Not being centered can affect you in multiple ways: you might not sleep well, you may be short-tempered, or feel as if you\u2019re not in control of yourself. This is why it is so important to find ways to ground yourself every day. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This month, I am challenging you to a Grounding Challenge. 30 days of taking a few minutes out of your day to focus and be still so that you can reacquire a sense of balance. Some of the challenges are short, while others might take a bit more time, but they will all be worth the time and effort. Let\u2019s begin!<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 1<br>10-Minute Breathing Exercise<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Find a comfortable place to sit and set an alarm for 10 minutes. Firmly place your feet on the ground and close your eyes. Start with taking a nice, long, deep breath \u2013 fill your lungs to capacity. Hold this breath for five seconds, then release it. Be aware of how your chest rises and falls when you are inhaling and exhaling. Take notice of any part of your body that has tightened up, and with each breath imagine that area getting looser and less stressed. When the timer goes off, open your eyes slowly and take a final breath before going about your day.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 2<br>Create a Playlist<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Music can lift you up when you are low, energize you, bring you to tears, and even touch you in a spiritual way. Creating a playlist is so easy now that you can create one for every mood and situation. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 3<br>Take a Hot Bath<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After a long and hectic day, nothing feels better than a long hot soak or a shower. There is something about warm water that can instantly soothe us and bring us back into the moment instead of projecting and losing our focus.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 4<br>Dance to Your Favorite Song<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve already created a playlist, now you\u2019re going to put it to work. Pick out your favorite song and break out those dance moves. Being grounded doesn\u2019t always mean staying still and meditative, it can also include physical activities that bring you joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 5<br>Restart an Old Hobby <br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We all have hobbies and interests that we have put on the back burner because life has a way of getting in the way of living. See what hobbies from your past still stir your interest and revive them.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 6<br>Picture the Face of Someone you Love<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Visualize their face or imagine the sound of their voice. This is a great way to bring the energy of someone that you love into your life when you need or want them the most.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 7<br>Try the 5-4-3-2-1 Method<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Working backward from five, use your senses to list things you notice around you. For example, you might start by listing five things you see, then four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and end with one thing you can taste.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 8<br>Tactile Time<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Place your hand under warm water and feel how the water cascades over your hands and fingers. Dry your hand and feel the roughness of the towel as it is wiped over your hand. Smooth lotion over your hands and notice how it sinks in.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 9<br>Journal for 15 Minutes<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At first it can be hard to write out your thoughts down, but doing so has so many benefits, both in the short and long-term. Don\u2019t worry about punctuation or getting everything \u2018right,\u2019 simply write about where you are, the dream you had last night, or perhaps about something that you are looking forward to doing in the near future. This is something that can be done on a regular basis if you choose to, but don\u2019t feel like you need to write every day.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 10<br>Recite a Favorite Poem or Lyric<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Focus on the words, how they flow, and the imagery they create in your mind.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 11<br>Practice Self-Kindness<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Repeat kind, compassionate phrases to yourself. You can either say them out loud or quietly in your head. Wrapping yourself up like a taco while holding onto a pillow or other item can help us to recreate feelings of safety and love, and who doesn\u2019t want to feel like that?<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 13<br>Get Yourself a \u2018Worry\u2019 Stone<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Worry stones are smooth stones that often have a small indent in them that you can rub when you feel yourself getting anxious.
