The Power of Tarot

Summer is the time for journeys, both inner and outer. This deck takes us on a quick tour of the world of art and culture to find the nuggets of peace and healing that exist within us.

Mary Livingstone, an art gallery tour guide and visual arts teacher, designed this beautiful deck for herself in response to her husband’s diagnosis of critical illness. She believes that by going deep within ourselves we can find the answers we are seeking. For her, Tarot was a key tool in accomplishing this. That is why she wanted to share her Art of Life Tarot with the world.

It draws on wisdom and perspective from the great philosophers, and uses classic art from priceless collections for the cards’ imagery. These images are hopeful and empowering in every way.

No masks, distancing, or sanitizer required. We have entered the safe zone here! Let’s stroll through the art galleries of the world together this week to glean the wisdom from the Art of Life Tarot.

July 26 – Sunday

The Sun

“Precisely the least, the softest, the lightest…a little makes the way of the best happiness.” -Nietzsche

Is the biggest happiness contained within the littlest of things? Apparently Nietzsche thought so, as proven in the quote above. Joy and clarity will be hidden in something “everyday” for you today.

A relationship contains more warmth than you have realized. A surge of energy and vitality will be supporting your activities, whatever they are. You will clearly see that heaven has a better plan for you and that is the cause of delay. A benevolent energy is coming to visit you. Creativity flourishes.

July 27 – Monday

The Devil

“A man should never be ashamed to own that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying… that he is wiser today than yesterday.” -Swift

Does evil exist? It seems it does, but it is the emotional and spiritual bondage that comes from our selfishness and ego. It is the unskilled handling of something that is essentially good.

Chains can be broken by honestly accepting that we’ve been in the wrong. By doing so, they will be overcome. Clear-sighted recognition of our own, or another’s, limitations will start in motion the process of freedom today.

July 28 – Tuesday

Death

“Death twitches in my ear, ‘Live, I am coming.’” -Virgil

A cycle ends for you today. This does not refer to physical death, but an end to something that requires a drastic change of structure. It will be liberating, and the best parts of what you let go of will still remain. Accept change so that rebirth can take place. A new life is beginning for you!

July 29 – Wednesday

Knight of Wands

“The real voyage of discovery is not in finding new landscapes but in having new eyes.” -Proust

Don’t stress about this journey, because it is safe and free of charge. Discover with new eyes the fact that your world is made by your attitude.

A friend of mine commented that “everything is interesting, if you think about it.” I didn’t really think it was true when she said it, but seasoned teacher that she was, she discovered this truth long before she voiced it. Curiosity leads you on new voyages today. Don’t be afraid to think something new, eat something new, or learn something new! Adventure awaits you today.

July 30 – Thursday

Queen of Wands

“The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches, but to reveal to him, his own.” -Disraeli

A person in your environment wants to mentor you. The card says to trust them in the process because it will bring in a lot of good for you.

Sunshine and goodwill is headed your direction. The Queen of Wands indicates a person of a fiery, but gracious, nature. She may be a strong believer in causes that benefit people who are suffering. Maybe, she is you!

Don’t overlook messengers from the other side because they are sometimes the most effective allies today. Accept their help now and someday you will have the opportunity to pass it on.

July 31 – Friday

Ten of Cups

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy. They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” -Proust

An important relationship is headed for fruition and happiness. It may be a wedding or other commitment that is on the horizon now. A rainbow will appear after a difficult time that has lasted for a while.

You will be celebrating with this person, and others may be involved in the celebration. The squabbles are over and harmony reigns.

August 1 – Saturday

Knight of Pentacles

“The secret of success is constancy of purpose.” -Disraeli

Steadiness and deliberation may be undervalued by some. But these are the qualities that will bring you success today. A love relationship that is not super exciting will, nevertheless, deliver more than it promises!

Patiently give someone a chance that you consider to be “not your type.” They could turn out to be the soulmate that you have been longing for.

In your career, persistence and hard work will pay-off now. It is a time of quiet and non-flamboyant rewards in both love and work.

A Fun Spread to Try: The Dream Frame Spread

This is a four-card spread which probes your subconscious mind in order to interpret a dream that feels important.

Shuffle the cards thoroughly, while concentrating on a recent, vivid dream that you would like to explore. When you are ready, pull four cards randomly from the deck and arrange them in the grid below.

Card One- What is your position in the dream, physically and emotionally?

Card Two- What is the dream’s basic nature? Scary? Hopeful? Funny? Weird and incomprehensible?

Card Three- What can you learn from the dream?

Card Four- What action does the dream want you to take?

If you have the time you can use this spread on multiple dreams that feel like they contain an important message from your deepest self. It helps if you have a dream journal to record important images and sequences that take place.
