Love Can Be Felt in the Afterlife
Alma in Laredo, Texas writes:
My husband and I had been separated for more than 20 years. He passed away on Easter, and the next night I dreamed of him. In my dream, I am sitting on the floor, weeping. He turns to tell me not to cry, and then bends down and kisses me on my chest, right below my chin. I wake up crying uncontrollably.
I did get to tell him I loved him the day before he passed. He really couldn’t speak well, but I understood him when he replied, “Love you.” Still, it just breaks my heart that we never really spoke all those years. I didn’t get to tell him all that had to be said, and now I’ll carry this till my time comes. If there was a way for me to speak with or see him one more time, I would embrace him and tell him that I and both his sons love him. He must have suffered a lot at the end, and I know now it’s too late, but I should have been there for him. He was my first love, and although we were separated, he was still my husband and the father of our two sons.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Please take comfort in knowing that your husband can feel your love in the afterlife. I know you’d rather tell him in person what is in your heart, but he can hear you if you speak to him. And please don’t be too hard on yourself for not being there when he was ill. Relationships can be complicated. I’m sure the separation was right for both of you at the time. Perhaps being alone was a lesson he needed to learn. What’s most important is that you were able to share such a special moment with him at his deathbed. What a blessing! The dream confirmed that he understands your grief and remorse. I think the kiss was an act of love and forgiveness. Certainly, your love sent him on his way with a lighter heart. I hope that knowledge will lift your heart as well.

A very touching story and heartfelt, I wish Alma in Laredo well. I too am seperated from a long term marriage and yes the whole dynamics change, there are things you wish you could say or do but there seems to be a fine barrier. However being open, fair , kind and honest seem to work for me as well. Good luck.
