The Wonderful World of Tea

Tea has been a beloved drink around the world for centuries, with many varieties that make tea the perfect drink for all times of the day. Caffeinated black, oolong, and green teas are perfect for a morning wake up call, while the countless herbal tea recipes that exist are perfect to end the night with. Of course, the most important thing about tea is all of the wonderful things it can do for us.

The Benefits of Tea

Tea, in its purest form, is a very healthy beverage. White and green teas contain lots of antioxidants while black and oolong teas have enough caffeine to sustain you throughout the day. Meanwhile, herbal teas can soothe a sore throat, alleviate stress, or help you sleep at the end of the day. The best news about tea, however, is that most of the things that make up these beneficial combinations are so easy to get ahold of, that you can make your own tea recipes without difficulty. Skin-Soothing Bath Tea

As wonderful as tea is to drink, it can be used externally as well, specifically in the bath. Tea, combined with Epsom salts and herbs, can help your skin look healthier, and soothe sore muscles at the end of a long day. Here’s a recipe that includes cocoa tea that you can give as a gift, or keep all to yourself.

  • 1 1/2 cups Epsom salt
  • 1/2 cup Himalayan pink salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk (or substitute powdered coconut milk)
  • 1/2 cup organic dried rose petals
  • 6tbsp cacao tea (or substitute cocoa powder for the tea)
  • 15-20 drops cacao essential oil
  • Biodegradable tea bags or muslin bags
  • Mason jar with lid
  1. In a large bowl, mix 1/2 cup powdered milk with the cacao tea, dried rose petals, and salts.
  2. Add the essential oil and thoroughly mix your ingredients.
  3. Scoop the tea mixture into reusable muslin or tea bags. Tie tightly. Alternatively, you can store your tub tea in mason jars and scoop into your muslin or tea bags shortly before use.
  4. To use, steep your tea for a few minutes in hot bathwater before getting in. You can also place the tea bag directly under the running bathwater. The water should be hot enough to steep the tea but be careful not to scald yourself.
  5. After use, place the contents of the tub tea into your compost or organics bin. Make sure to wash your muslin bags before your next bath
