Carey from Flint, Michigan asks:<\/p>\n

I recently changed careers<\/strong><\/a>. I felt that my first position was a perfect fit, but did not work out. I was told that this was not because of my skills, but because I wasn’t “engaged” with the team. I wasn\u2019t sure what this meant, and couldn\u2019t get a clear answer from them. I have since changed employers, and enjoy what I do. Is this another growth experience for me, or a fulfilling, long lasting career?<\/em><\/p>\n

Dear Carey,<\/p>\n

First, regarding the statement that your past employer made that you were not “engaged” with the team \u2013 I’ve been there and done that in my life, also! Have you ever felt just not “in sync” with another person? It doesn’t make any difference how much you tried \u2013 you just weren\u2019t on the same “wavelength.” I believe that this is what your past employer felt, and didn’t know how to explain. In other words, you were a square peg in a round hole \u2013 not your fault, although it is a very painful situation to be in.<\/p>\n

Of course, all situations are sometimes (painful) growth situations. But to answer your question, I do feel that you will be successful in your career<\/strong><\/a>. Enjoy yourself!<\/p>\n
