Be Your Own Diva

“Diva” is a term which is widely misunderstood. The Urban Dictionary interprets Diva as: “a woman who considers herself above others and arrogant; a bitchy woman that must have her way exactly, or no way at all. She’s often rude and belittles people, believing that everyone is beneath her and thinks that she is so much more loved than what she really is.” I disagree! I believe a Diva is someone who radiates passion, confidence — and yes — happiness. People are drawn to Divas because they are secure in their identity, or at least, they portray themselves as such.

Here are 5 easy steps to becoming YOUR personal Diva. And if you do it right, you’ll notice a difference immediately:

5. Spoil Yourself. I don’t believe in the term ‘spoil’ too much. I think life is an array of preferences. Thus, if you want to travel to a far away land, do it. If you have your eye on those $600 pair of shoes, save up and buy them! Life is not about denying yourself – it’s about getting what you want. The journey to your goal will always be interesting, albeit strenuous. Once you’re there, the success feeds your confidence. Passion is rewarded. Have expectations and work to achieve them. Never apologize for your desires.

4. Let yourself be adored. Fact: Men love women. Opposite to popular opinion, the world is not a constant battle of man vs. woman. Learn to understand and appreciate men for who they are. That is the secret to minimizing and eliminating disappointments. Men are providers, hunters, and extremely proud. Don’t try to belittle them, don’t try to compete, and don’t nag. Oh, and did I mention, they love women. That’s a huge advantage. Men have respect for confident women yet strongly dislike the arrogant and dramatic kind. But (here comes the proverbial “but”) you have to be feminine — always. If a man wants to open your door, let him. If he compliments you, accept it. We are always busy defending compliments or gestures from men. For what? You are belittling yourself and (believe it or not) insulting him. Accept a compliment, and ENJOY it.

3. Don’t hold on to the past. Life is too short to hold grudges. Take my word for it. I have spent years learning the act of forgiveness. Not only towards others, but first and foremost forgiving yourself. We are our own harshest critics. I once read about a 99 year old woman who during an interview was asked what her secret to life was. She responded that every morning when she gets up, she looks in the mirror and utters the following words: I forgive you. That’s a very powerful statement. Forgiving yourself, is the most potent step to freeing yourself from baggage of the past.

2. Acknowledge your beauty. Everyone is beautiful to someone. I have seen women of all sizes, looks, and shapes find love, succeed at work, and have a multitude of friends. It is all in their demeanor, their aura, and how they present themselves. Don’t apologize for what you are like, how you dress, or what you think. Most appreciate their partner not having a cookie cutter look, but rather have a unique mole, personal style etc. If you are comfortable in your skin, you will exert an aura that is irresistible to people of all sexes. People love being around those who are comfortable with themselves.

1. Be proud. I know they always say, pride and ego are evil. In reality it should say, too much pride and ego are bad, but a dab of each is healthy and necessary! You should take pride in your talents, in who you are, and what you do. You are a unique individual, there is no other like you in this world. Whatever your talents are, stride proudly.

It all boils down to one point: Enjoy your life and everything that is a part of it.
