How to be Happy After a Divorce

There is always life after loss. It’s the journey toward healing that can seem scary and muddled. If you’ve recently been through a divorce and are hoping to come out on the other side a stronger, happier person, take a look at some advice from others who have traveled the same path.

Acceptance, Not Blame

Making peace with your ex and your past is the only way to move forward. Instead of blaming him or yourself for choices made which led you to this place, take responsibility for your part and accept that you both did the best you could at the time.

Enjoy Your Freedom

There are positive aspects to being single that you should revel in! You now have the freedom to do what you want when you want without answering to anyone else. You no longer have to make the daily compromises that are required of partnerships, no matter how small these compromises are. So celebrate your freedom to explore yourself as a unique and complex individual. You never know what new experiences and people will come your way! “Trust is so important in relationships and it can be a deal breaker when trust has been broken.” – Psychic Deejay ext. 5435

Make It About Happiness

Instead of hosting a self-pity party (which is easy to do), focus on your happiness and the life changes it will take to achieve it. Get out of your own head enough to appreciate the beauty present in daily moments. Make it a goal to bring happiness into other’s lives. It’ll give you a sense of fulfillment while taking the focus off you and your problems.

“When you love the other more than yourself, the relationship is doomed. Love yourself first.” – Psychic Charrmayne ext. 5058

Goal Orient Yourself

Nothing puts you on the right path and attitude like a healthy set of ambitious goals. If it gets you up in the morning with a sense of purpose and a smile on your face, keep doing it! It’s about building meaning and appreciation into your life, having a sense of accomplishment, and the knowledge that you achieved it all on your own.

Your Beautiful, Independent Self

Rebuilding your life, self-love and self-esteem is an arduous and intense project, so be patient with yourself. By accepting your past, focusing on the happiness and beauty in each moment, and achieving hard-won goals that enhance the quality of your life, you will inevitably find yourself happily divorced ever after. You may find, in fact, that through the struggles and growth of your personal journey, you like and admire the new you so much more than the old!

Oops – almost always a “blessing” in disguise! Your former partner is opting out of your life because they know they can’t make you happy. The next one will be so much better!

Deborah: big smile! Love your response!

I’ve read that the myth of happily-ever-after marriage has been replaced by happily-ever-after divorce. So be very sure that you will be better off, before initiating a divorce.

However, if the other person initiates it, it’s almost always a blading.
