an important tool as well as seeing our traditional or not so traditional health professionals.
Most important point-find what really works for you and speaks to you and continue to do it.
