Understanding Your Daily Focus
This week’s Daily Focus comes from an event I experienced while discovering an ancient, obscure pyramid on the Yucatan peninsula. There was no one nearby. Even the guide who took me to this site had wandered away and I had hours alone with the power of this magnificent, vine covered structure. Needless to say, my Guides joined their energies with this long-forgotten powerhouse to deliver some messages to us all.
In a time when things can feel so out of control and chaotic, it is good to take a moment and reconsider your priorities and your desires. We are going to explore what you can do to impact the world nearest you and the world at large. Each strand of our life’s web is intricately tethered to every other strand. The messages I received at the top of that pyramid were so simple, but stunningly profound.
No one is alone, no matter how isolating things may feel. It is in those moments we are able to see our true character. Do you like the way you respond to situations? If not, why not? Who is determining your response?
The biggest question you will ever ask your spirit is “Why?” It is usually followed with, “Why not?” These also require the most courage to answer. Please don’t let yourself ever become too afraid to explore those questions.
“I will become the gift of peace.”
Do you encounter moments when you could be a positive force for peace? Those moments can arrive in the form of sibling squabbling or extraneous noise from fear creators, like the daily news.
Ask yourself what you can do to instill peace into the situation. If you hesitate, utilize the big questions: Why? Why not? If you notice your family squabble seems to escalate for no apparent reason, pay attention to what is running in the background. Turn off the noise and watch the decompression begin!
“I will no longer compare myself to others.”
This is a big one! Once you accept yourself, you become impervious to the maneuverings of others. If you are a regular reader of my work in Daily Focus, you know that I support the concept of “turning off” the noises created by modern life. Most of those noises, whether they come in the form of a magazine or the countless commercials you are bombarded with every day, the message is the same: you are worthless without the consumption of some product. When you see your life with your OWN eyes, you become truly beautiful.
“I will look at my life honestly, and clear away the things that are keeping me from my dreams.”
The most courageous thing we can do is assess our life in an honest manner. It’s can be like a kind of “spiritual surgery”. It may be quite painful to remove the people or situations that have been causing you such distress, but you will feel so much better once the root of your problems has been removed.
“I can’t take material possessions with me when I leave this life. There are no luggage racks on a hearse!”
Today is a great day to reevaluate your priorities. The quality of your life is in direct relation to what you prioritize. If you are constantly chasing money, your life begin to take the characteristics of that target. Money is cold and empty. It is never fulfilled. It always leaves you wanting more. However, if you use money as simply a way to move you through your life, while making the experience of life itself the goal, you will find you suddenly have all you need.
“I will keep focused on all that I have and be thankful for all I don’t have.”
Here’s a little experiment that I have offered to thousands of my clients. Start a 30-day journal. For the next 14 days, write down three things you are grateful for having in your life. Maybe you are glad you have eyes to see with or ears to hear with. It doesn’t matter how far you have to reach to find those three things. After writing those three things each day for 14 days, begin the 15 day by writing three things a day that you are glad are NOT in your life. “I am glad I don’t have cancer. I am glad I can read and write…” Whatever is the cause of your gratitude, write it down for the next 14 days. On the 30 day, read the entire journal from beginning to end. You’ll be surprised how good your life really is.
“Today is a great day to claim my independence from negative thoughts and actions!”
The quality of your life is completely dependent on your perception. If you believe you are not good enough, you’ll be proven correct. If, however, you allow yourself to see your real strengths and beauty, you will see that you are a “prime attraction;” you are being sought out by some wonderful people.
“I will strive to make my life simple. It is not a struggle to embrace my true destiny.”
If you find yourself missing someone, call them. Don’t email or text. Reach out and talk. Look people in the eyes instead of through your computer screens. If you find yourself exhausted, take a nap. If you don’t seem to have enough time, remove some of the obligations. Life is what happens when you make other plans about filling it up with stuff that usually doesn’t matter much. Life is beautiful when you remember to K.I.S.S.: Keep It Stunningly Simple.
