For many people, the New Year is a catalyst of change. The problem is, we expect the changes to be instant – as if that magical date of one year ending and another beginning is enough to be the source, and cause, of manifestation. A fresh calendar page does mark a fresh beginning, but we all need to remind ourselves that while change is taking place, it may take a little patience to see the results.
Celestially speaking, things are lining up pretty beneficially for all of us to create a pretty kickin’ 2008, especially if we step back a bit from our self-imposed timelines and utilize the planetary influences to increase our chances for success.
A slow start
As the calendar turns to another year, the planetary forces are slowly shifting to bring in new energy to help us on our way. Ironically appropriate, New Year’s Day belongs to the Moon, as she glides out of Libra and into Scorpio – shifting the energy from party time into a quieter, more introspective, place. This will be a good day to rest up, because on January 2, 2008 Mars and Pluto are squabbling in opposition, bringing a little conflict as we face getting back into our routines of doing what we must – even though we may not want to.
Mercury will be leaving Capricorn and entering Aquarius in January 8. This shift will bring a little boost of energy as our minds start working in a broader spectrum – becoming a little less selfish and a little more selfless. This is a good time to start researching and making those contacts to implement the theories and plans you were developing when Mercury was in Capricorn.
Momentum
The first quarter Moon is shaping up in Aries on January 15, giving us the strength to confront our fears and create change. If you haven’t done so already, today is ideal to bite the bullet and start upholding those New Year’s resolutions! The Sun is leaving Capricorn to be embraced by Aquarius on January 20. We will feel a little more relaxed, a little less driven to always be doing something, and feeling a bit more connected and at peace with our private piece of the world. Many will be inclined to nurture the bonds with friends and loved ones, and allow old relationships that no longer serve you to slowly slip away.
Jupiter in Capricorn will trine Saturn in Virgo on January 21, showering us with positive energy that may lead us to believe we are invincible. This newfound energy brings clarity and excitement, and inspiration for us to expand and create in the areas of life that are most important to us. With the Moon turning full in Leo on January 22, not only will we know that we can have what we desire because we actually do deserve it, but we will begin to feel the electric tickle that change is in the air!
Embrace change
Venus conjuncts Pluto in Sagittarius on January 23, encouraging our minds to wander, allowing ourselves to dream. Keep things on the lighter side and don’t let your dreams turn into obsession or you will disrupt what could be a lovely time of inner peace. Random acts of kindness will not be uncommon on this day – you may even find yourself paying it forward!
On January 24, Venus finds her way into Capricorn, and yesterday’s daydreams turn toward more material attractions. The Capricorn Venus is going to bring out some deeper honesty, and a new appreciation for some old ways. Newer isn’t always better, and it’s one of those times when you may find yourself realizing that someone from your past (maybe even your parents) was right – hey, it happens!
January 25 heralds the day when Pluto enters Capricorn for the first time in 245 years. Even though it will only stay until June 13, this brief visit is likely to instigate monumental changes. The Pluto/Capricorn energy is highly focused on responsibility and laying groundwork for the future – personally, socially and universally.
Oh-oh….
Even though the month is winding down, January 28 marks the day when Mercury turns retrograde until February 18. You know the rules – dot your “I’s” and cross your “T’s” because you know it’s coming! On the lighter side, the Mars retrograde comes to its end on January 30 – bringing forward motion into play that just might help buffer the Mercury retrograde experience. While there is no such thing as a seamless Mercury retrograde, this one may be a bit calmer than those experienced in the past – especially if you are prepared. However, if you start catching havoc from the planet’s backward spin – try and grin your way through it. It’s a clearing, not a punishment – and the lessons you learn this time around you are less likely to have to repeat.

The New Year greets you with some significant changes – most of which are internal. You are likely to be reevaluating your personal values and shifting your priorities in order to achieve your goals. Money is going to flow, but you are likely to have a hard time holding on to it. The key is to plan ahead – you are heading for financial gains, but you need to pay the bills first!

Focus your energy on your personal life and improving your surroundings.
