Happy Summer Solstice!

Today is the Summer Solstice, the First Day of Summer and the longest day of the year – when the Earth’s axial tilt is most inclined to the sun, and which therefore means we get the most daylight. This is an important day in religions around the world.

The Druids celebrated the Solstice as Alban Herun or “Light of the Shore”; it was celebrated under different names by pagan cultures throughout Europe. Under Christianity, Europe celebrated the Solstice as the Feast of St. John the Baptist. Neopagan groups regularly celebrate the Solstice, holding a “sabbat” in its honor called Midsummer or “Litha.”

Almost every world culture celebrates the Solstice in some way or another, honoring the sun at its high point. What are you doing to celebrate today?

    Hi,
    As a Hereditary Wiccan…….

I decorate my alter with a golden yellow alter cloth , and always an abundance of fresh sun flowers,
a red ( Sun God ) candle, a green ( Earth Goddess ) candle…..and burn blessed summer scented incense such as jasmine, rose, lotus, or wisteria…or a combination of.

    Blessed Be )O(
