How Chakras Affect Your Relationships

Your Body, Your Self and Everything Else

All life moves. That is to say, everything making up our Universe has its own vibrational frequency. What we find on a subatomic level isn’t solid matter but pure energy, so your body is as much an ocean of vibration as sound and light. The physical body vibrates at quite a low frequency, which is why we can see it with the human eye. But much of what exists in our reality vibrates at an exponentially higher rate and is not perceivable by ordinary sight alone.

Ancient Vedic knowledge says energy moves in specific channels throughout the body with seven main concentrations running from the base of the spine to the top of the head. We call these energy centers chakras—portals in the human energy field—and they vibrate beyond our physical sense awareness, existing in the subtle body. In Sanskrit, chakra literally means wheel, and this is how these centers are visually conceived. Imagine spinning wheels or vortices down the midline of your body through which cosmic energy flows. Each chakra vibrates at a defined frequency and corresponds to specific organs, glands, colors, as well as to physiological and emotional issues we adopt in our experience of reality. When a chakra isn’t functioning properly, vital energy force is restricted and your being falls into disharmony. Let’s look at how an imbalance in each chakra manifests in your body, mind, and relationships:

Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Associated with the color red and located at the base of the spine near the pelvic floor, this chakra is all about stability, basic survival needs, and your connection to the earth. When it’s out of balance you will feel overly fearful about your place in the world and suffer heightened insecurity and anxiety, especially in your close relationships. You might struggle with trusting your instincts or feel out of tune with your intuition. It might be difficult for you to deeply connect with others, as intimate issues are associated with blocked root chakras. You may suffer from severe fight or flight responses when faced with minor conflict, and you will feel ungrounded, unsafe, and will lack imagination and dreams.

Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)

This chakra corresponds to the vibration of the color orange, and is located just below the navel. When it’s out of balance you’ll feel an emotional disconnect in your life, a distance from everything around you. You will lack creativity, sensuality and will find it challenging to produce on the physical and mental planes. You’ll also have low energy, low sex drive, and difficulty experiencing joy—you might slip too easily into wallow, shame, and guilt. Or on the opposite side of the spectrum you could be exceedingly emotional, hyper sexual, and hedonistic.

Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

This is your center of personal power and self-mastery. Associated with the color yellow, and located above your navel, the solar plexus houses emotional issues like assertiveness, self-worth, self-acceptance, anger, and aggressiveness. When out of alignment, you will lack confidence and self-esteem. Often, this chakra tends to be blocked in those who are in abusive or controlling relationships. An imbalanced solar plexus will cause difficulty in manifesting desires—a quality of the perpetual self-saboteur. On the other hand, you might abuse or misuse power and assert your dominance over others.

Heart Chakra (Anahata)

In Sanskrit, Anahata means “unhurt, unstruck, and unbeaten.” This is a beautiful way to look at the heart chakra, which can be the most powerful energy center in your body. Associated with bright green, an imbalance in the heart chakra is especially significant because it is located where the other six chakras converge. It’s the foundation of the astral body—the connection between the physical and spiritual planes. This is the center of compassion, empathy, trust, forgiveness, and unconditional love. A blockage can manifest as lack of emotional fulfillment and an inability to receive or give love. Those with an imbalanced heart chakra might suffer extreme loneliness, deep sorrow, emotional instability, or lack compassion and connection to others. Conversely, at a low vibration, you might love too much and smother those close to you.

Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

The throat chakra is about personal expression and speaking your truth. Associated with the color blue, the throat chakra rules communication and verbalizing your thoughts and feelings to others and yourself. It’s also associated with artistic expression, dreaming, and self-belief.

Brow Chakra (Third Eye – Ajna)

Also called the third eye, the brow chakra is associated with the color indigo. It’s located between and just above the brows, and it’s the center of your inherent psychic ability. When the third eye is balanced you will feel in control of your life and have clear sight—an attunement with your inner wisdom and higher self. You will trust yourself to make the right decision in any situation. When this chakra is functioning properly you’ll also experience psychic impressions through clairvoyance and claircognizance. You might begin communicating with spirit guides or see auras and energy patterns. You will be able to visualize for powerful manifestations. When blocked, the third eye causes a lack of imagination, of vision, and it clouds your intuition. You may find it’s nearly impossible to see the “big picture” or find your way out of a problematic situation.

Crown Chakra (Sahaswara)

Located at the crown of the head, this energy center is associated with pink or violet so fair it’s nearly white. The crown chakra is your connection to Source energy and higher wisdom. It influences spiritual will, cosmic knowledge, inspiration, and your connection to the Universe. When out of balance, you will struggle with common sense and have cognitive difficulty, anxiety, and excessive worry. You may sense higher guidance, but when blocked, this chakra influences the ego and fear voice in your head rather than Source expression.

Meditation and Visualization for Balance

A powerful yet simple way to clear any chakra is through meditation and visualization. Beginning at the root chakra, imagine a clockwise swirling, red wheel. Visualize yourself polishing the wheel to its optimum brightness. Then as the wheel spins, imagine its warmth and energy radiating outward farther and farther. Watch as vibrant red reaches beyond the room you are sitting in. Then watch it reach out to the edges of the city, then the country, then the planet, then the galaxy. Radiate the chakra’s energy deep into space. Do this until the color, light, and power of the chakra has reached Source energy. Continue this same process with each chakra.

If you want to focus on one chakra, eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables or wear clothing associated with its color. For example, choose beets, raspberries, and tomatoes if you are activating your root chakra, and wear red often. With practice you will become more in tune with your subtle body and will physically feel when a chakra becomes blocked. In time, you will realize a kind of harmony creating balance and grace between your inner and outer worlds.

Thank u for this article. I am so deep in mental pain that I am going to try this. I am also giving thought to transforming the Chakras related to me on fine paper and framed for a wall in my home. This has opened a window for me to start understanding that how I am feeling is really something, a real something. Sincerely
