Secrets of Serial Monogamy

Hollywood glam girls Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Angelina Jolie are serial monogamists, meaning they’ve had a long-running series of committed relationships. Most intriguing, they have some things in common astrologically. For starters, they all have mutable Sun signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces), which can indicate some discomfort with “forever after.”

All of their Venuses are in water signs as well, indicating they bond deeply with their partners. Most important, the afflicted Neptune in their charts heightens their artistic gifts but can cloud their judgment when it comes to love. But that’s just the beginning. Let’s take a closer look at their charts to uncover the secrets of serial monogamy.

Cameron Diaz (August 30, 1972)
This charming, model-turned-actor has starred in such films as There’s Something About Mary (1998), Vanilla Sky (2001) and Gangs of New York (2002), all of which earned her Golden Globe nominations. In 2000 and 2003, she shared the spotlight with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Lui in two Charlie’s Angels films, which were co-produced by Barrymore. And she has something else in common with Barrymore – an afflicted Neptune. Diaz has a troublesome “mutable T-cross” involving her Sun and Mars in Virgo, Neptune in Sagittarius and Moon in either Taurus or Gemini (depending on her time of birth). This means she’s ultra sensitive, artistically talented and confused when it comes to men.

In romance, Sun and Mars in Virgo indicate she’s picky, but Neptune can make her disillusioned easily. She gets swept away by her vision of love, but this vision may have little to do with the person she’s involved with. Her relationships, which seem to dissolve around the three-year mark, have included actor Matt Dillon, actor/musician Jared Leto (with whom she was engaged) and more recently, Justin Timberlake, which ended in 2007. Drew Barrymore (February 22, 1975)
This imaginative Pisces was born into Hollywood royalty, which included her grandfather, the legendary John Barrymore. Although having Sun, Venus and Jupiter in Pisces makes her a natural actor – she made her first commercial at 11 months and starred in E.T. The Extraterrestrial at age seven – a troubled childhood that included drug and alcohol abuse before she reached her teens illustrates the greatest challenge for this sensitive sign: the desire to escape. This is doubly true for Barrymore because Neptune, which rules Pisces, afflicts her Sun. Fortunately, two stints in rehab finally sobered her up.

This brings us to her love life. Her Neptunian nature is ultra-romantic but illusive, so she resists being confined by long-term commitments. Her relationships include a broken engagement to musician/actor Jamie Waters in the early ’90s and two very short marriages: a one-month union to Welsh bar owner Jeremy Thomas and a one-year union to comedian Tom Green. Angelina Jolie (June 4, 1975)
With changeable Gemini as her Sun sign, Jolie is versatile and communicative. She’s as known for her humanitarian work as for her films. Like Diaz and Barrymore, she has a Sun-Neptune affliction, which tweaks her relationships but makes her a superb actor. Jolie earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Girl, Interrupted (1999). More recently she starred in Changeling (2007), which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

But what about love? Gemini can be fickle, to say the least, especially when influenced by Neptune. Jolie has been married twice – to actor Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. Both marriages lasted three years, which suggests a similarity to Diaz. And then there’s her relationship with Brad Pitt, which became public in early 2006. You do the math. Three years and running. Will it last? Actually, Jolie’s Venus and Saturn in Cancer indicate her role as a mother is as important – or perhaps more important – than her tie with a mate. Because Pitt shares in the raising of their six kids, he’s a natural partner for her. For Jolie, the strong Cancer influences, especially Saturn, gives her the ability to sustain a long-term bond with someone who shares her joy in raising a family.
