Do Psychics and Religion Mix?

I wanted to pose a few questions to psychics and customers who come from all walks of life and religious backgrounds. From my experience, I find psychics to be very helpful, compassionate, inspirational and spiritual–most seem to believe in God and that they have these gifts in order to help others. As with anything in this world, there is always a risk of false advisers and readers, but the majority, especially at CP.com, are very motivational.

What are your feelings on the fact that some people say psychic ability is not from God and point out various Biblical passages? Do you feel that there are contradictory passages about Mediumship and psychic ability in the Bible? Do other religions address psychic ability? Have you ever had a difficult argument arise from someone who did not believe the ability was a God-driven tool? Bloggers, what do you think?

Intereting. My grandmother is 100 years old, Libra with a cancer moon, Pluto in gemini! She is Jewish, she grew up in a time where that was sometimes, “an issue”
she told me to say, “Tell them you are an American.” Interesting…
    Thanks.

….Thank you for the interesting angle. You must know something? 😉
For what it is worth, now, thanks to Miss Jesse 🙂 as you know, it states on my bio that I studied around the world and basically, I was studying different religions and philosophies…..Including rituals…
So I dabbled in it (a lot of it not everything) as an experiment. I was brave, it was my early twenties….I am independent thinker. I saw people debate everyone, and it made me examine it all on an educational, abroad and very long study..
I had some questions….Basically, what I learned was it all has power. You can get answers from it all…..I did find this out, for myself. The people who joined me (the other students) were people who basically came from split religious households. I wonder how many readers on here came from split religious households? I think that can create questions and not wanting to belong to any group, or maybe find your own system….
I could never judge. I learned so much when was I was in mainland China. I learned old and ancient chinese secrets, and I also visited the Big Buddha in Kamakura, Japan. I wanted to learn. Now, presently, I want to go to Lourdes, France, for the same reasons and India and Israel. It is a passion. I admire it all….
Of course, I know it all has power. That is why I have my own system. What works best for me. What is going on, with me, spiritually, has nothing to do with my clients. I do totally believe in God, but it is my own relationship. This is my own soul purpose thing, that nobody would really be interested in. But I do believe in Karma, what comes around, goes around, and, I do believe in treating others just the way we would like to be treated.
As long as it is in love and light, not harming people or animals, I think that is wonderful.
    Thanks.
Have a great day. Miss Krystal

    Dear Miss Krystal,
You have always had the most brilliant things to write and I have enjoyed every one of them. This was another great one!
I suppose it is now time for me to throw in my 25 cents worth (inflation, you know!), so here it is:
I have written two published books on ancient religions (matriarchal) and have spent many years studying how spirituality became dominated by a patriarchal set of rules. Since the books average in excess of 320 pages each, I will spare our gentle readers the “meat” and go straight for the “pudding” (Pink Floyd fans will get that inference 😉
To quote my bumper sticker: “Religion is for those who believe in hell. Spirituality is for those who have been there!”
I have always been amazed at “born again” folks who use the “old testament” as a basis for determining everything from people’s civil rights to who “god” loves best. The first “flaw” in this convoluted thinking is that each one of those “gentiles” are to be put to death according to that same group of writings. And that’s just for starters! If you really want to take on the beginning book of the “old testament”, you will also have to acknowledge that the first “human” was a woman named Lillith. No kidding! Just ask any orthdox Rabbi or read an original version of the Torah or the Talmud.
As Lewis Black so beautifully put it when he was describing why he felt so many of the religious “not-so-right” folks were picking and choosing their way through the laws in the Old Testament, “It’s easy to understand why you are so confused about these writings. It’s NOT YOUR BOOK!” I believe most Rabbis would agree with that 😉
But if these folks want to proceed with “suffer a Witch not to live, etc…”, then they should realize that the only difference between those who were “blessed” by god giving them visions and others who would be killed by experiencing similar visions was simply which side of the page you stood on. If you were of the group who wrote the bible, you were “in”. Everyone else was “out”. Doesn’t seem quite fair, does it?
History isn’t the only thing written by the “winners”.
My grandmother was a beautiful old “Hedge Witch” and always told me, “If anyone ever asks, just say you’re baptist…that makes them happy and they go away!” LOL!
And so ends my rants for the night, kiddies!
Love and blessings to us all,
    Jesse 9027

    Hi LimeLight,
    I’m always interested in a clients perspective….and I’m very curious….
    What, to you, constitutes
    a ” positive ” reading ????
Is it, perhaps, when the psychic agrees with your vision of the future as you see it or wish it ???
Or is it rather positive encouragement ???
You said you would “only adhere to positive readings”…….so my question to you is this: How do you define a positive reading from a negative reading ?????
    I do not understand…please explain.

    Hi LimeLight,
The job of a psychic, any psychic, is to tell the truth though….and only the truth.
It is the Karmic responsibility of any psychic to give the good news AND the bad news. It’s also the ethical thing to do.

Thanks for the feedback Krystal! Yes, each encounter with one psychic is usually different from the next, but I would only adhere to positive readings. I find that negative readings can really be hard to deal with on the psyche, if you’re not spiritually strong. Ron also had a good idea, which I may just use if I decided to have a reading in future. You guys are really, sincere about answering concerns. That’s why I love the blog!

God exists within every creature that He has created; God speaks to us through our intuition. That is why it is important to be still and know before starting a reading. We need to tap into that silence that permeates our being and that helps us access information that we seek. The more I use and TRUST my intuition, the stronger it becomes. Imagine if God left us to our own devices alone, mainly our minds, what kind of a despairing hell we would live in. God dwells within us as that light that informs us at every moment of the Truth. We just need to stop and listen.

    Hello Limelight-
I am sorry that you had an issue. However, in anything in life, whether it be at the office, your neighbor, someone who waits on you or anything, we just wont jive with everyone.
I think there are some responses on here that just possibly, you could find a better fit for yourself.
If you ever feel the need, I think I could help you and try to stay within your desired boundaries. I do not belong to any group, as I have my own relationship with God. I believe God is in our hearts, but what is in my mind is objective. I do keep it separate. I do not use my own beliefs that work best for me, on others. Facts are facts, visions are visions, has nothing to do with what our spirituality is. Yet, I know my spirituality makes me a more fair and honest person.
I have to admit, however, I have met wonderful hearts and souls that have been of many different faiths. There is good and bad in everything. That is why we should never judge.
ut with anything in life, no matter where we go, who will wait on us, we will encounter people that we really do not connect well with. Please keep that in mind. I would not let one “difficult” connection ruin this wonderful service for you. And that in my opinion is just logical.
    Wishing you peace and hope,

This topic is an important one. I was born with these gifts into an Italian Catholic family. I went to 12 yrs of Catholic School for education, 1 year studying Judiasm and 6 yrs of study in a Spiritualist Church. I have been asked many times “do you believe in God” as if one were required to deny the existence of God in order to use your gifts.I have even been told that doing what I do is evil. I have to laugh at that one. There is more “evil” in other things than in anything metaphysical. I do not believe in “evil” just consider it a lower vibration. In a world that is crying out for help more and more people are realizing the need to some Spiritual Guidance other than from organized religion. If you look there are many metaphysical references in the Bible. We are all born with intutition and some may never use it and other do. I remember when the term “Spirit” was used in my studies, coming from the Catholic upbringing I had to say “Spirit” God until I felt secure enough in saying “Spirit” knowing they were one and the same. The times are changing and more and more people openly admit to having had at least one or more readings with a Psychic. Like there are very Spiritual Priest, Ministers and Rabbis, there are also those who need to remember what they were taught. The same exist in the world of Metaphysics.

A few months ago, I came into conflict with my psychic advice and living in the present moment. I know the bible states: Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God (Leviticus 19:31), but the bible has many prophets.
Well, I have not called a psychic in months, but I still enjoy the blogs. It was a ‘personal’ decision for me to stop calling, but I do not think mediums or psychics are evil. Every psychic I spoke to December/January said the exact same thing about my love life and career and that was amazing. Unfortunately, none of it has come to past, which has been disappointing. I still nurture the good readings with expectations that it is bound to happen one day, but I turn to God more often now.

St. Thomas Acquinas said “It is necessary for the salvation of man that certain truths be made known to him through divine revelation”.
There have been prophets throughout history and many are in the Bible. Everyone has different beliefs, and that is fine. But perhaps some people play into ‘fear’ of the unknown and what they cannot see.
A born again Christian once approached me and said that the devil disguises himself to be holy.
My response to her was that in the New Testament, John, Chapter 4, it says to test spirit. And that is what I do before each session with a client and before I go online with Ca.Psychics.
Also, I add a prayer of protection so that nothing negative can enter myself or my clients.

Individual is the key word here…..As we have the right to worship and believe what it is in our hearts and souls.
However, keep in mind here, we are discussing a subject that does have many connections to the
“Divine”-We all know, as readers, that things can change. We see it go into the extremes. For example, the cruel things that can happen to good people-hmmmm….Sad but true. We have all seen it. And perhaps some of these people were once big believers, and now, because of their shortcomings, they have lost faith. By contrast, we all know or, eventually, will witness an agnostic that could have a miracle-perhaps witness something of the divine, and become a believer! Therefore, this is a life progression thing as spirituality can change.
My mother was an agnostic. She was an agnostic until I was 18 years old. However, my father, made sure that me and my brothers were raised with a religious background. My mother embraced what my father wanted, until one day, honest to God, she was touched by an angel. After that, she became an entirely different person.
I watched as a little girl, my mother argue with missionaries who would come to our front door and boy, she was pretty good! Until she became that person. In other words, she is now telling people about her miracle, her experience and how her faith changed. She also became psychic and has healing abilities in her hands.
My point here, is using my mother, as an example, these are things that can change. Remember this is a life path, and what we find, on the way, can make us more spiritual or, we can completely detach from it. It’s a mystery.
You just never know when it comes to spirituality.
Our experiences can speak to our soul-People have had experiences in life that have changed their souls-for the more Holy or, in the direction of becoming more secular. That is why we are so lucky to live in a country where we are allowed to have our own beliefs and path.
Nobody should ever put down someone’s beliefs and experiences. Nor should anyone force their views upon anyone.
I think this is an area, however, where you can apply the, “Never say never.”
I think as long as everyone wants Peace, period, that is the most important thing. We are all on our own unique path, and spirituality is definitely one of them.

    Hi Randall,
    Very, very well said….
I’ve always said religion is just a “vehicle” to the source….some people drive cadillacs, some drive jeeps, some drive volkswagon beetles….
…you know, I was wondering what your thoughts were on this since I already knew you were a Shaman priest.
I was raised Catholic as well and attended Catholic grade school and high school…but as a hereditary Wiccan….those Wiccan beliefs, even as a child, just seemed to ring true for me.
But if it were not for this blog, nobody would ever know what my chosen path of spirituality was….it never comes up in any of my readings….it has nothing whatsoever to do with my abilities or my readings.
(((( In Fact, the only reason I even mentioned Wicca to begin with in this blog awhile back was because Jacqueline and I were amazed at how much it resembled her earth-based Native American Indian spiritual beliefs)))).

It’s never happened yet, so I’m not sure what I would do if someone tried to say my psychic abilities were “evil.”
I’d probably smile sweetly and walk away from the conversation.
My psychic abilities have definitely given me a deep spirituality, but they have also opened me up to so much that I don’t feel my beliefs can ever fit neatly into any established religion. So I consider myself to be a devout agnostic. I like to say, “I worship the unknown.” I go to “church” multiple times a day. 🙂

Your soul shines through when you read for me, and I appreciate you and all the others who can read without judgment. I agree with you that just because a person is religious, that doesn’t make them any kinder than those who choose to be spiritual. I’ve experienced that myself. It’s disheartening when someone can go to church one day a week and stab you in the back every other day of that week.

    Dear Miss Krystal,
I was raised in a religious household. I’m sure you’ve read some of the stories I’ve shared with Phillip about my Catholic school years. It took me a long time to overcome the guilt of not going to church anymore, but I’ve learned to accept what it is that I believe in my heart. I choose to live a spiritual life rather than a religious one. I’ve reached an age where I’m grateful for having an open mind. I’m willing to learn and grow, and to accept that there is more “out there” than just what the church wanted me to know. I think that no matter who you are, someone blessed with psychic ability or someone who calls for advice, the thing to remember is to walk in the light. To be a kind and caring person, to give of yourself when you can, and to remember that we’re basically all the same on the inside.
    Love & Blessings to you,

In the last 43 years of doing psychic readings and teaching this subject…..
I can give several examples where religion interfered with a ” psychic ” reading…..
About 8 years ago… when a young female called me and started out the reading by begging
me ” not to hang up on her because she was a stripper “…she stated that she was having a hard time finding a psychic who would even read for her as stripping in a night club went “against their religious beliefs”…one psychic even told her she would burn in hell…..and then hung up on her.
And I’ve read for many, MANY, MANY gay people and couples thru the years and was told by them that other psychics would not ” read ” them because living a gay lifestyle was “against their religious beliefs”.
Oh, and here is another…many pagan/wiccans, AND ALSO people who practice a non-traditional religions have called me because other psychics will not read for them as it ” goes against their religious belief as they are worshipping the man in the red suit with the pitchfork and horn”.
Also, a native American Asakan Indian who was told to go elsewhere for a reading because they were practicing an earth-based religion.
AND many clients have told me, in past years, they called me for a straight up psychic reading…..not a sermon. They laughed as they said if they wanted a sermon, they would go to a church and hear a sermon for free. They tried other psychics who merely wanted to preach to them their religious viewpoints.
    …..ridiculous, sad, but all true.
All examples of why religion and psychic readings do not mix.
I teach my students that religion can, sometimes, make you a better person…..but to keep religion away from your psychic readings.
To stay objective, non judgemental and open should be the the goal when any psychic is doing a reading.

Being from a very Religious background (two religions at that!), I personally needed a well thought and studied argument for my psychic-medium abilities. I was having experiences that my religions said were “evil” and “wrong.” My experiences of God did not fit what my religions taught. For years and years I secretly tried to package my experiences into a nice neat box that would fit all of who I am, and my religions, and somehow be pleasing to my family. This is a tall order and certainly was not possible for me. I had to find a way out of the shame, guilt, and fear that God, my “father” was going to throw me into a hellfire for eternity because of what I was experiencing, even though “he” loves me.
What I learned in this long process is that I am deeply spiritual and not religious. I don’t fit in a nice neat box that will please everyone. With the very humbling realization of this came an identity crisis and a feeling that I didn’t belong to anything.
To me, spirituality is the blending of love and intelligence, right brain and left brain, yin and yang, energy and physical, God and man… all of which resides in you and me. I feel that most religions began with these spiritual principals that their masters/prophets originally taught. However, the human condition gets in the way with ideologies that fit ego rather than Spirit; and that is where the judgment, shame, blame, and guilt come from… as well as a patriarchal hierarchy.
I think the human condition comes with strong tendency to rely on the rigid and linear thought of the left brain, like Gina Rose was talking about. Through my experience I understand both the difficulty and the importance of getting into the right brain… we have a lot of resistance to that! What has helped me with this is to remember:
I am not a human seeking a spiritual experience; rather I am a spiritual being here to experience the human condition for my soul’s evolution… just like everyone else here… including religious people.
This helps me to disengage from my own judgment as well as that of others; and it helps me stay focused on love, compassion, and similarities.
Among many others, I love this Albert Einstein quote:
“Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.”

Thanks, Fran. Again, the most important thing period, in spirituality, and the foundation of what our founding fathers wanted for America, was not to judge. What is so beautiful about America, is, that we have the right to spiritual and religious freedom. And I feel that we need to respect that. I think us readers fit in right here…..
If you truly know God, and walked in the light, you know the following: (1) we all make mistakes (2) God will forgive you (3) you remain open minded and never judge a person from any walk of life, including different religious and cultural differences. (4) and that we all can find a common ground by treating others the way we would like to be treated-“The universal golden rule”
My friends range from all different cultures and walks of life. For what it is worth, I can feel the power in it all. I may not have a Catholic background, but studied it, and I know from just being a channeler, that there is power in Mary. Thus, I have felt the power of King David, Moses and Abraham, of Israel, and the power of Christ. I will not say which of the above mentioned, I walk with on a day to day basis, but I know they all have the power of love and light, including forgiveness.
Do I know there is power elsewhere? Absolutely! Do I respect it? Absolutely. As long as there is love and light, whatever works, right? We are all individual, and I always keep that mindset.
I think my faith helps me not judge and also I am a light warrior that works very hard to keep the white light around us at all times in the reading. Not only do I protect myself, but I protect the reading. In love, light, truth and human and international understanding.
But I always am objective in my readings. I have to be, or I would not have the accuracy rate that I do.
    Bless you,
    Miss Krystal

If one believes that the bible is the word of God, then unfortunately there is little room for rationalization. I have found it curious that the old testament is rife with “prophets” heralding the future, while decrying the soothsayers as false prophets. I applaud this discussion because it ultimately challenges the mind to question truth vs. belief; however, the discussion will always be somewhat circular since belief is “faith in things unseen” and truth is awareness of things known. Everyone must make up their own mind about what is permissable within the context of their belief system. I believe it was Emerson who said,”Man is not saved in bundles.” I feel most here will agree that psychism is NOT necessarily spiritual and unfortunately neither is religion.

I also believe firmly that there is a HUGE difference between religion and spirituality.
For example : I live in an area of the country where, IF the people here knew what I really did for a living…they most likely would burn my house down. ( and I mean that literally).
It is an area with many churches of
organized ” religion ” … but they have absolutely no, none, zip, tolerance for anything outside of their religious beliefs. They view anything that deals with the paranormal as Satanic . A year before I moved here, my Mom told me that these very religious people even ran out of town a meta-physical book shop that sold tarot card decks a few years back. (I retired down here only because taxs are very low and I have family here…otherwise I would not be here).
I prefer to walk a spiritual pathway….My religion is one that embraces tolerance towards every person, no matter their belief system, race, gender, or what have you. And I do try to “walk the talk” all seven days of the week….not just one.
But…my spiritual beliefs do not have a thing to do with my psychic abilities.

My research has revealed that the admonition against “soothsayers” was inserted into the existing bible at the Council of Nicea in 325 AD.(Amongst many other issues) The intention was to put the power solely in the hands of the church officiants, and keep the mysteries from the great unwashed. It’s political, and the church is a political institution.
I believe that psychic ability is a side effect of spirituality. When one considers that God is Love, and experiences the healing power of Love, it begins to make a lot more sense. I see Love as the glue that holds the universe together. God-Love.

    Carrie,
I agree with you that psychics do use their gift to help others and most are quite religious.
As a fourth generation clairvoyant and empath my gift has, of course, been inherited. I have always believed that everything I have inherited is God-given, including brown eyes and clairvoyance.
I also serve on the Board of my Church and have for many years. Absolutely no conflict there-in both arenas-my work and my personal religion-I am dedicated to the service of others.
I do find, in speaking with callers, that some have been told that our gifts are in conflict with religion. They are somewhat surprised and definitely comforted when I mention to them that many of my colleagues are serious students of the religion of their choice and serve the religion of their choice in some capacity.
There are so many passages in the Bible and in other religions’ sacred documents that refer to serving others with one’s personal gifts.
However an individual uses their personal gifts to truly and sincerely serve others is a definite expression of their religion.

When I have come across people who claim psychics are evil, I pose to them that psychic ability is a God given gift and truly we are all psychic on some level. I remind them of prophecy Biblical times.
In the Bible it says not to go to soothsayers or fortune-tellers. That can be so one doesn’t base their sole path on predictions and do nothing to change that path. If someone is told they will always be a criminal they will do nothing to change that path and psychics see some, and part of the picture, but people have free will and there is always a choice and when you combine religion with psychic prediction God ultimately only knows the choices you will make.

    PS….
Having said that though, I am a
very ” spiritual ” person…..but I do NOT mix my religious/spiritual beliefs with my psychic abilities and do NOT allow those spiritual beliefs to influence any reading.

    No…
Religion and true psychic ability do not have a thing to do with each other.
However, I am a spiritual person and teach a specific religion pathway. But my religion has NOTHING whatsoever to do with my psychic ABILITIES. In other words, if I were to walk away from my religios beliefs tomorrow it would have nothing to do with, or change my psychic abilities in any way.
Our brains are constantly evolving….the brain is a very powerful thing, and especially the least understood right side of the brain, the creative/psychic side.
We, as humans, have the ability to harness, and manipulate energy….hence all of the government testing back in 80’s on PsychoEnergetics.
I did write a paper that was published about ten years on Spirituality VS Evolution….it tackled that topic….in a very scientific way.
Hans Holzer,FAMOUS published paranormal researcher and gifted psychic was an atheist.
In the scientific part of the paranormal field I’ve met MANY, MANY truly gifted real psychics who were atheists.

PS…..When our CIA launched their infamous StarGate project in 80’s….religion/spiritual beliefs were never a part, or requirement, or in any way played a part, of the psychic experiments that were done. The only thing required was people ( psychics) exhibiting beyond normal/above average psychic abilities.
And furthermore, when I died crossed over the second time….I noticed there was no specific religion or denomination on the other side.

I personally don’t believe God plays a role in my psychic abilities or my readings. I don’t receive messages from God per say, I receive messages from people who have passed on. I feel a person’s relationship with God is between God and that person. I don’t communicate with God when I’m using my psychic abilities, I communicate with loved ones who have passed on and I read the person’s energy and describe to them everything I feel they’re feeling. In a professional setting motivational or not, I don’t believe God should play a role in our instruction as psychics unless requested by the client. If your looking for spiritual guidance regarding your religion, I personally would talk to a Priest, Rabbi, Sage, Imam, etc. I provide advice regardless of the gender, marital status, religious status, cultural background etc. I feel especially in our profession it’s best to remain non biased when reading. I believe in my own religious and spiritual beliefs and I am very well connected with what I believe in. If a caller needs God in their lives, and they need to pray to have faith in their life, I’ll be the first person to suggest it. My religious beliefs are unique and undefined. As a spiritual counselor I have a knowledge of hundreds of different religions. As a medium, I have a clear unseen knowledge of the afterlife and Heaven and Hell. So my work keeps my beliefs strong and they probably grow stronger with everyday. I would love to see a passage in the bible that states prophets are unholy or evil. The Bible has words from many different prophets minor and major, so it confuses me why people would think my work is evil or unholy. All I know is regardless of my religious beliefs, I help people everyday with their lives, I give hope and help people come to conclusions. I know what I do is good. Weather I’m working as a Medium to connect with loved ones, or reading into your boyfriends deepest thoughts. I’m doing what I love and helping people in the process. Morally, I find nothing wrong with my work, I just do the best I can to help and that’s the end. I know many people would probably disagree with this with who are deeply religious and I have no problems with that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You don’t have to agree with what I do or believe in God, but I would appreciate others be tolerate of my career choice and look at my life from a non biased point of view just as I look into hundreds of people’s lives every week. The only religion that matters when I’m reading is the caller’s religion and I do make that a priority over any of my own religious beliefs.

This is a very serious topic. I am very passionate about it.
Actually, one of the reasons I studied metaphysics, was to find my own meaning in things. And I did. Also, I studied several religions on an intellectual level.
In my experience, people who claim that this is evil, are people who have been brain washed and have a spirit of fear. Additionally, I don’t feel I am doing anything wrong. I have worked very hard in order to improve my self, my spirituality and my own relationship with God. For example, I have had God answer me time and time, again. For God knows my heart, and he knows what I feel, including my love and devotion to him. He also knows that there are many things that I do not do because of my faith. But the most important thing, is, that we are not supposed to Judge. I have seen many religious people fail here…..
I would not be the person I am without my faith. I pray at night and in the morning and in between my calls for clients. I have let so many things go, and put it all in God’s hands. I do not believe in revenge as the passage, “Vengeance is mine says the Lord,” was something that made clear sense to me.
I don’t feel that being a medium is evil. This is an ability that I have and I have helped a lot of people. I can’t see anything wrong with that. I have had many confirmations in my life that this is what I am supposed to do. God is my witness. It’s never too late to turn to God. Have faith and watch your hope grow!
    Sincerely,
    Miss Krystal
