Change Your Perspective, Change Your Life!

How Your Point of View, Not What You See, Shapes Your Experience

Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. The accidental death of a loved one, getting rear-ended at a red light or unfairly fired from a job when you didn’t deserve it. However, as traumatic as events like these may seem, on their own, they don’t actually hold any power over your life. It’s how you choose to interpret what goes down every day that matters.

Translation? If you can learn to look at the bright side when life hands you lemons—or at least seek out the lesson—you can change your life for the better.

Here are three simple ways shifting your perspective can improve your experience.

A Sunnier Outlook Equals a Happier Life

If you’re looking to for a general sense of well-being, optimism rules the day. How? For starters, like attracts like. Thereby, if you look for the gold in any given situation (no matter how buried), you’re more likely to find it. On the other hand, douse yourself in self-pity and bury your head in the sand, and you’ll find that you’re just in the dark. No matter how bad things seem, remember that the only constant in life is change. By combining positive thinking with active steps toward your goals, you’ll ensure that you meet them eventually—and feel a lot better in the process.

Honesty Doesn’t Have to Be Brutal

Sometimes we mistake beating ourselves up for being honest with ourselves. Sure, we all screw up sometimes and it’s vital to our personal and spiritual growth to acknowledge our mistakes. However, self-flagellation is no way to advance our own cause. If anything, it’s a surefire way to destroy self-esteem and ensure that our efforts stall out. Once you’ve admitted your mistakes, make it your point to learn from them and move on. That’s real honesty. After all…

Lessons are Given Until You Learn Them

Finally, there is one fundamental truth we should all understand no matter what happens in life. We will be presented with the same lessons over and over again until we learn them. The universe is funny that way—giving us what we need whether we ask for it or not. So, whether an event in your life was foreseeable or a freak accident, it’s important to take what you can from it and change accordingly. One of the definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Thereby, it’s not just your perspective that will make a difference in your experience. Your actions impact your circumstances, too.

this is Truen. The path to enlightenment is suffering. We must be able to embrace suffering to move on. The untimely death of my dad has and is teaching me that. What I don’t like is all th selfish people out there that care not about you, it’s all them them them. Scary.

I absolutly loved reading this article but more so I love to hear responses from people just like me Wanting Answers. I think you all had a great deal in helping me understand my own need in finding truth behind my question.
I realised that action plays a key role in aiding our ability to move forward NO MATTER WHAT the circumstance. And this is exactly what I plan on doing.
You see I am 43yrs. old and have been inlove with my fiance for many many years. Two years ago we recieved a diagnosis of a mental illness in him called pyschosis. This was and is an ongoing concern and true hurt in our relationship as it has distorted the facts of our life between him and me. My fiance left me 2 mths. ago believing I had cheated. He hears voices now and his condition I hate to say is worsening. I read this article in hope to gain knowledge as to how to proceed in a relationship when I feel everything in life and love has failed me. But I read on with an open mind and heart knowing that my situation is different than any and looking for answers that suited my need. I found in this article that I cannot change him. I can however change me and furthermore proceed in the best way I can to ensure our future needs. I relaise I need not to wait but take action even when my love is not of a well mental state.
Thank-you for sharing your stories with me.

To illustrate points made in the article, a friend, a program director, had a difficult supervisor. She frequently worked at cross-purposes, at times actively sabotaging his efforts. This continued over time, but he seemed to view it as an annoyance, rather than a threat.

Eventually she helped one of his employees bring an official complaint, saying that my friend’s impatience and angry outbursts were creating a hostile atmosphere. I’ve never seen him lose his temper, but he can be very stubborn. I thought he would have to resign. So did they.

He surprised everyone. His position was, “if there’s any way I can improve my performance, I’m happy to do it.” They wanted him to get counseling. He did this sincerely, and from my conversations with him, gained a lot from it.

They could not get rid of him because of his positive attitude. He survived the official complaint process, kept his position, and gained even greater respect from his team.

After a year or so, he sought and was hired for the same position in a larger city. He moved on and was even happier in his new life. Not long after he left, his supervisor and her boss were involved in a scandal that forced them both to resign. Their own injustice brought them down, and he didn’t have to say a word against them.

He was in his late 50’s when this happened, I was much younger. I would have worried myself into a negative state of mind and would have been consumed with defending myself. Now that I’m approaching the age he was then, I realize these things tend to sort themselves out.

It is true the article is well presented. Personally, I have been on the road of life throwing lemons, but it was not life per say, it was human beings who claim that they know everything that tried to mis-lead me, but I stood my ground and believed that God is the source and center of everything, and before good or bad things happen to us, He knows it first, Today I am what I am because of my faith in God, and my own personal experiences in this present life, hardships and trials and tribulations, I am more stronger that ever before. I do not dispute about God and I do not dwell in the past, I look forward to each day with a smile, and thank God For All His Blessings. I wish everyone who is reading this God’s Richest Blessings. Commit your life in serving God and God’s People. This is the Final Goal. Thanks for this wonderful article. Blessed be Charmaine McDonald

Spiritually, I have a long way to go , growing, to get to where, I would like to go, getting through to my family, to those that I love the most, and most times it takes time, patience, and communications, to overcome the errors made, in haste, anger, and most of all not taking the time to really listen and not knowing , when is the right time to admit, my faults and expressing how, I want to make things better, instead of letting years go by, without any resolve and taking too long to admit to my mistakes and voice to my loved one , to make amends, start over, fresh ,both parties having a say, how we this should be done. Since , none of us can claim , who is better or worse, but we are in this life , together ,at the same time. It is a certainty, we are still moving , in the same cyle , to make a difference, in the now, and thereafter.

    * The below paragraph I quoted from this article as it is SO TRUE !

That’s the way Karma works !!!!!!!!!!!! We are all down here to learn and grow so as to evolve spiritually.
And I might add, it’s NOT ENOUGH to simply go thru the motions, making temporary changes,…..you really have to thoroughly learn and live each lesson.

    Good job, SK Smith !

    Blessed Be )O(
