Red Responds: Is This Organization Right for Her?

Nicola in the UK writes:

Spirituality has drawn me for some time and I have for the past 18 months been involved with an organisation that has had lots of media attention through celebrity. Things have happened recently that have left me in doubt as to whether this is the right path for me. Your help would be appreciated as at the moment I don’t have anyone I could speak to about this. Many thanks!

Dear Nicola,

The first thing that you need to understand is that there is a difference between spirituality and religion. Religion teaches about spirituality, but it isn’t necessarily a spiritual path – unless you can continue to believe in the teachings. The organization you have been involved with presents more as a religion – one that borders on a cult. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with that – this particular group teaches a lot of valid things, which is why they have a strong following.

A spiritual path is just that, a path. Different approaches and organizations all have something to offer. Sometimes, we take what we need from one place, and then need to wander a bit further to the next stop. That seems to be the case with you.

You have learned quite a bit through your experiences with this organization, and much of it has been quite beneficial to you. However, you are at that crossroads where you need to apply the knowledge you have received through their guidance and teachings, and decide if this particular path has taken you as far as you wish to go. Typically, when things start seeming a little weirder than uplifting, it’s time to start exploring a new avenue in another direction.

Brightest Blessings!
