Totem Therapy and Reincarnation

I set up a temporary partnership with a close friend and we were in the initial stages of choreographing a two day seminar. She wanted to contribute an exercise that she referred to as “Totem Therapy.” I did not have a clue what she was talking about. She tried to explain it to me but eventually said, “Why don’t you drive up and let me show you?” So a few days later I made the trip.

She had me lie down on her couch and proceeded with hypnosis. Her intention was to pass me through the Chakras, beginning with the Root, identifying each of the Totem animals. We never got past the Root Chakra. I immediately went into a past life memory, and it all began with my identification of the animal connected with my Root – a Mandrill Baboon. Here is what I experienced. The time period was the 1700s. I was a Bushman boy, somewhere in South Africa. I was 12 years old. The day was one of challenge and celebration.

I was sent out at dawn, this was a “coming of age” ritual. All I carried with me was a bow and arrow. The object was to return by sunset with game, specifically a baboon. Then the celebration would begin. The entire village would honor me and my family, as I joined the ranks of adult males, providers. I recall leaving my village that morning with determination and pride. The entire village was already preparing the celebration, and it was for me, only me.

My next impression was looking into the eyes of a baboon. The bow was up, the arrow pulled back. I had a clear shot. Yet there was something in the eyes. I did not want to kill him. For some reason, I could not kill. I spared him. I spent the entire day walking aimlessly, stunned with my own behavior – halfheartedly searching out another target.

At sunset I returned to my village. Everyone that saw me literally turned their back to me. Even my own family showed me their backs. I now had no place, no role in the community. I was invisible. I remained with my people for one or two days but nothing changed. Finally, in despair, I left. The only other impression I received was that I lived as a scavenger outcast for the next two years and was eventually killed and eaten by a lion. At this point my friend said, “Ok, now we will move on to the next Chakra.” I immediately told her to take me out of the trance. I told her I was done. She complied and asked me, “Well, what do you think?” I said, “I don’t know what to think.” I sat down at her kitchen table and she poured me a cup of coffee. She said that she would be right back and went to the bathroom.

When she returned I was sobbing uncontrollably. I never really explored the rest of my Totem. I do connect with the wolf, in fact my last name translates directly to”Son of Wolf,” I have been told that the bear is in me also. I just know that the baboon energy is strong in me. In some way even defines me. There are no judgments. It just is. Needless to say, I have a very healthy respect for the Totem. It is a very deep and ancient wisdom.

I had a chance to read for a psychic company for a reading job. I had a male I read for that was expecting his business to take hold right away. I told him there were conflicts w/his partners that needed to be taken care of before his venture could move on. It would be another 2 months. I don’t think he believed me and also the fact it was my first test reading I was a little nervous..well I wonder since I didn’t get the job if he rated me poorly. I also wonder if my prediction ever came true..both questions I would never know! All I felt is he was very skeptable!

    Hi Max,
Many men ( especially), have trouble believing in psychics. LOL
Interesting trivia….over the years I’ve read for many very powerful business men, CEO’s and what have you. Many of them started out somewhat skeptical in getting a reading.
However…Many of these SAME powerful business icons will boast of their OWN psychic abilities when closing a major deal.
    LOL.

    Hello,
Congratulations, Skeptic. I am delighted to hear that you were exposed to one my fabulous colleagues who was able to show you how we really work! Crystal balls-I don’t think so…..
I often, as probably most of us do, have clients ask how we work-how does information come to us-and I’m delighted to explain it, every time.
Glad you had an opportunity to experience a real reading and thanks for writing an article about it.

OMG!! You drove a teacher nuts, TOO??? When I was in 4th grade, our teacher Ms. Parascandola left in the early part of the year (moved away) and was replaced by this nut named Miss Roboth, but everybody called her Miss “Robot” and she hated it. We literally DID drive her crazy, and she left mid-year. We thought we were on easy street until her replacement came along…a secret member of the SS named Mrs. Caufield. She was a strict disciplinarian, probably because of all the horror stories she had heard about our class.
I was chewing gum at one point and thought I had it hidden well enough on the roof of my mouth. She called me on it. She didn’t buy it, though, when I played dumb. She actually made me place that gum on the tip of my nose. I was mortified! After about 5 minutes or so, I discretely flicked it off. She noticed and asked where it was. With the most innocent expression on my face, I looked at her like she was crazy and said that it was still on my nose…DUH!! She gave me a dirty look, but she let me slide that time.
God, I remember spit balls…the boys were always shooting them at us with their straws.
You poor kid…not only did you “get it” from the teacher, but then from your dad as well. That’s how it was back then…we couldn’t get away with anything.

    Hi Phillip,
    Yeah,it was the same at
our ” segregated ” Catholic , all girl, high school…..the all boy high school was right across the street from the all girls high school. AND we ALL rode the bus together to and from school….so much for segregation boys from girls !!!!!
PS…I was really good at the spitball thing too…. for accuracy AND distance.

Fran, when I was in 6th grade, I had a lay teacher, her name was Mrs. Ball(lol). I barely passed that year because I was always in so much trouble. She was gone for about a month and we had a sub. the rumor was going around that we drove her nuts and she was in the hospital. None of us were surprised. We had assigned seats and every lunch time we would rearrange our desks to be someplace else. I remember one day everyone in the class came in wearing sunglasses. We wore them all day, the entire class. she actually told me at the end of the school year that the only reason she passed me was to get me out of her life. I was an awful Aries boy. I admit it. The last time I actually got spanked was when I was 11 and it was for throwing spit balls (not wads) on the classroom ceiling and the principle dragged my older sister in tears to holler at me and when I got home my dad nailed me good.

Lol I forgot the doilys. I think the nuns were getting tired of buying them and they punished the girls by making them wear napkins. We used to laugh at them. I was an alter boy and had to learn Latin. I can still remember when the priest came into our class to discuss sex. they pulled the girls out and did the same to them. They were about a year too late and I did have the presence of mind to recall that most of what he told us didn’t make any sense , lol.

    Phillip,
Another great article from you-thanks for it. I’ve been fortunate enough to spend a significant amount of time in the southwesten U.S. in past years and be invited to several Pueblo ceremonies where the Totem regression and identification of Totem was practiced. Very powerful and illuminating.
I wonder if they still manufacture that style of Hush Puppies?

    Dear Gina Rose,
Thank you so much for the information on the Sign of Raven. I think the butterfly might be one of my totems. Whenever I ask for a sign in regard to a question or a situation, a butterfly will always flutter past me, usually when I’m driving. It will flutter directly towards or across my windshield. AND…they almost ALWAYS come in three’s!!!
If you have the time, would you be able to tell me a little about the sun sign of Bear? Thanks!!

Those nuns could be downright mean! In second grade, Sister Assunta was my teacher, and she was older than Methuzela (sp?). I’ll never forget…she called me up to the front of the class, took me over her knee and spanked me (!!) all because I was talking with another little girl. And I was one of the GOOD kids!!!
    Ah…the joys of Catholic school…

Those nuns were downright tough cookies !!!!!!! I swear they had eyes in back of their heads….
But you know, they were very good teachers.
I remember, back in third grade, kneeling with arms outstretched, with a big dictionary in each hand, facing the blackboard for talking in class….
You actually got slapped!….he he he…

I must have looked up preparing my lie, and she dug her claws into my upper arm in a vise grip and slapped my face twice before I even knew what was going on. I think that was kung fu Gina , lol

    Hi Fran,
I can relate to the Catholic schools…I was raised by a famous psychic and a Wiccan Elder…as you know…
…but was ” forced ” to attend Catholic grade and ” college prep “, ALL GIRL, Catholic high school…IHM,or Immaculate Heart of Mary outside of Chicago.
( That was a rough ” gig “….those girls came from upper class homes and some, but not all, were spoiled rotten).
My Aunt and GrandMother wanted me to have a good education and I am grateful for that…..but myself, and a few others, didn’t fit in the wealthy social upper class of the other girls.
Since I was a bit of a tomboy, and was ” into ” the martial arts back then……….they left me alone. ..he he….I hung out with the older kids anyway.
Those nuns were tough….or at least they used to be back in my day in school.
And I don’t miss the uniforms, ( especially the ties), and ugly hush puppy shoes.

    Hi Fran,
Ravens are very smart birds and,***** are ranked in the top ten animals of the world for intelligence.*******
They also have a playful sense of humore…..and are known to take covet shiny objects, watches, rings, jewelry…etc.
Ravens are native to Alaska and more upper parts of Canada…..they are NOT native to mainland USA…..and are often confused with crows. ( Although Ravens are much larger in size than crows)
Fran…..I would say the Raven does fit you…..

I believe wholeheartedly that all of the trials and tribulations we go through in our youth just make us stronger, smarter adults, with a true sense of our own self-worth. I went to Catholic high school, and while I had so many friends in my early school days, high school was not fun. It was an all-girl school, and they could be so self-centered and hurtful. I lost a lot of my self-esteem during those years, and it took years to gain it back. Thankfully, I’m at a point in my life where I really don’t care what people think about me. If they like me, that’s great. If they don’t, oh well…
The friends that I have I treasure. I don’t let too many people “in” because I’ve been burned so many times, and I’d rather not deal with all the drama. It’s funny, but my closest friends don’t live anywhere nearby…they’re all on the East Coast.
I sometimes wonder if this is something that I’ve brought with me from a previous lifetime. It would be fascinating to find out.

Nice article Phillip my animal totems are Cougar, Beaver, Otter. Past life exploration and how we are and the paths we walk are always amazingly similar to what we walk again if we are unaware. I think I need to do some more of this to release some stuff. I’m an old soul lots of stuff there. Maybe I’d feel lighter!

By the way, My daughter is a Scorpio. She is a natural herbalist. She has a very strong affinity for working with the soil(Taurus rising). She is very conscious of how diet affects us. I teach her astrology and she teaches me herbs. Her input to me helped me to help an old girlfriend who had Crohn’s disease. We were able to put it into instant remission by diet alone. It is a wonderful gift she has. It is a wonderful gift that you share with her.

I have heard really good things about you Jacqueline from my clients. What I am hearing shows through in your picture. I also have a special connection to the dragonfly. An individual told me last week of a dream she had where a dragonfly was nibbling on her index finger and everytime she shook it off, it would come back. What is really interesting is that the dragonfly at least in part represents spiritual light because of the way their wings reflect light, and her chart revealed a very high spiritual vibration level but was being short-circuited by worry. It appeared the dragonfly was representing the light that was trying to overpower her worry. She got the message too. Blessings back at ya.

I love you article Phillip, very well put, you are a better writer than I….
I have had the opportunity to have a regression done, one may call them a totem journey, it is a great process to get to know what your totems are and connect more on a personal level, the more you connect with them the more they will and want to help you on your life path.
Native Americans believe that totems are a great tool in helping and assisting, they are some of your guides, you can also ask for certain guidance as well, they carry great power and protection for you.
Right now I have the privilege of working with a Eagle as well as a Buffalo, I’m in much gratitude to them and love them….

Hi sweety. Hi Fran and Miss Krystal. There is a piece that I did not share. It connects to that past life.
I was 12 or 13 years old. The girls in my class were planning a dance in someone’s basement. We were all attending a Catholic elementary school, and most of the parents would NOT have approved of an unchaperoned gathering such as this. We all planned a cover story and the event took place. During the evening a friend of mine pulled out a firecracker and handed it to me. He pulled out some matches, lit it, and I threw it. What we didn’t realize was that one of the girls in the room was partially deaf, and the concussion nearly knocked her out. I carried the full blame for this. I never implicated the friend who brought the firecracker. Further, my parents smelled something fishy, and my mother was burning up the phone lines trying to get to the bottom of what was going on. She was a Virgo and she didn’t miss much. Eventually she found out exactly what we were up to and we all got in trouble. I was blamed for that too. Over night my status with my peer group was turned from popular to a “pariah”. I carried that stain through my high school years and I was deeply affected.

Great article, Phillip……again and again you prove your ability to write and express very real human emotions…..totem energy can be very strong.
I love the way that you really put YOURSELF into these articles…..very real and moving.
I had an experience when I was in my late 20’s, that involved several animal spirits, during a sweat lodge ceremony many years ago that stayed with me to this day…..
The same Shaman ( Sioux Nation ) that invited me to their sweat lodge ceremony had done clearing/cleansing session on my three days prior to the sweat lodge….
The cleansing session was very moving as the Shaman( Sioux Nation)…started chanting and calling to the spirits and started pulling
” knives and daggers ” out of my back and heart….the Shaman was explaining who put them there and why as they were being pulled out.
I also have Alligator totem energy I was told, by a Cajun Shaman, another old friend of mine named ” Swampy “, from the bayou country outside of New Orleans….but the Grizzly Bear is very strong, as is the Raven and the Horse.

Another thing….I have been professionally regressed several times. In all of those times, I found that I was a submissive soul…I know that I came into this life to settle things….I was lucky now to live as a woman, in a modern time of change, where we, as women, here in America, can finally have the chance to strive for equality.
We may not always find it, but sometimes we will.
…But what we can learn from soul travel, regression, remote viewings, possible reincarnation of some sort, can help us understand life, better, and that is good thing!!
