Libra Fun Facts

The Powerful Warrior, Venus

The great gift of the Goddess is truly alive in the sign of Libra and its ruler, Venus. There are so many people with Libra Sun or rising signs who express, even represent the gifts and beauty of this sign that it boggles the mind. What is Venus’ amazing power? Attraction, pure and simple, and she “blesses” every planet or star she appears to be near in the sky. For just a few examples, we can consider these Venus types.

“Use astrology to discover if you and your partner are right for each other.” – Psychic Charrmayne ext. 5058

Sex and beauty goddesses, many with great talent include: Marion Cotillard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Gwen Stefani, Hillary Duff, Avril Lavigne, Naomi Watts, Kelly Preston, Rita Hayworth and Brigitte Bardot. The sexy “gods” include: Matt Damon, Will Smith, Sting, Denzel Washington, John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen and Luke Perry. Charismatic leaders include President John F. Kennedy, Senator John Edwards and President Bill Clinton. And of course,  perfect for the sign of relationships, it includes such couples as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas and Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.

Are you feeling dazzling enough yet, Libra? After all, your “star,” the planet Venus, is the most brilliant point in the sky in the late evening or early morning hours. Then there is the fact that today’s Western zodiac sign of Libra is actually part of the Great Ancient Goddess constellation, including the beautiful star, Spica, known as the gift of the goddess, the Pearl, the Jewel and the Christ Child in Christian Astrology.

Libra has actually evolved over time, and we can trace this sign to the goddess cultures over 3,500 years ago when this entire area of the sky belonged to Great Mother in her various forms. Libra at that time of the origins of Western astrology was seen as part of the massive constellation of the Scorpion when the scales were the Scorpion’s claws.

Most Librans will recognize the symbol of the Scales representing their sign—actually you are the only zodiac sign with a symbol that isn’t an animal, a human or a combination of the two. While the scales symbolize balance and relationships—so important to Libra natives—there is so much more to the sign. To the Babylonians, the brilliant stars of Libra were the gates to the safe haven of the home of the King where he found safety. This can be seen as the planets appear to pass between these two stars as they leave the constellation of Virgo and approach the Scorpion constellation.

Astrologer Bernadette Brady relates these gates to the Greek story of Jason and the Argonauts sailing through the Symplegades—two treacherous crashing rocks that no ship had passed through previously without being smashed. Jason sent a dove—the bird of Venus—ahead of the ship. The dove passed through only losing some tail feathers. Jason followed and sailed through safely in pursuit of the Golden Fleece.

This is a beautiful description of the Libran phase of our spiritual journey when we leave the safety of our personal world to engage in relationships and commitments to others. Your own journey can often seem as exciting and occasionally treacherous as that of Jason’s Argonauts.

The Libra sun first travels through the late part of the Vedic Lunar Mansion/Nakshatra Uttara Uttara Phalguni containing the imagery of the stars of Alkes, the crater, cup or Holy Grail and can often be the “womb of greatness.” Famous mom’s with this star prominent include Mary McCartney, Paul’s mother and his first wife, Linda, who is the mother of Stella, Mary and James.

Next, the Hindus saw Hasta “the hand” reflecting Librans’ work with their hands. The Romans star Vindimiatrix, the grape gatherer or winemaker, is here. Roman sons Michelangelo and Caravaggio used this creative “hand” amazingly. This area of the sky also has Ariadne’s marriage crown of flowers, Coma Berenices. Both celebrity Libra couples—Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas and Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon—have important planets and points throughout the sign of Libra, reflecting all the Nakshatras in this area of the sky.

Finally, Librans born October 10 and later have their suns in Chitra, the Star of Opportunity. The beautiful star here, Spica, the great gift or jewel, is prominent in such celebrity charts as Kim Kardashian, Zac Ephron, Hugh Jackman, John Mayer, Usher and Ken Watanabe.

For a little more fun, consider the fact that while Libra and Taurus are both Venus ruled signs, Libra has more of a “warrior goddess” quality, particularly when injustice is perceived. Thus, John Lennon, President and 5-Star General Dwight Eisenhower and Margaret Thatcher portrayed this side of Venus through art or politics. In her Underworld Babylonian form, Erishkigal/Venus was so powerful that she terrorized the other gods when her lover Nergal/Mars had to leave that they sent him back to the Underworld regularly. They were eternal lovers and very fierce about it. Just like you, beautiful Librans are about your lovers!

Your ruler Venus has some of the richest history of any of our sky myths. She enchants, blesses and demands justice, harmony and beauty. You beautiful Librans make life worth living for all of us!
