A Taste For Adventure

No more excuses… summer is a perfect time for adventure, and it’s also a chance to get in touch with your true self (your spirit!). By scheduling a summer of exciting activity, you’ll not only take advantage of all that nature has to offer, but you may find you reconnect with your many sides, some of which you may have ignored.

With the suggestions below, all it takes is a little time, a little thought and maybe a little nerve and you’ll end this summer feeling renewed, refreshed and reinvigorated – from the inside out!

Something scary
Especially if you’ve been stuck in a rut (or playing it on the safe side), summer is the time to test your nerve! Let this summer be your excuse to try something you’ve always wanted to – or better, something you never thought you would! Go skydiving or rappelling, learn to scuba dive or take a back country camping trip. Talk a friend into sharing your adventure (they’re great for motivation, companionship and safety), and don’t look back. If you’re waiting for the right time, you’ll be waiting forever. Stop accumulating a list of future regrets, and make it happen now! It’s your chance to live in the moment – and reap its rewards!

Something near
Most of us mistakenly believe that in order to get excitement we’ve got to travel far away from home. Wrong! Some of the most overlooked adventures are in your own backyard, and there’s no better way to nourish your inner homebody than to find more ways to experience your home!

Give yourself permission to enjoy your regular surroundings. Spend an entire day hiking – or, if you prefer, a half day, or even a few hours. It’s just important that you set a goal and stick to it. Most communities offer sunrise yoga somewhere outdoors. Why not forgo a few hours of sleep for a breathtaking morning of deep breathing? If it’s possible, try to work your local adventure into your routine. Practice yoga (or volleyball or tennis or Tai Chi) once a week to give yourself a real chance to enjoy it, or plan a different activity for every other weekend. Again, the key is in the planning. Do some research, plan exactly what you’ll do and when you’ll do it, and mark your calendar for the entire summer.

Something far
More so than other times of the year (when weather may impede your travels), summer is a great time to broaden your scope. Getting a peek into another way of life will do a lot for your universal connectedness and empathy (which, as any psychic will tell you, is a great first step to enhancing your own psychic abilities)!

Pick a weekend, and take a friend on a road trip. If you can, choose somewhere neither of you has been before. Select some points of interest along your route – landmarks, theme parks, golf courses, it doesn’t matter – and drive into the sunset. Talk to the people you meet, learn from them. Don’t forget to be prepared with food, water, sunscreen, a first-aid kit and all the essentials. If you’re the spontaneous type (or you’ve always wanted to be), be bold! Get in the car and see where you end up. Just remember a map, a cell phone and a car charger. Part of the excitement of flying blind is getting home again!

Something social
Human connection is one of the most vital aspects of spiritual connection! Yet, so often we get caught up in the day to day workload that social activities fail to materialize (because we don’t make the time to arrange them)! This summer, make plans to gather with friends you haven’t seen in a while or, extend an invitation to some people you’d like to know better. Consider hosting an event and inviting them all. After all, your friends may not be as different as you think; they already have at least one thing in common – you. While you’re at it, host your shindig in the spirit of the season – turn that stuffy dinner party into a potluck picnic, and see what unfolds!

Something different
Enlisting your friends in your summertime self-exploration adventure is one great way to make sure you’ll go through with it! And this one is particularly useful if you and your friends can never agree.

Recruit a friend or two (family members work, too), and exchange adventures. First, establish a list of rules (no more than 24 hours, nothing involving heights, etc.). Then each of you agrees to develop a comprehensive plan for a joint adventure. When you’ve hammered out the details, share your plans with your fellow trailblazers and set a date for each person’s adventure. Everyone agrees to follow through in the beginning, so there is no backing out. For a little added suspense, hold off on revealing your plans until the last minute. An adventure exchange not only ensures that you have some company on your own journey, it motivates you to try something you may not have otherwise considered. And planning your round doesn’t have to be strenuous. Get a group of friends who may not be into Astrology over for a reading. Try cooking a meal you’ve never made. Just remember – the goal is to shed light on a new side of yourself!

Start with one adventure this summer, or challenge yourself to try one from each category. It doesn’t really matter which activities you choose, just don’t let this time get away from you. It’s so easy to get caught up in life – a plan for summer self-improvement is your promise to yourself to enjoy it.
