Understanding Your Daily Focus

When we see people using Tarot cards, it’s most often for divination; however, if you were to strip away any sense of predictive augury or spirit, what you would be left with is a series of archetypes that force us to look at different aspects of ourselves. At any point in time, any card can be connected to some element of our lives. When we connect with the divine spirit, we can use these cards as a tool for divination and for seeking answers, but I want to use the cards in a different way today.

This is not a Tarot spread, or even a reading. Rather, it is a look into the themes and archetypes contained within a few of my favorite cards, and how we can bring those elements into our daily lives. The quotes I’ve chosen in today’s Daily Focus talk about how to use the cards for self-advancement, a way to take inventory of where you’re at emotionally. Remember, honest introspection always leads to growth.

Saturday, October 3

“If you don’t feel you have any choice in a situation, self-esteem and confidence plummet. But once you understand that you do have a choice, self-esteem will improve. You aren’t a helpless victim anymore. You decide how you deal with a situation. You aren’t just reacting to life; you’re creating your life.”Theresa Francis-Cheung

Let’s talk about the Devil. This imagery can evoke some scary thoughts when it shows up in a Tarot reading, but the Devil is less about the concept of evil, and more about temptation. The Devil can be seen as the card for vices. It often shows up when there is an addiction problem, or where there is an imbalance of party and play; however, sometimes indulgence is not such a bad thing, and it is the weekend after all. Saturday is the day to play, so don’t be afraid to dip your toes in the water of vice and have a bit of fun today.

Sunday, October 4

“The cards give you images and symbols to focus your vague intentions and transform them into action. Your will is the magic. In other words, you are the magic. If you can create something in your heart and then act on it to make it happen, that is magic.” –Theresa Francis-Cheung

The card for today is the Ten of Cups, which encapsulates happiness. It’s all about feeling emotionally fulfilled and at peace with yourself and the ones you love. Sunday is a day of rest and a day for family, so take today to enjoy yourself, the things, and the people you love before the work week starts all over again.

Monday, October 5

“Tarot is a way of sorting out what’s bothering you and getting advice from the best-informed source – you – in a way that you’re likely to listen to.” –Rosemary Edghill

The card for today is Strength, which I think is well suited for Monday. It can be hard to get back into the groove after time off, and this card is pretty self-explanatory. Stay strong, stay the course, trust yourself, and know what you’re capable of.

Tuesday, October 6

“Magical practice and Tarot give you the tools and opportunities to cultivate, explore, and expand that world, and its boundaries are infinite. Just like you.” –Sasha Graham

The Ace of wands is the card for today, and you can think of this card as curiosity, wonder, and exploration. Today is a day to try something new. Sign up for that class you’ve been considering or dive into that new book about theoretical physics. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and explore things on a deeper level. You will be surprised by what you find.

Wednesday, October 7

“If you want to understand your emotions, the rationale behind your words so that you can treat the source of your struggles; Tarot is the solution.” –Anujj Elviis

There is something kind of depressing about Wednesdays. Being midweek, knowing you have just as far to go as you’ve already come. The Moon is the card of sadness, darkness, when it is hardest to keep pushing through. Find something to make today a little bit better; treat yourself and keep pushing through.

Thursday, October 8

“The real power of the Tarot is that it can help you to live your psyche, your soul, with more creativity, more awareness, more imagination, more clarity, more understanding, and more joy.” –Philippe St Genoux

Today, our focus is on the Ace of Cups. This card is kind, generous, and compassionate. Often, it can indicate a new relationship or new friendship. Take that energy with you today and act with kindness as often as you can. You will be surprised by the rewards you reap.

Friday, October 9

“It’s said that the shuffling of the cards is the earth, and the pattering of the cards is the rain, and the beating of the cards is the wind, and the pointing of the cards is the fire. That’s of the four suits. But the Greater Trumps, it’s said, are the meaning of all process and the measure of the everlasting dance.” –Charles Williams

The Magician is all about doing. If you want to see rewards, you must put in the work. The Magician isn’t talking about physical labor; however, it’s talking about spiritual and emotional upkeep. Make sure to pause every once in a while, and take time to breathe, relax, and focus.
