Are You Finding Love on the Internet via Social Media?

Can you find love or even lost loves on the internet? People are finding love on the internet more and more every day through online social media.

Retrosex: Finding Lost Love via the Web

Some claim you can’t find lost love. Not true! People are doing it more and more every day through online social media. I’m getting more and more clients calling me about reconnecting with someone they knew years (even decades) ago.

Have you recently found your high school sweetheart online? Have you reconnected with a love from 20 years ago via a photo-based social network? Thinking of rekindling a relationship lost years ago over a fantastic summer? You’re not alone. And, the odds are in your favor. Many are doing it right online via photo sharing websites. You know which ones they are.

It’s become such a common phenomenon that it’s been termed “retrosex.” With the bursting through of online social and photo sharing sites, finding profiles and pages of lost loves from decades ago is surging at record rates. Some of the sites are as popular with 40- and 50-somethings as they are with the younger crowds. Will you find your love on the internet? Contact a psychic today to find out!

Not only is it easier to find lost loves, new types of friendships are springing up from reconnecting as well. Social media has made it much easier to find lost friends and suddenly, new types of friendships are also happening.

It’s a misconception that once love is lost it is gone forever. Some statistics claim one fifth of all new couples meet through the Internet. Surprisingly, the statistics of divorce are lower for these couples.

Some have found it is like opening a time capsule. Whether it leads to a rekindled romance or new friendship, there is an exciting element of rediscovery of fond memories from the past at play. And, many times we surprisingly and quite easily stumble onto someone we knew.

Here’s a familiar scenario I hear a lot about: A coworker showed you how the online search function works. It is usually a feature that allows users to search for the names of people they know. You enter the name of the first boy you kissed. There he is! You send him a message. Then you wait. Will he respond? Will he accept your friend request? Is it weird to contact an old summer camp boyfriend? Suddenly, he responds!

Most people don’t even know what inspires them to do something like this. They knew each other years ago. Their relationship felt like more than a one-night stand but it was definitely less than a real relationship. There was a history, a rapport. It was more than just hooking up.

Looking for final answers and some closure is also driving the desire to reconnect. Fear of the unknown is all that keeps many from doing it.

It can be great fun to reconnect. With some interaction, you can get some really great answers, and maybe even closure. And when it is done online behind a screen and keyboard, it can feel safe in a weird way. Relax and have fun. Most retrosexual experiences seem to spring from an intense, almost uncontrollable mixture of nostalgia and interest. You get a thrill out of finding an old girlfriend just to see if she still likes you. You’re curious to see what she looks like, and it’s easy to fantasize about alternative courses your life might have taken. It’s the same type of feeling that compels people to attend high school reunions. In a way, these reconnections are the same thing.

A new age of connection is upon us and made easy online. Who are you looking for?

I replied and commented on this article 12/09/2012. Today is 06/01/2013, My thoughts are the same, HOWEVER, I have changed jobs recently and by pure chance I delivered some groceries to my first wife from 27 years ago! yes she has popped up in my mind from time to time! ( I do not like bad feelings or hurt” ) and I wondered if I would bump into her again, FATE replying! To bury ill feelings, from past or bad memories, and there she was, waiting for me, we kissed and hugged and briefly caught up with our lives, a secret wish answered? and we moved on, I am so glad, for me it was a tick on my karma/fate list and a way for me to progress on my spiritual path. The secret I feel is to have no expectations, and let people live there lives, find the positives .

I don’t agree. Unless both parties are single it is playing with fire. A couple can be happy with each other until someone from the past targets one of them with an internet search. It not only raises “what if’s” with the object of the old flame’s desire, It creates doubts, suspicion and insecurity with the present partner on the outside of the cyber exchange.

Think about it– would you want your significant other being seduced by an old flame on Facebook? Would you really want that kind of attention yourself and just create confusion for you and jealousy on the part of your partner. I think Retrosex is a new threat to existing relationships for couples of all ages.

    Interesting article….

I agree with Marc from UK and Courtney on this …it’s a bit like opening pandora’s box.

Since December of 2011 I have been in contact with my first love and the love of my life. We have since found closure from our past and started a new relationship that is more maturer and stronger than before. We needed to deal with our past before we could move on. We both have had bad relationships and marriages that have ended in divorces. Being reconnected with one another has rekindle old feelings and new adventures. We have been dating and seeing each other exclusively. Sometimes retrosex can turn out to be the best thing for some people. In our case we have worked it out and are doing great!!!

I am human and like everyone else I am sure we all often wonder about the god ol days and he past. HOWEVER our imagination can play tricks on us it would be wise to remember that you could gain as much pain as happiness from connecting with a past lover or friend. My advice would be to approach with caution and do not forsake all others in your quest for adventures new!
