Red Responds: She Wants a Job Change

Sandy in Alexandria writes:

I know many people are unemployed and I am grateful to have a job, but I am in desperate need of a change. I have been looking and going on interviews for the last 8 months. My goal is to find a job that will allow me to use all of my talents, continue to grow both professionally and personally and increase my current salary by a minimum of 25%. Do you see me achieving my goal anytime soon? Thank you for taking the time to respond to me.

Dear Sandy,

Unfortunately, with the economy in such a challenging state, it is going to take you longer than you’d like to make this transition. The opportunities in the salary range you are looking for are few and far between, with a lot of competition. So, even though it is going to be a frustrating quest, you have to keep looking.

Employers really do have job seekers over the barrel right now. Even though I do see you finding and accepting a position over the summer months, it does initially fall short of your goals. Fortunately, the opportunity to grow and progress quickly will compensate for the initial lack of salary. While it will be a step up from what you are currently earning, it does not appear to meet your goal of 25%.

Even though things may not be perfectly in line with your vision, this is going to be a good transition for you. Your talents and experience will be tested and rewarded. Professionally, you will be supported and will also receive significant recognition for your efforts and achievements. It’s a pretty fast-paced environment, but in an organized way rather than a chaotic way. Very often you will be given the opportunity to have creative control and work independently, even though you are part of a team.

Over the course of a 4-year period, you will flourish professionally. If having a corner office is one of your goals, you will achieve it rather easily.

Hang in there and good luck!

Brightest Blessings,
