My Awakening

Years ago I caught the tail end of a movie, not a high budget Hollywood production. A man was seated in a coffee shop, he looked a bit like an aging Orson Welles. He was addressing the audience, me. What he said was so profound and I never forgot it. He said, “Think about the last time you were on a beach, and over the water, on the horizon, a full moon began to inch its way up. How many times in your life will you ever witness a sight such as this? If you are lucky, maybe 3 or 4 times. Yet how many of us would actually stop what we are doing to enjoy this singular spectacle?”

Every day we miss opportunities to actually slow down and cherish our lives. We do it to ourselves.  Happiness is not something that just ‘happens.’ It is a choice. Anais Nin once wrote that the only way to measure one’s power in life is to explore the joy with which you live that life, from moment to moment.  The past and the future are only figments of the mind, pseudo time, not real.  All that truly exists is the “eternal now.” This is the only space that our power is absolute. Yet, we all get so bogged down in trivial issues and matters of temporary consequence that we miss those precious moments, many of which will never be repeated, missed.

When we slow down the mind and permit our worries to dissolve, we are expressing faith, in ourselves and in the universe that all is well. We give ourselves permission to just relax. Beyond that point, there be miracles!

In a kidnapping case the first thing that the rtelaives of the missing person should do is to hire a private investigator. maybe you don’t know but in such a case the first 48 hours are essential and usually the police must fill the paperwork before they start investigating .that’s why you need a person to handle your case 34 hours a day. I know a friend that hired a for a similar case and in these 48 hours he was able to locate the missing person. and I know many other cases when a private investigator id a better job than the police.

    Phillip,
Thank you for your excellent article.
Thirteen years ago, I moved across the street from what is voted every year as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. As the result of a perceived romantic disappointment, I determined to be the silent, solitary, bereaved beach walker, talking to no one and noticing none of the beauty. At a relatively young age, I decided I would spend the rest of my life that way. One night, my elderly neighbors knocked on my door and said, “Hurry, you’re going to miss it-the time changes slightly every day!” Of course, they were referring to sunset. Every night since that night, I have walked the beach at sunset, enjoying the sunset, sometimes the moon rise, the sound of the waves, the tropical turquise of the water, and the beautiful white crystal sand. Also, every night I have been both inspired and grateful that I have the opportunity to enjoy them.
    Thanks for reminding us all.

Yes, I know. We talk about three times a year. I always liked your sister, she’s a straight shooter. She’s about two hours from me and preferred I find someone local. I found a Veterinarian that is a lot closer.
One morning I was keeping an eye on a Mama that was having her kittens and one wasn’t breathing. I called your sister at the crack of dawn and she helped me revive him over the phone. He got adopted last week.

    Hi Miss Krystal,
I’m going to look for “212” when I go to the mall this weekend. I always love to try new fragrances.
The Purple Cow sounds yummy! And I’ll definitely have to try a Carney dog the next time I’m up in LA. I can’t tell you how much I miss the food in NY. Especially the pizza. The reason it’s so good is because of the water. I swear it’s true. When my mom worked at that bread store, people would come as far as Pennsylvania to buy loaves of Italian bread, and it was all because the water made it taste so delicious.
My friends keep telling me to come out for a visit. But if I go, I’ll come back 20 pounds heavier…I’d have to catch up on all the eating I’ve been missing out on all these years!!! 🙂

Actually, I checked it out for the first time a few days ago, just in time to find the cat article about saying Goodbye. Couldn’t help myself! Forced to contribute.
Have a new rescue. A black cat with three legs. I named him Trine. He’s been through alot. We’re taking it slow…….

Hi Fran- I love NYC-the FOOD ahhh-Sorry City of Angels, but the food in NYC is a little better…….I want a manhattan special! My mom is from South. Ill. she grew up on a place called, “Steak and Shake”…I was the only Hollywood kid that would call soda, “pop”-Also, because dad’s family is from Minn.
But my mom raised me on these shakes she grew up on— you take a grape soda and put vanilla ice cream in it, it’s called a “Purple Cow”…Most of my friends as a kid, here in LA, were too scared to try it…But I love it!!
I am a coffee and soda fantatic!
I was at Carney’s last night, and the person I went with, laughed, because I got a Large Fanta Orange Soda….If you ever visit LA, you have to get a Carney Dog!! May not be Coney Island, but it’s still awesome!! Miss Krystal 🙂
PS If I had to only pick, one, I would have to pick sinatra over martin…

OMG! You brought back so many great memories. I grew up in Brooklyn, and we had guys with names like “CupCakes” too. (Although I shouldn’t mention all the stories I know here.) My mother worked for a bread store, and one of the guys placed numbers and horse bets for people. When I started working in Manhattan, a friend asked me to go to OTB with her. I was hooked! I would look up the races in the paper, call my mother, and tell her to ask “Tommy” to place a bet on horse “so and so.” At first he couldn’t understand why I’d want to place a bet on a horse that was a long shot. (I just got a feeling on a horse based on his name.) But once he saw that I was winning, he started asking my mother to ask ME which horse I was going to play next!!!
And one word about Frank Sinatra. He was and always will be the BEST! I LOVE him. (Dean Martin, too.) I was lucky enough to see Ol’ Blue Eyes in concert 20 years ago (with Steve & Edie). And, my daughter Vanessa, who is only 12, adores him as well. Her favorite song is “Strangers in the Night.” Can you believe it? We sing along with him in the car all the time.
One more thing. I used to love Italian Ices!!!!! But we called them Lemon Ice. There were so many delicious pastry stores in my neighborhood, and they all sold Italian Ices. Lemon, chocolate, pistachio, rainbow. I loved watching the man scoop it out of the large container and smoosh as much as he could into that little paper cup. Chocolate was my favorite, and I used to call it “chocolate lemon ice.” Go figure.
Did you ever have a Manhattan Special? The most delicious coffee soda ever invented (made with Italian espresso). YUM!
    Hugs, Fran

Two topics here Sweety. First of all, long before I got into astrology, I was an astronomer. Somewhere in the upper claw of the constellation Scorpio is the only visible to the naked eye truly green star. We have already discussed Antares in Scorpio and its significance to the kundalini energy. Is there a connection with the red hair, green eye tradition? I don’t believe in coincidences. Also, my sister’s vet clinic, where I lived for 20 years, is right down the street from Arlington. Her address was Northwest Highway. It seems we were stomping around the same area and finally connected in this way. Also, my second wife, a Scorpio with green eyes by the way, and a medium wanted to learn how to play poker. So we taught her. So we are playing 7 card stud and she gets the deal for the first time. She closes her eyes for a moment and calls 4s wild. Her two down cards were 4s, she drew another on top with 2 aces. Needless to say, that was the first and last time we let her play. Hope your weather is calming down Gina.

    Hi Phillip,
    I’ve always liked that song…..
Having been raised by older people…I’m a big fan of ( don’t laugh ) Frank Sinatra too.
When I unwind …I watch old movies, usually comedy/musicals,I ‘ve always liked Guys&Dolls with Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra…
I just purchased Irma La deuce, and Can-Can…..with Shirley MacLaine in both of them….
I have a very old movie called Robin and the Seven Hoods….about old 1920’s bootleg era Chicago, featuring the “Rat Pack” at it’s finest, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis .
Shirley MacLaine shares a strong resemblence to my Great-Aunt…..I have MANY of her movies , but like the older musicals the best.
My Great-Aunt and Shirley MacLaine look similiar, but both have a very direct way about them and a sharp wit.
My Great-Aunt was a fan of hers when she was alive.
My GrandMother loved Maureen O’Hara….I own the movie ” The Quiet Man ” filmed in IreLand with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara…I watch it every St.Paddy’s day to honor my GrandMother.
( When I was younger, people told me I was a dead-ringer for Maureen O’Hara…I have the red hair and emerald green eyes to match.)
” McClintock ” was another comedy with Wayne & O’Hara that I love.
    Keep the songs coming….

LOL…I just remembered something funny, talking about Guys & Dolls…..My Great-Aunt and GrandParents raised me from 17 months old on,but my biological Mom would pick me once a month for a day or two. Mom was running with Chicago Mob wiseguys ( which is why my Great-Aunt had custody of me )…..
..anyway, one summer ,Mom was dating a guy ( bookie/loanshark for the mob),
named ” CupCakes”….her and CupCakes would take me to Arlington race track to bet the ponies. I was thrilled because I loved horses and was horse-crazy. One time I chose 4 winners in a row, each one of the ponies was number 2 on the racing form….CupCakes was thrilled as some of them were longshots that I had picked that won. CupCakes would reward me with two dollar bills and all the ice cream & Italien- ice I could eat .
    Good memories.
    Blessed Be )O(…Gina Rose ext.9500
I still have a few of those two dollar bills.

Rudy Vallee recorded this George Gershwin song in 1931. I marvel at the wisdom from 80 years ago:
    People are queer, they’re always crowing, scrambling and rushing about;
Why don’t they stop someday, address themselves this way?
Why are we here? Where are we going? It’s time that we found out.
We’re not here to stay; we’re on a short holiday.
Life is just a bowl of cherries.
Don’t take it serious; life’s so mysterious.
You work, you save, you worry so,
But you can’t take your dough when you go, go, go.
So keep repeating it’s the berries,
    The strongest oak must fall,
The sweet things in life, to you were just loaned
So how can you lose what you’ve never owned?
Life is just a bowl of cherries,
So live and laugh at it all.
Life is just a bowl of cherries.
Don’t take it serious; it’s too mysterious.
At eight each morning I have got a date,
To take my plunge ’round the Empire State.
You’ll admit it’s not the berries,
    In a building that’s so tall;
    There’s a guy in the show, the girls love to kiss;
Get thousands a week just for crooning like this:
Life is just a bowl of . . . aw, nuts!
So live and laugh at it all!

Hello Phillip, Wow you say it with grace, I believe Happiness, Joy, the magic in a great laugh, all these states mental states are nothing more than a state of mind, all which are a very conscious choice, we all can choose to be happy, one can live in a box and be the happiest man alive, it’s all a very conscious choice, I choose to be happy, laugh at the spilt milk, enjoy and look forward to cleaning up my yard for the 9th time this week because my girls left out there babies so the dog will eat them leaving fillings everywhere, and then repeating the process of going to the store and buying more and more babies, See why I laugh….Crazy, Crazy, If you don’t laugh then we might just sit and cry Ha Hahah…..Heheheheh!!!! Phillip,
The ” not giving up ” thing runs in my family…..My GrandMother and Great-Aunt were Scotch/Irish from Limerick,IreLand.
O’Reagan on the Irish side and Clan WALLACE from the Scottish side.
I remember my GrandMother, actually going to my school, and throwing an absolute fit with my Catholic school 4th grade nun teacher because the history book didn’t mention William Wallace.
( My grandMother even taught me the Scottish sword dance).
I knew the story of William Wallace years before the movie BraveHeart ever came out. When I watched the movie, it dawned on me that THIS was the guy my GrandMother had told me about.
Now, Wallace is a common name in ScotLand, but when somebody in the family did a trace of bloodlines…it did trace back to the Clan Wallace.
A past life regression showed that I had indeed been all over ScotLand and IreLand in past lives…
When I finally cross, third time’s the charm me thinks, LOL….my daughter will have , per my only request, the lone piper play at the wake.
I hate loud noise, but find bagpipes very soothing and peaceful….
So…it really does run in the family.

gina, My perspective is a bit different and I ask you to consider it. I believe we are all in part on the other side. What you have brought back with you is ACCESS. I believe you have earned that access. When we choose to serve, to be that “vessel” rather than own it, doors open wide between this realm and the higher, finer vibrations. I believe our destiny is to run solar systems as we return to source. We are all being perfected, to handle the responsibility. Just my personal belief.

p.s. — there’s a beautiful fragrance named after Anais Nin called “Anais Anais.” An artist friend of mine designed the floral label, which is still the label used, back in the ’80s. I used to wear it all the time. The ladies reading this blog should experience this wonderful scent. (The men really like it!) 🙂

    Hi Phillip,
I really want to thank you for forwarding me the info you did thru Jennifer C…..it explains alot….
…you know, the second time I died and crossed over ….the only way to explain this is that I have always felt that part of me stayed on the other side.
I feel, sometimes, like I’m straddling both sides at the same time….and sometimes, I feel like I’m not supposed to be here now, it’s a weird, surreal feeling,…even though I know that I am here with a mission and purpose. Guess that is the Pluto influence.
You mentioned ” Michael having my back “….yes, it should show , in my chart, since CHILDHOOD, the various ” battles ” I’ve fought,FOR OTHERS, regarding ethics ….what was right and just. I can see now, how ” Michael” plays into this scenario.
I’ve have always felt that , for that very reason, I came into this world with 5 very strong, male energy Guides.
Had a VERY strong drop-in Guide show up early 90’s, even other mediums sensed him.
You know, we are given the Guides we need to make it thru.
Phillip, I really respect your ” gift”.

    Dear Phillip,
Thank you for such a beautiful article. Remember when you were a kid and how excited you were that school was finally over and summer vacation was starting? Do you remember how long those summer vacations were? They seemed to last forever. Now, as an adult, I’m always saying that I can’t believe how fast the time is going by. The weeks fly by, the years fly by, and there never seems to be enough time in a day.
I really liked the quote from Anais Nin about living moment to moment. Too many times we’re caught up in what happened a week ago, or what’s going to happen tomorrow or next month or next year.
I’ve been practicing what you preach…living in the moment. Yesterday, something didn’t go as I had planned. My usual way of handling it would have been to mope around, cry, and dwell on it the entire day. Instead, I said, “Oh, what a bummer,” and I got on with the rest of my day without being depressed (maybe just a little disappointed). I couldn’t do anything about it, so I figured why worry about it? I want to trust that even though this was a minor setback, it’s not the end. I trust that I will have the future I want, but I’m going to start living it one day at a time. I’m going to make my summer “longer” and I’m going to enjoy each and every day.
    xo, Fran

In the work that Randall & Angel have led me through the last few months, this has been the consistent message. Be patient. Let it go and let it happen with positive thoughts to the future outcome.
In my experience, when expectation is released and you breathe through your fears the state Philip mentions above is reached. And the miraculous change that happens when we release and turn it all over with gratitude and faith is truly amazing.
One of the surprising things I’ve learned is that letting go is not the same as giving in. Heavy comforting stuff when you think about it.
I’ve been going through a relationship challenge the last 6 months (as many of us on here are lol) and with Angels and Randalls help have grown from fear, panic, regret and pain to forgiveness, peace and unconditional love. And what a difference!
When I take the time to feel joy in moments, to feel my own confidence and strength (yoga has been a huge help in this department too) I can literally feel the energy in me and around me change. The birds chirping takes on a new song, all of a sudden hummingbirds will literally appear hovering outside my window, the sun shines brighter… well you get the idea 🙂 And its amazing how quickly things move forward at the point that I release worry, expectation of outcome (which is my old way of control – ugly place to be let me tell you) and fear.
And now we have this blog to extend what we learn on the line with each other! love it!
