Woman Falls in Love With Statue of Liberty

Why Get a Person When You Can Get a Statue?

Amanda Whittaker is an object-sexual: she falls in love with inanimate objects. Sadly, she just broke up with her drum set (apparently a long distance relationship). But she has a new flame: The Statue of Liberty.

The Huffington Post reports:

After a ending a long relationship with her drum set, Amanda Whittaker, 27, has ditched her symbols and fallen in love with the Statue of Liberty.

“She is my long-distance lover and I am blown away by how stunning she is,” Whittaker, who suffers from objectum sexuality, told the Sun.

The disorder causes people to form emotional bonds, like falling in love, with inanimate objects.

According to the paper, Whittaker fell for the monument when her friend posted a picture of “Libby,” as she calls it, online.

She’s made the journey from her home in the United Kingdom to New York four times to visit “Libby.” But Whittaker opted for a look-alike shrine at her home because, she says, too many other people love the real statue too.

In an interview on ITV’s program This Morning, she said that her feelings for the monument prevent her from falling in love with humans, and that she’s not like other people, AOL Travel UK reports.

As Metro UK points out, this isn’t the first time the disorder has made headlines. In 1979, Eija-Riittaa Berliner-Mauer, 54, married the Berlin Wall – changing her surname to mean “Berlin Wall” in German.

What do you think: Is she on to something? Ever fallen in love with an inanimate object yourself?

LOL LOL Gina Rose and that Corvette, I saw this interview and it was indeed a real person with in my view a real disorder. There has to be something missing in your life to have this situation, however like most things it is always the borderline between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour I too own an 88 Ford Escort Cabrioley, the last one made in germany withan unusual finish to the spec and colour etc, I waited 26 years to own one! and I got one eventually, yes I was and am in love with it, it was a reward I promised myself that one day I will own one and now it is sat on a friends drive awaiting the day i can fire her up and go cruising!!! BETTER UK WEATHER !!! However I consider this healthy, I waited as my priorities were, children, bills, house mortgage etc. Would this lady in question wait? Or has she substituted real life to something not normal to most of us? I feel for her.

    Hi Virgo 2757

I knew YOU were joking…..I was pointing out the difference though between within normal range fetishes and folks with serious psychiatric disorders…..

….this woman was not faking, she really has a rare disorder…..it really does exist and in fact, is on the extreme end of OCD.

Off-line I read for patients referred to me by Psychiatrists…..some of these disorders are real, but this one in particular, is very rare in the strength of it’s extremity.

I would hope that anyone who read my comment realized I was *****JOKING***** about the vibrator!!!

Sorry if I seem cold-hearted, but you can march 50 experts past me with all kinds of “research”, I’m still finding this whole thing hard to swallow. I really think this woman is out for her 15 minutes of fame. How much money is she making granting interviews and making the talk-show and news feature rounds?

Some of the things people have listed so far as being “objects of desire” were things a person could own, would have around them so they could relate to them (whenever possible, one would assume, the drum set not withstanding), and which had some kind of personal meaning for them….cell phones, shoes, etc., even a car. How the heck does anyone justify laying claim on something so large, so unattainable, and universally recognized by all as public property, as the Statue of Liberty?

Sorry, I’m just not buying it.

The article stated that : The ***** disorder ***** causes people to form emotional bonds, like falling in love, with inanimate objects.””””””

The article also stated that : In an interview on ITV’s program This Morning, she said that her feelings for the monument ****** prevent her from falling in love with humans,****** and that she’s not like other people, AOL Travel UK reports.

This article is talking about a real disorder….which is MUCH different from your normal likes such as a vibrator or even a car.

I once owned an 81 corvette that I LOVED !!!! BUT it did not stop me from having a normal, healthy, and loving relationship with a man. ( a living man, not a statue…..LOL LOL …sorry, I couldn’t resist that one.)

You ask the readers if any of us has ever fallen in love with an inanimate object. Do vibrators count? (And how many women will admit it?

very interesting article. there have been some tv shows with objectum sexuality as the topic.

to be honest, i think that there are lesser degrees of this, like the love of cars, shoes, and if you really watch people they seem to love their cell phones/computers, etc. i guess the next step would be having sex with these objects. i think people love some “things” very deeply and are attached to them without sexual intent.

it must be very hard to love something, a thing that gives nothing back. but hey, i know some people that might as well be an object (thing).

Object sexuality or objectum sexuality, (OS), is a pronounced emotional and often romantic desire towards developing significant relationships with particular inanimate objects.
Those individuals with this expressed preference may feel strong feelings of attraction, love, and commitment to certain items or structures of their fixation.

For some, sexual or even close * emotional * relationships with humans are incomprehensible.
Object-sexual individuals also often believe in *** ANIMISM ***, and sense reciprocation based on the belief that objects have souls, intelligence, feelings, and are able to communicate.
Contrary to sexual fetishism, the object to an OS person is viewed as their partner and not as a means to an end to enhance a human sexual relationship.

I actually called one of the Psychiatrists I read for about this , it is rare, but this Doctor has run across a couple of cases of it over the years.
