Life is a Journey, Not a Destination

Your Life's Journey

Every Minute is a Gift From the Universe

Life is a journey, not a destination. The problem is that we tend to focus on the destination, rather than what we have to do to get there. Often, my callers express impatience when it comes to their life goals. For example, if they’re in a relationship they say, “I just wish he would hurry up and commit to me.” They’re focusing on the destination, commitment, rather than enjoying the journey of getting to the commitment. Although there is nothing wrong with wanting a committed relationship, this kind of thinking creates angst and doubt. Maybe there’s a better way to look at things.

Something Else Always Follows

We’re so focused on the destination, but what happens after? Once you get that commitment, then what? There is always something else that follows. Let’s say you meet your soulmate and fall in love. Then what? Do you get married, have children, buy a house, retire together and spend the rest of your lives traveling for pleasure? These aren’t merely destinations or benchmarks, so don’t treat them as such. They’re opportunities to learn life lessons and they are significant parts of your karmic journey.

Don’t Rush

Don’t rush past the phases of your life. You don’t want to miss the beautiful opportunities to learn deeply and appreciate the moment. You don’t want to speed past opportunities to nurture relationships, forgive those who have wronged you, and to evolve into a more complete, well-rounded individual—body, mind and spirit. How can you find peace and enjoy life if you are rushing through it?

Be Where You Are

Buddha said, “As you walk, and eat, and travel, be where you are. Otherwise you will miss most of your life.” Life is all about being present in the here and now. Consider taking up meditation to practice being present. It will teach you how to slow down and enjoy your journey. If you can master this, you will have a well-balanced mind, body and spirit. Overall well-being will be achieved.

Big Goals and Little Moments

Having big goals and dreams is an admirable trait, and enjoying your journey doesn’t mean you have to omit your biggest dreams. But you should appreciate the smaller ones just as much. You need to learn all the lessons—big and small. You need to appreciate the blessings along the way—big and small. Take it all in, step by step and stop and smell the roses. This is a more gentle, detailed, grateful approach toward living.

Patience and Appreciation

When you’re quite old, will you say, “Gee, I wish I worked more hours.”? Or will you say, “I’ve seen some beautiful sunsets, kissed my loved ones often and told my children I love them.”? Approach your life as if every second is a gift from the Universe—because it is. Don’t take time for granted because one day you’ll run out of it. Your journey is meant to be fulfilling, but only if you approach your life with patience and appreciation.

Namaste.

    Love this! Great job Aliza!

You have channeled high level content from your guides & helpers in spirit, this mighty message for us is perfectly timed in it’s truth. ‘Big Goals & little moments’, in our world of duality this is profound wisdom & ‘knowing’. This ‘letting go the struggle, letting go the fight, just to ‘be’ is a reality we could all resonate with right now. God bless you for bringing this to us, thanks to you, your beautiful guides & helpers. Namaste

Hi! Aliza, thank u for your article. Yes, I agree we do loose our patience after awhile but, when a situation keeps repeating it gets fustrating and u wonder if it will actually happen.
I know we all know that patience and gratitude are the key and being in the know. For me
I have to slow down and remember this and pray also. Life is so fast we forget also.

Thank you Aliza this was what I needed to hear. I have been having feelings of having to rush everything! and seeing how everyone is rushing to get a slice of the pie, and or using others to put themselves in what they think is a better position. And my soul just wants to scream; stop! your not noticing the flowers or the joy of the child, slow down, make sure your doing the best and enjoying all that you can!! but, no one is listening….

Even when my intellectual side embraces your spiritual truth,

my emotional self, struggles, and impatiently waits, for the ultimate.

My faith is a long journey and a distant destination.

I’m always where I’ve been, as well as where I’m going.

“sitting here watching the wheels spin round and round.”

Thank you. Present life can be a bore, although not without adventure. Your guidelines help, and I thought you may talk more about it.

When Gautama was dying, he said, “Please do not worship me, but remember me as one who woke up.” If all the world helps one wake up, and one still has desire and suffering, and one is aware in the present, but mates and wives, pass away, and present is now the past, must sadness be a constant? I try to see the D. Lama’s outlook, “…, It is neither good nor bad, it just is.” It makes no difference for a heavy heart. Sure there is love, beauty, and kindness, but how would I apply your wonderful criteria, to a long and sad journey? Tired from the persistent waiting, rushing, being, always having to be patient out of necessity, and of course, appreciation, and may I add gratitude.

Trials and tribulations make one tired and impatient, and with blessings and/or curses they abound. I once took a journey, “On the Road to Rishi-Kesh.” A place where death without dying was offered, but rejected. Because a mortal death was mistaken for a conscious death, which was given. I can’t imagine, not waiting, or rushing, (existential Being), having, showing, and being patient, appreciation, and gratitude, but why is it not calming? Why is it so distracting? Why does it not balance desire, and suffering? What does one do, when it is not socially rewarding? Why does mastering such virtues, give no solace?

    Respectfully yours,

    Pitar

Fantastic article !!!!!! Well done, Aliza !

Yes, be present in the moment. The journey is all about learning, and advancing your Karmic growth. It’s the life lessons you learn along the way that truly matters.

Loved the part about being where you are…. and yes, meditation most certainly will help promote harmony of mind/body/spirit.

Best article I’ve read in years on this blog.

    Blessed Be )O(
