Half of Americans Believe Their Pets are Psychic

A recent poll revealed that almost half (43%) of Americans who own pets believe that their pets are psychic, especially for danger. This comes as no surprise – folklore has long credited animals with having an almost-supernatural ability to predict danger or interact with the hidden levels of reality.

The Village Voice reports:

According to a recent AP- Petside.com poll, 43% of American pet owners believe their pets have a sixth sense that is particularly in tune during times of trouble…

In addition to the original statistic (43% of American pet owners believe their pet to be psychic, especially when their owner might be in trouble), 64% of those polled believe their pets to hide in a safe place when foretelling an impending danger (i.e. earthquakes, fires, seizures – yes, seizures – etc.). 56% reported their pets cried, 52% stated their pets became hyperactive, and 36% found that their pets barked or meowed persistently — all, of course, warnings to the owner that doom was to follow.

What do you think – are your pets psychic? Have you witnessed psychic phenomena around or involving animals?

Animals have the ability to be psychic, just like people. I personally believe that we all have some psychic ability, we just have it in varying degrees.
Now, with that being said, I’m going to also become the voice of the mundane and say that some of what we might attribute to psychic ability might just be our pets using their regular senses. Fires and floods produce smells and we know that some animals have incredible noses. I’ve personally been in a flood that was predicted by a dog. I couldn’t smell the flood water until it was in my house, but the dog may have been able to smell it while it was still several blocks away.

Likewise, I believe that changes in an owners health also produce smells that humans may not be able to detect, but some animals can.

Regardless of whether our pets are super natural, or just using their natural senses, we should pay attention to what they have to tell us.

    Hi Krishna,
I totally believe that animals have a sixth sense, they dont have all of the inhabitions that us humans do that tend to keep us tied down, I have seen where animals of all kinds do travel in between both worlds.

    Blessings and Big Hugs!

    Hi,
I sit on the board of a no-kill animal shelter, and it’s a combination of the natural instincts that animals have, an ever evolving IQ of animals, and then psychic ability.

I’ve trained animals for obediance and have shown animals in the show ring…..trainers chew gum in the ring so the animal cannot smell their nervousness. Animals can literally smell emotions, any trainer will tell you that.

As far as rooting out things like cancer cells and alerting somebody that they are about to have a diabetic attack…..again animals smell the chemical changes in a human’s body and react accordingly. Most of the dogs are trained to react and respond to certain smells and are then paired with that person, much the same as seeing eye dogs are trained and paired with a person. But some, not trained, are just alerted by the sudden change of their owners body chemistry and react.

Animals are smart …..yes , smart….the average IQ of a dog is comparable to that of a 7 year old human child. My last dog knew over 150 words and countless phrases.

But….animals have shown undeniable pure psychic ability, above and beyond their regular functioning instictual abilities.
For example, the animal grieving the loss of another beloved animal companion, that responds as if that animal were right there in front of them.
Or the animal, crossed over, that comes back in spirit to comfort their grieving owner.
Animals seem to be able to sense spirits in a house too. Yes…..animals are as capable of demonstrating psychic ability as people.

Bottom line is : I believe that what motivates an animal to show extraordinary abilities, whether you may think they are instinctual, based upon IQ, or psychic ability, or all of those in combination……is their love for their owner .
Because animals DO have emotions and have shown, countless times, great love and concern for their owners.

Your animal is, hands down, your best friend. They will love you unconditionally , if only you love them back and care for their basic needs.
A kind word, decent food and shelter and medical care ( shots and vaccinations), and a playful session here and there, is all it takes to earn that unconditional love from your pet.
( If only humans were that easy to please huh ??? )
So take care of your best friend and they will take care of you.

    Blessed Be )O(
