Colors in Dreams Part 3

Before we begin exploring more colors, let’s look at some color terms.

Hue: Another name for color

Tint: Mix of a color plus white

Shade: Mix of a color plus black

Value: The lightness or darkness of a color.

Every color has a tint, shade and value to it. In this story, we won’t get too specific, but might add some tints and shades to mix it up a bit.

Okay, let’s begin with the warm colors. These are the colors that tend to make us feel intensely, and have a strong emotional reaction. They are the red’s, oranges, and yellows. Let’s look at some of these, and their connotations when seen in dreams.

Orange. Associated with autumn, pumpkins, etc. In the Eastern part of the globe, orange is associated with religion, and the second chakra. This chakra deals with emotions and creativity.

Light orange. Same as orange, only less strong, less mature, more timid.

Dark orange. Greater maturity, more materialistic, less trusting.

Brownish-orange. “Burnt” out. Tendency to be lazy, self-indulgent, low morals. Could denote feeling “burned” emotionally.

Red-orange. Pride, lots of energy.

Yellow-range. Strong intellect, active mind, thoughtfulness.

Bright orange
. Could mean feeling very balanced emotionally.

Peach. Combination of love and wisdom.

Pink. Love, joy, affection. This color symbolizes being in love.

Light pink: Young, immature love.

Deep pink: Mature love

Red. Energy, force, aggressiveness.

Light red: Less energy, less force, less aggression.

Deep red: More reserve, caution and maturity.

Dark red-brown: Anger, negative energy, old karma.

Burgundy: Prosperity, wealth, success

Orange-red: Outgoing, pride, energy

Pink-red violet
: Passion, sex

Rose: Love energy, deep affection

Scarlet: Courage and loyalty

Wine (red-blue): Energy and devotion.

Gold.Associated with success, satisfaction, accomplishment, and the sun. Also, denotes masculine energy. Dreams of gold could represent spiritual rewards, great satisfaction, or spiritual renewal. Dreams about “golden threads” denote spiritual love and a loving connection.

Yellow. Yellow. Associated with the sun. Happiness. Conversely can be showing cowardice. Example: “Yellow belly.” Yellow can show happiness, as a sunny day, or the nauseating feeling of being unable to do the right thing.

So in interpreting our dreams, we can now combine our knowledge that dream symbols should not be read alone, but rather as relative to each other, with the following:

Colors are just as important in dreams as in waking life.

Next: Cool colors

    Hi Cubes,
Briefly, clothing represents our outer appearances, and how we view ourselves. So, the dress represents the feminine, so could be you view yourself as intuitive, receptive, or passive and gentle. In this case, most likely it is typical female thinking, attitude, and orientation.
Without knowing the rest of our dream, that’s what I’d say.
    Much luv & lite,

    Hi Fran,
Yes, my belief is that they would, as colors all come from the source. And that, after all, is what we access during meditation.
    Much luv & lite,

    Hi Ariel,
I don’t remember dreaming in color anymore since the last time I mentioned it in your first article. If you remember I dreamt about wearing the Orange dress and seeing my reflection on the store front nothing else was in color only the dress. Well according to your interpretation orange deals with the 2nd chakra, emotions and creativity. So in my case what does it mean?
    Thanks,
    Cubes 😀

    Hi T,
The colors you  described sounds peaceful and ” light ” to me……I used a product called ” Wall magic ” once that gave fabulous marbling effects and would blend ANY 3 colors. I painted a wall a burl oak color and from a distance it looked like real burl wood paneling.  That product is great for creating  ”  billowy clouds “.

The weather should be clearing by you….very soon. Stay atop the clouds.

    Hug Tatonka for me.

    Dear Ariel,
I’ve enjoyed all of your articles on colors in dreams, but I have a question for you.
If we have a very vivid vision during a meditation, would the same apply to the colors in the vision?
I feel like I’m learning so much from your articles. THANK YOU!

    Hey Gina Rose,
My office is a deep blue color, like the color of the sky, with cherry wood, stained dark(sounds weird but everyone LOVES it). My living room I painted yellow then I painted over it with a vibrant blood red – but I ‘brushed’ it on over the yellow so you can plainly see the brush strokes because the yellow is a lighter background – takes some time but very impressive with alot of energy. And my bedroom is Winne the Pooh yellow – highly calming and with the right lighting(lighting is everything)very soothing, making it a very tranquil place – I’m sure you can visualize all that 🙂
Call when I can – don’t know if asking for the ‘article’ back was wise – maybe it stirred things up(maybe? who am I joking? NASA is still trying to figure out what that anomaly was) however things seem to be getting worse……it might of put a permanent wedge between us….so much anger…
It’s all good though – I used to teach people to fly helicopters & when you have a off day, you get in, fly straight up, through the clouds, and just hover right on top – it was truly amazing – always nice weather above the clouds !!
Hope all is well with you & had an awesome work night…..
