Divining for Myself

I often talk to callers who utilize their own predictive resources. They call to get a confirmation of what they are “getting” and I have on occasion found it necessary to recite the statement, “The physician who diagnoses himself has a fool for a patient.” A long time ago I used the Tarot on myself. Over and over again I would throw the cards to finally get the answer that I needed. Accurate information was not my objective. Many professional psychics can’t read for themselves. Subjectivity is always an issue. There was seldom a time when I could be objective with my own readings. Over the years I have come to realize that the method I utilize for personal readings MUST have this required objectivity built into the technique. I have found that system.

Confucious is reputed to have written that if he had another full life to live, he would have spent it devoted solely to the I-Ching – also known as the Book of Changes. Back in his day, Yarrow sticks would be cast in such a way to create a hexagram. That is, six separate vertical lines, either broken or unbroken – yielding 64 possible combinations.  Each of these 64 hexagrams has a distinct meaning.

Today, it is possible to cast the I-Ching reading using only three coins, which are tossed six times to create the hexagram. The description is then read from a text, which was written thousands of years ago. There can be no conscious interference with the reading. However, this modernized system can be abused by persistent repetition. Unlike the Tarot, the I-Ching stopped me in my tracks.

I was experiencing, severe relationship issues at the time. I had just recently familiarized myself with the I-Ching. I was doing reading after reading. I was just not prepared to get what I was being shown, so strong was my need to have a particular outcome. Then, a moving line definition showed up and what I read made the hair on my neck stand up. It said,”I keep giving you the answer, and you keep not listening.”

From that moment on, whenever I do a personal reading, I only set up one hexagram, and I only refer to the I-Ching for serious issues. This means that I only read for myself a few times per year. I have learned respect.

The I-Ching reciprocates by always addressing my issue – not necessarily my question. The philosophical beauty and sensitivity of the wisdom presented by the I-Ching is timeless. It has never failed me. It always becomes an issue of, “Am I ready to hear?” I have learned over the years that it takes courage to face the truth. The truth is within. Courage creates easy access. Run with it.

I read somewhere that the only reason we created time is so everything does not happen all at once. I have had the experience several times around Jean where all of us were just sitting there no one talking and looking at each other with slack jawed expressions on our faces, not really knowing what just happened. Then Jean would say that it was a time blip. Then the last time it happened, I heard the kitchen clock ticking get loud, way too loud, then the ticking slowed down to about 5 seconds for every tick. Every else in the room looked still, like they were all in a trance. I looked at Jean, we were the only ones conscious of what was going on. She said, “Time just slowed down”. Most people miss it but for some reason I was allowed to experience it. I do not believe in time conceptually. I do not view it as a dimension, only a collective construct that sometimes slips its restraints. just my opinion.

I agree we all connect in different ways.
When I get a reading its because its to emotionally charged for me. Because of my empathic abilities I get my stuff and others too its a blessing to have someone we trust and connect with help us see it clearly and its like go to a spiritual spa …..I always feel better when someone else washes my hair does my nails & feet. So On a spiritual level that is what it’s like for me to get a reading. We do have some really gifted people here and I support them lovingly as they have always been for me. You know who you are.

    Hi Randall,
One more thought, you , in a prior blog , you mentioned something about time not existing on the other side, not as we here, on the earthly plane, perceive time anyway. It was a short statement…but I totally agree.
I would love to read more on the timing thing…..and I think the clients would too. Please consider writing an article on time.

Personally, I just know that whenever I am certain about anything, that that is precisely where my learning stops, and that is EGO manifested. Just my opinion. Reality checks through others is a resource. Not to be discounted.

    hi…..
I guess you couls say I believe in a system of checks and balance.
Do I need a yearly reading ???….not really.
But, as a professional psychic and teacher in this field, I view it as an EXERCISE in humility…humility is also one of life’s lessons. It’s good, now and then, to brush aside the ego, and also to TRUST,and connect with other souls who resonate on a high spiritual level.
We are ALL connected on a soul level.

    Hi Abigail,
    Yes…I agree….
Personally speaking….I think it’s also a good exercise, ESPECIALLY for a psychic, to get counsel from another objective psychic. Remember too that human nature involves the ego…..I think it’s a good exercise to set aside the ego and listen to the advice of another psychic….to hear objective ,constructive criticsm.
Some, in fact many, of my reasons for not reading for myself, or people too close to me, are the same as
Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and most therapists…..who, for ethical reasons, cannot legally in most states ( in the case of Psychiatrists and Psychologists ), and will not counsel or treat themselves and relatives…or close friends…(conflict of interest reasons.)
Remember, I built my career reading for the top Psychiatrists M.D.’s in the country.
AND I feel that ,(personally speaking again), we are ALL down here to learn…..
…IF we,and I’m referring to psychics reading for themselves in general, all had the answers to our own individual problems ….we would not need to be on the earthly plane to begin with…we would have no need to re-incarnate.( I’m not talking about listening to gut-hunch intuition…I’m talking about reading specifics).
My gift is not meant to help me, as I have a Karmic path, filled with life lessons, to walk too… as much as it is meant to help others.

    hey guys!
I have been thinking about getting a reading from somebody here at CP for some time,.but who? There are so many unique perspectives and ways on how to do what we do.I think everyone of us does a reading a different way.
I will add that I am in daily contact with my main spirit guide Lucinda every day,.and she is in essence my psychic,.who somehow never tires of me when Im going through a tough,.or multiple transitions,.(isnt it great when they all happen at once?).Lucinda told me that while Im working at CP,.Im a spirit guide in the flesh,.which helped me make sense out of doing what we do.”do for others what I do for you”,.she explained in simple terms.
I also cant resist pulling tarot and especially medicine cards between calls for myself and working on myself almost non stop. When I get a card that I dont like,.I try to discover where im hung up,..fix it,..and then pull again. In my medicine cards I get the same animals over, over, and over again,..they will just keep coming until I accept and really understand how to apply there message.(Especially,..the Big Cats.)

    Phillip,
Another sensitive, well-thought out article. Thank you for it. What a wonderful variety of answers to your article from our talented colleagues. I’m one who does not believe I personally can read as accurately for myself-not nearly as accurately as I can read for others-no emotional involvement. However, I do believe others may be able to read for themselves-all depends on our own individual make-up—ability to detach as opposes wanting to control the outcome (I may be guilty of that one myself). I can do the detaching and allowing Spirit to speak through me for others, but not so well for myself.

    Hi TeriLynn and Randall,
I most closely identified with your responses. My first guide showed up when I was 8 years old. That’s 50 years of learning to have complete trust in her, even when I don’t agree with what she is telling me. I don’t really think of it as reading, because she is always there. Seriously, if I get into the wrong line at the store…she complains! :~D It’s like having a chatty sister.
It’s also about timing. We tend to want things NOW. At times answers will come naturally and you are just not meant to know at that minute. This is such a personal and individualistic quest, there is no way way one way can be better than the other.
I can read for myself but will call another reader for confirmation if I feel my self interest is too close to be certain.
I will also read for my daughters and my Grandson, who refuse to go elsewhere, because they feel I am accurate for them. When it comes to neighbors and friends, they may think they want a reading, but later become uncomfortable because they didn’t expect you to zero in on their privacy. Have to use caution there.
In the end, “Know Thyself”, yet stay open to new perspectives.

Hi Jacqueline, Interesting that you came up with that system to do self-reading. In hypnosis there is a technique for “time line” regressions, where you have the client “rise” above their personal drama and view their life from a detached non-emotional perspective. Then travel down the time line to the past. This is a good way to retrieve past memory blocks and to even go to pre-birth past life memories. It is all possible to detach , and yes it is difficult when you are emotionally attached with the result. Regards to everyone.

Hello all Psychics; Very interesting input from each of you and it again reminds me we are each a beautiful flower blooming in a different way but yet offer the same psychic capability with our particular art. I have had several psychics call me to validate their feelings and input. I find this reassuring myself. I have read myself sometimes being right on, and other times I cannot understand what I received. When I don’t understand what I have, I have noticed it was a really important answer I was seeking. Knowing you have psychics available to you for clarification, to me is a gift, which I will gladly accept. To say a persons skill is not as valid as another to me is lacking in “psychic” awareness! Using tools is as valid an approach as the psychics, who use nothing, and the same is true of Psychics who can read themselves or other’s who prefer to be validated with their own findings. Spiritually we are here to learn to become the best we can be as a being/person! The test of this truth is giving to each of us, differently and in different ways. Love and Light, TeriLynn X9625

    Phillip,
Nice article we all get these calls and many good points from all. It is hard to read your self and others because we are to emotionally attached to the situation. That is why I don’t for certain things. I agree with Miss Krystal on her points about conditioning and what I call emotional behavior of being able to shut down all emotion by choice like flipping a switch. Even though I have Venus in Aquarius and most think I can do that because of astroligical aspects I’m also a sensor, empath on both levels so I feel it all LOL. .Jaqui is talking about getting into her higher self and detaching to get the answers to problems which is so wonderful. Gina Rose is absolutely correct about the doctor metaphore she has had a reading with me and I with her. Our connection is amazing. I also had a reading once with Randall which was wonderful he immediately picked up on my abilities I did not tell him I was also a reader. He got my guide is what happened. Randall does Native American Shaman works and I have 3 Native American guides It’s the main one that most male psychics see right off the bat. I use to think that I could only trust myself to get things done when I was a leader in the corporate world because being a Capricorn I am a perfectionist. Its not true all I did was burn out. Surround yourself with good people and everyone benefits. There’s an art to delegating. There is also the wonderful benifits of allowing a good reader in our field to read for us its like being able to see the forest through the trees. And we all know who we connect with and who we don’t. I get a total abreaction when someone is telling me something that is not true. You are all wonderful readers with your own style & gifts. Sending much Love & Light
    Many Blessings

    Hi Randall,
    How are you feeling ??????
I do trust my gut hunches in general…and I do follow my own advice…I actually am never in dire need a psychic reading, as my life is well-managed, with no drama.
…but I don’t think my ” gift ” is to be used by me for me …..I like being read by others to hear their un-biased view point. They have, in the past, pointed out things , accurately, that I might have not wanted to acknowledge….or work on.
You are the first psychic I’ve heard say that they can read themselves.
You, by the way, picked up on something that may be coming true…..time will tell….something I really wasn’t looking for or wanted might have found me. ( smile…I’ll let you know)

Great Article Phillip, thanks for sharing all your wisdom with us,
Love all of your remarks Miss Krystal, and Gina Rose…..
I have found from time to time I can use this little trick or method to have the ability to read for myself, It has worked, I find when I have thoughts or concerns I go into a meditative state imaging or place myself in back of the room looking either down or off to the side looking at myself sitting there, like I was looking at another person almost to the point where you disconnect from yourself and then at that point I look at myself where I’m at the concerns I may be having and the questions I would like answered….
It has been succesful, although I try not to read for friends, this tends to get a little sticky not as accurate, so I try to avoid those who always seek me out for free readings and call themselfs my friend, I’m sure this can be a whole
    conversation in itself.
    Avoidance is best!

    PS…..
I call once or twice a year for a kind of “psychic yearly check-up”. Being in the field for 43 years…I COULD call my personal psychic FRIENDS in the field, but I WANT a totally objective reading….so I call CP.
As stated earlier….I do NOT read for myself, relatives, or friends…..but, on the other hand, I don’t let them read for me either.
Last year I called Randall…. who gave me a
fantastic reading, this year I called Phillip who gave me an excellent 5 star reading.Violet gave me an excellent reading last year but has now become my friend.
I may call Jacqueline,Matt, Seha next time out…..*******or close my eyes and choose randomly from the list.
Personally speaking, it’s because I WANT an objective reading …I WANT the psychic I’m speaking with to point out my ” trouble areas “…..areas where I need to grow yet…Karmically/Spiritually.
I would love to hear what the other psychics have to say about this article…..

    Hi Phillip,
    Yet another very good article…..
First thing I teach a student is that you cannot read yourself. I’ve never met any famous psychic that ” reads ” themselves…you just cannot stay emotionally objective enough to do it…..PERIOD.
I do not read for myself, relatives, or close friends….EVER. About the only thing I use my gift for, when it comes to myself, are things like finding an empty parking space at Xmas time at a mall….or misplaced keys , etc.Basically ,anything that does NOT involve emotions. LOL.
I read best ” cold “…….as I trust what my Guides are pulling in and giving to me. All I want is the question and a first name…..I’ll do the rest.
Thank You Phillip……another great article !!!!!

Hi there Philip-I think we have all tried to read for ourselves..
I honestly do not think it works. For example, we can absorb too much extreme energy.
It’s hard to objective with ourself. Not everything produces exact numbers and stats, for example, a scale to determine a persons body weight…Most scales, if working properly, do not lie….Reading for yourself is not like that at all.
It is open for interpretation-we need someone else to direct that path….
I think Confucious needed to spend the next life in spirituality. Confucious principles are of extreme authority, male domination, especially with raising children and having a family. Although some of the disciplinary standards have been known to result in the children being successful with school, work and arts etc., on the other hand, a lot of these children grow up having major emotional problems, keeping their fear all bottled up inside, no matter how much Kung Fu they can do.
Additionally, a lot of the children raised under confucious principles have had problems expressing happiness, and a lot of them deal with being too reserved, cautious and can’t really let loose. There are major studies done over the years that you can look up online in psychology journals about all of this, it’s a very interesting study, and I suggest all parents or parents to be, reading about this..But if you do, also read the opposite, passive -permissive parenting…As a result of confucious principles, a lot of these kids grow up having the courage to succeed in the professional arena, but not have the courage to communicate emotion….Hmmmm….
When I spent a lot of time in mainland China, I went to some of the schools….I walked into an art class, the kids must have been all under 8 years old. Let me tell you, these kids were drawing, making things with their hands, that still today, as an adult, I am unable to do….I know that has something to do with the discipline they have been exposed…Definitely confucious principles…And then, in Shanghai, I visited a music school for kids….Oh my goodness, little five year olds able to play classical music…I have the pictures…No doubt there is discipline needed in order to grow…
…Therefore, a high percentage of children being raised in this environment, have major success in their scholastic and professional life. Almost a paradox…I guess this is better than permissive parenting and over indulging your kids…Well, then the kids just get spoiled and have no motivation….But I am glad to hear Confucious recognized that there was a big spiritual world out there….Very interesting article….Thanks, Miss Krystal
