For the Love of Gemstones

My favorite kind of jewelry has always been gemstones. I started by wearing multiple rings, which ended quickly when I broke my ankle. I remember having to take off all my jewelry in the hospital and the distinct clanging sound of all my precious rings, as they dropped into a cup one of the nurses provided. Afterward, walking on crutches did not inspire wearing any rings … so I transferred my obsession with beautiful gemstones to necklaces.

Since I love the stones so much I engaged in an intensive study. For instance, I learned that Fluorite is great for relieving stress for those who work on computers for long periods of time. Fluorite comes in one of the widest ranges of colors than any other mineral, and any color works fine for this purpose. It is also a great idea to place a gemstone by your computer screen, therefore balancing the strong energies from the computer, even when turned off.

I’ve used Rose Quartz crystals for emotional healing work, and had clients hold beautifully heart-shaped stones while getting a reading. A strong superstition surrounds this beautiful multifaceted opal. Many believe that only a person under the sign of Libra should wear this gemstone. Some believe that for Librans this gemstone means luck, and for others, trials and tribulations.

Another popular stone is Moonstone. Moonstones are associated with intuition, and the aid of intuitive thought — while emeralds are symbols of deep love and security. Many people prefer emeralds to diamonds and have them set in their wedding bands.

The magnificent royal blue Lapis Lazuli has a history with the pharaohs of Egypt. Used by both priests and pharaohs, this stone was the most valued gemstone in the ancient world. It was actually on a par with gold.  A particular stone worn by a pharaoh was carved into the shape of an eye and ornamented with gold. This constituted the highest power and represented universal truth. Gemstones have many properties other than healing and color. We’ll explore these and more in subsequent segments.

Hi Ariel-Thanks for your great article.
I love stones, too. Green/emerald & jade, pink/rose quartz, clear quartz and topaz have been my favorites for the last few years. Seem to work for me, well…
I would like to get some stones from India and Africa. I am really attracted to a lot of those.
I used to know this one man, years ago, he was also an astrologer. He swore by wearing your “moon sign stone”-but avoid wearing your ascendent sign stone. Not sure why he said that. He sure had a lot of good luck-lol seriously.
I have some Mexican fire opals, loose. Those are really pretty. Bought them the last time I was in Mexico.
The Chinese really believe in the power of Jade. I bought my mother, years ago, a black Jade tea pot, when I was in China. She is too afraid to use it because it is so gorgeous.
Nothing like the natural elements of the earth.
I don’t think I could ever stop learning about all of this stuff.
    Thanks!
    Miss Krystal

I love stones also and am learning about them..I’ve read that Alexandrite is a rare and expensive stone said to stimulate pleasure and love and is also used as a lucky stone.
I hope this helps a little and the information is correct. 🙂

    Hi Ariel,
I’ve missed reading your articles on gem stones….I wear a moonstone and aquamarine necklace that I had custom made many years ago. Moonstone is my favorite stones.
My Grandmother wore a faceted flourite ring for over 40 years…..people thought it was an amethyst until the light hit it a certain way and it seemed to turn green.
I recently bought a pink-chalcedony necklace on sale….it’s a nice quality chalcedony that seems to glow in the right light.
Do you know anything about alexandrite ???? My mother has some nice loose alexandrite stones.
    Blessed Be )O(
