Understanding Your Daily Focus
Hello fellow seekers, have you found yourself stuck recently? This week it felt as if every time I tried to get something moving or started, instead of getting anywhere I found myself stuck! I am one of those people who tends to have multiple projects going at any one time, mainly because if I hit a wall or issue with one, I can easily shift to another until I can make headway in the first again. Kind of like using lesser known roads to get around traffic. But even in my driving about this week, I kept hitting roadblocks, or flooding of the roads.
It is so easy to lose focus or energy when we come upon obstacles that stop us in our tracks. It’s hard to even feel like trying to move forward when you can’t figure out which direction to try next. In this week’s Daily Focus, let’s focus on trying to realize that being stuck is something that we can overcome and, if we are creative enough, we can find a way, and the energy to pull ourselves out of the stickiness.
“We all have to deal with speed bumps in our lives, but they aren’t stop signs.”
One of the most important things we can do is realize that sometimes being stuck is not a bad thing. Many times, the Universe puts our lives on pause to help shift our perspective or look deeply at our reasons for pursuing the path that we have taken. Take this moment to look at things honestly and learn the lesson that this speed bump is bringing into your life. Today’s word is Intermission.
“Fear is the glue that keeps you stuck. Faith is the solvent that sets you free.” -Shannon L. Alder
Often, we know that we need to break free; we even can feel that we need to do something different, but our fear of failing or the fear of doing something new holds us back, like prisoners. It is in these moments that we need to have faith in ourselves and in our abilities to manifest the life that we desire to live. Today’s word is Believe.
“When you are stuck in the same routine for months, you stop seeing new opportunities.”
We humans are creatures of habit, aren’t we? Most of us like routine and to be able to anticipate what will happen next, but this same routine can blind us from seeing what other options and paths our lives could take. Much like zoning out while driving, only to ‘wake up’ after you have passed your exit 15 minutes earlier, we do the same thing in our day to day life. We should always strive to be aware of what we are doing, where we are going, and what opportunities might be there for us if we can only realize that they are there. Today’s words are Tune In.
“The way to get unstuck is to start down the wrong path, right now.” -Seth Godin
Sometimes the only way to get unstuck is to just do SOMETHING – ANYTHING, but what if what we choose is the wrong thing? So what if it is? You made a step, a choice, you tried something new and learned from it. You learn more about who you are as a person, what you really want, and more importantly what doesn’t work for you. Even the wrong path isn’t necessarily a bad one; just not the right one right now. If you find yourself realizing that you have started down a path that isn’t the right one for you, don’t get down on yourself. You had the courage to do something and now that you are unstuck you can re-direct your energy to the path that is right for you. Today’s word is Detour.
“Feeling unsure and lost is part of your path. See what those feelings are showing you and use them.”
Even when we are on the right path we sometimes doubt if what we are doing is the best choice for us, and that is both normal and pretty healthy. Sometimes those feelings are an important key to understanding our true motivations in life and can help us figure out what to do should we start to feel stagnant. Today’s word is Inspiration.
“If you get stuck, draw with a different pen. Change your tools; it may free your thinking.”
I have a dear friend who is an author with FOUR pen names. I asked her if it makes it hard to get anything done with 4 different pen names and she said that in many ways it helps her, because if she is feeling blocked on one of the books, she switches to one of the other genres that she writes in, and that can give her perspective into how to get past whatever is blocking her. Changing our environment, even something as simple as where you are sitting, can make a major impact on our state of mind. So if ‘writing’ your life with that pen isn’t working for you, grab a crayon, or a piece of chalk, or even a paintbrush! It’s your life and you can write it in any medium you want. Today’s words are Get Creative!
“Do not wait until conditions are perfect to begin, beginning makes the conditions perfect.”
If we were to wait for everything to be perfect before we started anything, we would be waiting forever. There will always be a reason not to take that first step; why we shouldn’t leave a job or relationship that no longer infuses our lives with joy, or to go back to school. But we should not allow familiarity to hold us back from reaching our full potential. We are in a new month and now is the perfect time to choose to make changes. Beginnings can be beautiful and can allow us to say goodbye to a life that doesn’t serve us. Today’s words are Imperfectly Perfect.
