Your Daily Focus: September 12-18 | California Psychics

Understanding Your Daily Focus

Summer has long been the fuel of poets and painters, surfers and sailors. It’s a time when anything feels possible, and opportunities are endless. Summer represents sunshine, family, friends, and freedom. Some of my favorite childhood memories take place in the last vestiges of this liminal space. Needless to say, this summer has been an unusual one, and with such an uncertain fall ahead of us, a lot of the normal landmarks of summer ending aren’t in play this year. But we can still take the time to enjoy the last of the summer season before we fall into autumn. Summer is, in so many ways, a state of mind that we can carry within us as we head into the darker days ahead. In this week’s Daily Focus, we will wave a fond farewell to summer and prepare ourselves for the autumn season ahead of us.

Saturday, September 12

“And so, with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” F. Scott Fitzgerald

We have a lot of opportunities to start over throughout our lives, and in a lot of ways, each new season is a clean slate. This is a great time to start thinking about what you want to see in the coming months. What goals can you set for yourself around work, family, relationships, and self-care? Today is a great day to use the last of Virgo’s energy to start making a list and planning ahead.

Sunday, September 13

“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” John Steinbeck

Loss makes us appreciate what we have, pain makes happiness seem so much sweeter, and winter makes us appreciate the warm embrace of summer. But summer makes us appreciate winter as well, and as the long, bright days come to an end, do your best to appreciate the fleeting things in life. The seasons, past relationships, and books you’ve finished. Sometimes the things that are fleeting are the most meaningful.

Monday, September 14

“A man says a lot of things in summer he doesn’t mean in winter.” Patricia Briggs

There is something insubstantial about summer, the time when we can let go of our own ideas about ourselves, be free and feel the sun on our skin. It’s a time for trying things, playing, experimenting, and not be forced to think about the future. Take the time today to enjoy something that may not be a part of your normal routine. Treat yourself!

Tuesday, September 15

“One benefit of summer was that each day we had more light to read by.” Jeannette Walls

Summer is, naturally, very spiritually connected to the sun, the masculine ruler of the sky. The sun represents the physical, the tangible, and the material. There is something luxurious about reading outside on a summer day, and the sun loves luxury. This is a great time to just feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Take advantage of all the opportunities of summer before it’s too late.

Wednesday, September 16

“There was nothing like a Saturday – unless it was the Saturday leading up to the last week of school and into summer vacation. That of course was all the Saturdays of your life rolled into one big shiny ball.” Nora Roberts

Summer is a liminal space, an in-between place where the rules don’t apply. Do you remember how it felt to be a kid on summer vacation? If it’s possible to take some time to be outside today, enjoy the sunshine, and appreciate the feeling of freedom that comes with long, warm days, do so. Try to recapture a little of that wonderful feeling.

Thursday, September 17

“Dandelion wine. The words were summer on the tongue. The wine was summer caught and stoppered…sealed away for opening on a January day with snow falling fast and the sun unseen for weeks…” Ray Bradbury

I love the idea of being able to bottle a season, or the essence of a season. If you find yourself outside today, take a moment to collect a few little pieces of summer. An orange peel, wildflowers, a bright, green leaf. See if you can’t bottle a little bit of summer to carry with you.

Friday, September 18

“I have only to break into the tightness of a strawberry, and I see summer – its dust and lowering skies.” Toni Morrison

What are your favorite things about summer? Fresh fruit? A beach day? Reading on a porch swing? Let summer be a feeling you carry inside of you, let it be the memory of cold iced tea, children laughing, and waves crashing. Raise your face to the sun and let the light enter your body. Store it away for when things are colder and darker.
