Start the Easy Planning That Will Stop Your Worrying

One Step at a Time!

1. Worried About Romance? Actively Seek a Healthy Relationship.

Be proactive about being in a positive relationship. If you are unhappy with your partner, speak up so you can either resolve your disagreements or break up. If you are single, then stop worrying about being alone forever and put yourself out there: register for dating websites, go on blind dates, and attend plenty of social situations to meet new people. If you are worrying about your relationship or lack thereof, replace that worry time by actively pursuing the dream relationship you desire.

2. Worried About Your Job? Have a Career Backup Plan.

It is always best to have multiple sources of income: a full time job, side job, rental property income, book royalties, stocks and dividends, a savings account and/or CD interest, trust fund, inheritance, etc. This way, if you lose your job, you will still have other sources of income to get you by for a bit. In addition, education is also a helpful security net: try to get as many degrees, credentials and certificates as possible to spread your work opportunities wider. Some special skills and qualities that most employers especially value are: bilingualism, grant-writing experience, willingness to work extra hours and/or relocate, and strong communication and presentation skills. If you are worried about losing your job, then definitely start looking for ways to make yourself more marketable as well as sources of additional income. Scared about starting a new career or just finding a career that works for you? 3. Worried About Money? Make a Financial Plan You Revisit Monthly.

List all your bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and bills. Detail the account numbers, due dates, and balances. Each month, note when and how much money you pay toward each account. Below this list of immediate money matters, make a priority list of your money goals: for example, saving for a wedding, paying off student loans, or buying a new car… At the top of your list should be building an “Emergency Fund” with eight months worth of living expenses. Getting organized about where you want your money to go will put your mind at financial ease. Just make sure you stick with your plan to control the money flow.

4. Worried About Retirement? Open a Retirement Account.

If your employer has a 401(K) plan, opt in and contribute regularly no matter how small of an amount you can afford. If your company does not offer a 401(K), open up your own 403(B) or Roth IRA. The earlier you start, the more money you will retire with due to compounding interest. Do not wait any longer! Put your mind at ease by knowing that you will have a substantial retirement account waiting for you at 65. If you are unsure how to start this process, then find yourself a trustworthy financial manager to help you get started.

5. Worried About Inheritance? Create a Will and a Trust.

Everyone should have an official will and trust. Also, make sure you have designated beneficiaries on all of your accounts and properties. To make sure you do all of this correctly, I recommend reading Suze Orman’s literature on the subject. Once you have all your ducks in a row, make sure your close family members have done the same, especially if you will be affected by their passing. Having all your financial records and goals documented and notarized will lead to less worrying now and less quarrelling later.

6. Worried About Your Body? Get Over it or Do Something About it.

This is the one and only body you will ever have, so you have two choices: accept it “as is,” or change it. To change it, you can exercise, buy flattering clothes, wear makeup, get plastic surgery, get LASIK, change your hair color or length, wax your body, and so many more things to make you look your best. Keep in mind: authentic confidence and radiating positivity will always make you look amazing!

7. Worried About Your Health? See a Doctor and Do Your Own Research.

After taking your doctor’s advice full-heartedly, you should also do your own research with a more Eastern-medicine approach. Often times, doctors prescribe medicine or surgery to cure our ills and ailments, but there are plenty of non-invasive healthier ways of curing our diseases. Comb the Internet and read books about the foods, vitamins, teas, exercises, and habits that can make you healthier, less toxic, and perhaps even disease-free. Finding a balance between Eastern and Western medicine is key to less worrying about one’s health and wellness.

8. Worried About Your Children? Give Them Advice, Then Let Go.

You cannot control your kids and have a healthy relationship with them. Give them your best advice and let them decide what to do with it. Stop worrying because that implies you do not trust them to make the right decisions. Be the best parent you can be and know when to step back and watch your children thrive. In J. D. Salinger’s classic book The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield has an epiphany while watching Phoebe reach for the golden ring on the merry-go-round: he realizes that he wants to go over and be ready to catch her in case she falls, but then he stands back and watches because he knows she can take care of herself, and she needs to learn from her “falls.” Thus, parents must allow their children to fall and learn from mistakes because someone will not always be around to catch them. Feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders? I am just commenting to make you understand what a fabulous encounter my wife’s princess experienced going through your blog. She learned some things, including what it is like to possess a great helping heart to let the others easily gain knowledge of specified tortuous matters. You really did more than readers’ expectations. Thanks for providing such powerful, dependable, educational as well as unique thoughts on that topic to Janet.

Yes, unhappy marriage. But my partner has become an Alzeheimer patient. I feel I should not abondon a person who is ill even tho I love another and have not been happy in this marriage for some time. I feel stuck by circumstances and do not have the money to place him in a care facility. Your opinion would be welcome.
