Top Turn Offs for Men

What Not to Do if You Want to Keep Him

There is one important thing I have learned in life about women. If you’re going to nitpick about the way they do things, you better have a damn good reason for it. Scanning several popular articles about the top turnoffs for men, I discovered that a lot of men dislike the same things when it comes to the women they date. They include: being clingy, unhygienic, messy, boring, non-sexual, nagging, emotional, too sweet-smelling, wearing too much makeup/glitter and having too many tattoos.

This is an interesting list, as it brings up traits that either gender would not be too crazy about (some that are fairly shallow too). The truth is, the woman of today is predominantly caring, confident, responsible, loving and responsive to her health and appearance. And the only real turnoff is a woman thinking her guy likes something, when in reality (sorry ladies) he doesn’t.

Here is our list of things you could be doing to turn off your guy:

You’re too Enthusiastic About Him

This is something that I have personally experienced in various relationships throughout my life. Women occasionally try too hard to make a relationship great. Now, you don’t want to swing too far in the other direction, and become difficult to please, but men like it when they have to work for your attention, and it will also increase your perceived value and mystery. If you feel like you have to work overtime to keep a man’s interest, that should be a red flag that he is probably not that into you.

You Worry too Much About Your Looks

Many magazine articles may have you believing that you need to be damn near perfect to turn a man on. But from my own personal research, too much perfection can actually make “Mr. Happy” rather droopy because it puts too much stress on a man’s ego. Yes, men like beautiful women, but they also worry about their own attractiveness. One of the sexiest things to a man is a women who finds him sexy.

You Obsess Over the Details of Your Relationship

It has been said a thousand different ways, but what it basically comes down to is learning to choose your battles carefully in your relationships. You care about your man, and you care about your relationship, but sometimes it really is better to let certain things go. So, your man falls asleep on the couch while you’re watching a movie, or wears pajama pants to the grocery store. These actions can be a little annoying, but they certainly aren’t relationship-enders. When you try to build the perfect relationship, you give your guy the idea that he is not good enough, and that there are a lot of things wrong. Then, instead of wanting to work to make things better, he’ll just wonder why you’re still around.

You Don’t Visit His “Help Department” First

Women want to do right by their man, and occasionally when he seems too busy, you may consider asking someone else for help. To be fair, this often happens when a guy has given you the huff after asking him to do you a favor while he was otherwise engaged. Well, take it from me, most men in a relationship want to be your knight in shiny armor (even if he grumbles a little whilst helping you).

You Give Him too Much Space

It is true that you don’t want to push a man, as it will only scare him further into his cave. I think this is why a lot of women have adopted the “leave him alone” rule, which is where they give him space, and if he decides he needs to talk, they’ll be there for him. Well, as research has shown, most men don’t come right out and ask for help, so if you’re waiting for that day, it may never come. Men like their space, but they also may need a little encouragement when it comes to sharing the things which make him feel like less of a man, such as his fears and health concerns.

You Want to Make Him a Better Man

Deep inside we all want to think our influence will make our partner a better person for having known us. When a women advises a man about his career and clothing, she wants to help him attain his dreams and goals. However, he may misinterpret your good intention as meaning he is not good enough the way he is. Whenever you think that your man is not reaching his full potential, just remember that he will be most inspired if he knows you believe in him (as he is).
