A Perfect Career

Carey from Flint, Michigan asks:

I recently changed careers. I felt that my first position was a perfect fit, but did not work out. I was told that this was not because of my skills, but because I wasn’t “engaged” with the team. I wasn’t sure what this meant, and couldn’t get a clear answer from them. I have since changed employers, and enjoy what I do. Is this another growth experience for me, or a fulfilling, long lasting career?

Dear Carey,

First, regarding the statement that your past employer made that you were not “engaged” with the team – I’ve been there and done that in my life, also! Have you ever felt just not “in sync” with another person? It doesn’t make any difference how much you tried – you just weren’t on the same “wavelength.” I believe that this is what your past employer felt, and didn’t know how to explain. In other words, you were a square peg in a round hole – not your fault, although it is a very painful situation to be in.

Of course, all situations are sometimes (painful) growth situations. But to answer your question, I do feel that you will be successful in your career. Enjoy yourself!

God Bless You,

Growth was the lesson. If we all took life as a lesson, we’d be smarter and happier. So many people are disgruntled all too often, and just bitter instead of moving on and becoming empowered by the unknown.

    Hi, Carey,

I agree with Tansy. Please, please, don’t feel badly about being the “square peg” in a round hole-not at all. It happens to all of us at one time or another. I do believe it happened to you in that employment situation so you could move on the the employment situation you are in now—on your way to building a very successful career.

    Sincerely,

    Maryanne
