How to Leave the Past Where It Belongs

Regaining Your Self-Confidence

While we all experience moments of self-doubt, for many of us this internal fear becomes paralyzing, leaving us in a loop of unhealthy patterns that keep us down and seemingly unable to move forward. As we continue living life in a loop, we often find we develop (and maintain) very low standards and expectations of others and ourselves while simultaneously avoiding setting and attaining personal goals, and ultimately, continuing to live in the past.

A small majority of us, however, utilize self-doubt to increase ambition and motivation toward new directions. Studies show high achievers as not only suffering the most from self doubt, they additionally minimize personal accomplishments throughout life, seeming to others ungrateful or “disconnected” on their path to perceived glory.

In general, social belief systems in our society often downplay personal power, which creates and sustains a personal belief structure built upon a very self-limiting foundation. In eras past, personal choice and responsibility was traded for following the Word of God through religion. Today, we have many more choices available to us as we attempt to thrive in a culture emphasizing self-direction. Unfortunately, many of us lack the confidence to seize self-directed possibilities to fulfill our potential in the highest capacity.

Most of us would love to live more fulfilling lives with healthy relationships, peace of mind, and opportunities to maximize our potential, though the million dollar question remaining is “How?”… Overcoming self-doubt is the key, and is monumentally easier to transform than it is to continue to hold on to, forever limiting yourself in all ways. The first step simply requires a shift in mindset from automatic to manual mode. Once we actually begin to think and become open to hearing the beat of our own drum, or exploring what it might be, we can be free from absorbing everyone else’s beliefs, opinions, issues and emotional baggage.

You can begin living the life you want and deserve by adopting the mindset that we create our own world, shape our own experience of it, and are ultimately solely responsible for deciding what stays and what goes in our lives.

Allow yourself to “think outside of the box” and determine not what you do not desire but what you do, and begin taking baby steps so you can firmly and confidently step onto your path. You and you alone not only know your needs and wants, you select your experiences with each choice and interaction you make. Choose today to release self-limiting beliefs and relinquish self-doubt forever. No one else can “do the work” for you… and what you do today largely determines your perception and experience of tomorrow.

You owe yourself the opportunity to be yourself and to fully experience all the beauty and potential that is you. You CAN make the choice to get out of the “loop,” whatever it might be. But until you realize you deserve only the best and become motivated to change limiting beliefs about yourself—for this reason and this reason alone—you can continue to expect only more of the same old ruts, hurts, and barriers to happiness and inner peace. You deserve more!

To move beyond the past and experience positive transformation around you, you must first look within to fully live, and love, in today as you now create your tomorrows to come.

    Hello Giovanna,
Informative article, too often I believe we become prisoners in our own mind, being able to control our thoughts, the voices in our head, ultimately what we choose to make real is the hardest thing to accomplish but not impossible, the first step is to be fed up enough to decide that you are done with the old, second is to actually put forth the steps that works best for you personally to release from your reality.

Once you choose this as your future you will be utterly surprised and fulfilled at the joy that will come your way.

    Blessings and Big Hugs!

    Hi Giovanna,

Great article, as it might help many struggling to get over past painful memories ……

the past has purpose, in that we can use it in a productive way, to learn and grow,

… only from our mistakes ( Karmic life lessons ) can we learn to evolve and change ….to shape and mold a better present and future

    Blessed Be )O(
