3 Steps to Boost Intuition

Every human being has intuitive gifts. Unfortunately, 98% of the population chooses not to use them. Let me be clear, the best intuition is going to be absolutely useless if it is constantly overwritten by your thoughts, if you don’t hone it, or if you flat out ignore it! Who you are and how you appear to others is a direct result of not just your spoken word, but also your actions. Claiming to be intuitive while ignoring your gut feelings and dissecting everything to death, is the equivalent to a morbidly obese person telling you they are athletic or fit.

We all have it! “It” being the nagging feeling that we are in danger or that something is wrong. We can sense when we are being lied to, cheated on, or disliked, just as we can tell when someone clearly likes us, loves us, admires us or is honest with us. Listening to this inner voice, however, is a different ball game! I therefore challenge you to think about the last time someone pulled the wool over your eyes — especially when someone cheated on you. And now tell me that you didn’t sense it/see it coming/knew it. If you start asking around, you’ll find that almost everyone you’ll talk to will tell you something like “I knew she/he was being dishonest,” or “I knew that something was up, I just couldn’t prove it.”

I learned to listen to these hunches, because I found that my gut is never wrong. It is my mind and emotions that are wrong, a lot! By trying to give someone the benefit of the doubt, by talking myself into the story of not having any proof, by arguing that there is no way I could have possibly seen this coming, etc., I effectively talked myself out of avoiding some very bad situations and bad relationships in the past. If you are interested in truly honing your intuition, here are three skills that will help you do so:

1. Meditation or reflection. Find a quiet place, sit and listen to your “inside.” Acknowledge when mundane thoughts come in, such as, “I have to do the laundry,” and let these thoughts go. Focus on your breathing and pay attention to what comes up for you.

2. Focus and be specific. For example, think of a new person you may have met. This could be a person you met at work, at the gym, in a bar or anywhere else for that matter. Focus on your very first impression of this person. What did you “sense?” What thoughts, images or feelings came up?

3. Practice. Write down, if you can, any first impressions you get of people, situations or before you have to make a decision. For example, if you meet a person who seems “shady,” write that down and also note why you sense that. Check back with this “journal” a few weeks later and check on how accurate you were.

To start strengthening one’s intuition, one has to get in touch with oneself first and be aware of how one feels or what one senses. I, personally, have a hard time explaining why I sense what I sense about people at times. There have been numerous situations where people would tell me how great someone is and I would meet them and think “this is a time bomb ready to go off,” or “wow, he/she has everyone fooled but I am sensing that this person is …”

I find that the five senses are the easiest to fool. It is this “sixth sense” that tends to be dead on and extremely accurate!

Carmen, I know you wrote this blog quite some time ago, but I’ve only been a member a year or so. I consider myself very intuitive but I have questions about #2s and 3. When I initially met the person I have been involved with on and off with for about 6 years, I had no bad “sense” about him. He was very attentive and always wanted to be around me when we were out with friends on the weekend. If I didn’t show up somewhere on a Saturday night, his friends told me he was very disappointed I wasn’t there.

As the years went on he has become more vague about what he does on weekends (I don’t go out with him – dinner before, but I just can’t “hang” any more.) He has changed so much. He was not “shady” when we first met, but has become more so over the years. I just don’t understand what his issue is. I work with 3 psychics here at CA and they assure me that everything is going to turn out fine, but I still get the “gut” feeling.

I now burn sage, incense and candles not only to remove the negative energy from the home but also from me.

    Hi there
My dreams are very realistic predictions and usually when I wake wait to come real. But also many times my intiusion tell me when something will wrong happen even when I cant explaine why I have this feeling by the time actually happen to be true….But my dreams are like being in different dimension and that has been happening from very early in my childhood. Many mediums in the past told me that I have some natural gift and is shame that I didn’t develop by now but the problem is that I don’t know how to do that I need guideness…

Thank you for the great suggestions and feedback! I do have a fountain and I love the sound of water.
For Jade: I generally write my blogs for the average person and in response to questions like “how do you keep manifesting things in your life?” Due to that, I use the term “gut” because everyone knows what I mean by that, versus “third eye” which might not be understood by those who have absolutely no spiritual or metaphysical background. In addition, I like to reach the skeptics and doubting Thomases and they don’t respond too well to the terms known to us 🙂
But you are absolutely right, intuition can be felt in areas outside the gut. Some of us “see” and/or “hear” intuition. But for the sake of simplicity, I don’t add terms such as “spirit guides,” because I have lost people in the conversation there, or they felt sad because they “don’t have any guides.” If I call it an old term we are all familiar with, everyone can understand and create from that space.
    Blessings to all of you,
    Carmen

Much gratitude for the response! I am so happy to hear that I have a natural source nearby & I will use that! The sun rises above it each morning & when it does it shimmers in the light, quite lovely. Blessings & big hugs to you as well!

    Hi There!
About the water, does living near water help? I live near a river that I can see from my back windows. I would love a fountain, but I am sure my kitties would too! LOL! 🙂 My kitten loves water, the bonehead has fallen in the tub a few times.

I agree with Jacqueline-I would also like to add, that sandalwood and eucalyptus are also great aromas. But the music really does attract the spirits. Another thing, I have put this before, but putting a small fountain in your home is also good. I learned this in mainland china. When we “hear” the sound of water, it does so much for us emotionally and enhances our environment.
    Blessings,
    Miss Krystal

    Fantastic article Carmen,
You give such great ways on opening up to ones intuition.
I would like to add, switch the energy in your home, I have found this to be so helpful when your environment is clear then you can become clear, ways that I have found most helpful is,
Burning Sage, Cedar or Pine incense or actual plant itself.
Play rhythmical or meditation music, it attracts the spirits.
    Burn candles.
I have found this so helpful.
    Blessings and Big Hugs..
