I\u2019m writing this during a New Moon and I\u2019m thinking about\nenergy. How we receive it, how we give it, and how we harness and keep it\nwithin ourselves. In this week\u2019s Daily Focus, I want to look at the seven\nchakras, what they do, why they\u2019re important, and how to fix any blockages that\nmay be happening within them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The word \u201cchakra\u201d means disk or wheel, and it works just like a waterwheel, but for energy. This is why you sometimes hear or read about chakras being blocked; the wheel has stopped turning and needs to be adjusted so the flow of energy can continue. You have seven chakras that run the length of your body and up your back, beginning at your feet and ending above your head. Each one deals with a different type of energy and can be tended to in different ways. Let\u2019s take a look at how different blockages manifest, and what we can do to keep our energy flowing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRoot, Muladhara, Red. Located at the base of your spine and\ngrounded through your feet, this chakra is our foundation.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Your Root Chakra grounds us; it connects us to the world and our bodies. If it\u2019s blocked, it can create a feeling of being out of touch with ourselves, or like we can\u2019t connect with people around us. Spending time outside barefoot, or wearing red around the feet, can stimulate this energy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSacral, Svadhisthana, Orange. The second chakra is located\njust above the navel, and it controls the flow of our sexual, creative, and\nemotional energies.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Sacral Chakra balances our desires. If one\u2019s sex drive\nhas been low, or creativity is blocked, try focusing on this chakra. Try\nmeditation to cleanse this space and realign it for better flow. When this chakra\nis flowing well, we will be in touch with our desires, creating things\nnaturally, and in touch with our own emotions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSolar Plexus, Manipura, Yellow. This chakra deals with the\nself, and can help us feel at peace, balanced, and confident.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At the center of our bodies sits our Solar Plexus, and should we get shoved here, the wind gets knocked out of us, and we lose our balance. So it is with this chakra when it is out of alignment that we may feel off balance, or like there is a lack of peace and harmony in our lives. Carrying yellow stones in a pocket, or around the neck can help keep this chakra in alignment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHeart, Anahata, Green. The fourth chakra holds the energy\nfor love, and it\u2019s located near the heart.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s fitting that the Heart Chakra controls the flow of our\nlove energy. This is not just about romance, but about self-love, acceptance,\nand friendship. The heart wants friends and family, to love and be loved in all\nthe ways it possibly can. Saying a daily mantra to keep the Heart Chakra open\nand flowing can help us stay optimistic and empathetic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThroat, Vishuddha, Blue. The Throat Chakra allows us to\ncommunicate.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Throat Chakra channels energy and allows us to speak,\ncommunicate, relay, and absorb information. Feeling intellectually stuck, or being\nunable to communicate our needs, is an indication that this chakra needs to be\nunblocked. Healing and re-aligning our Throat Chakra will allow us to break\nthrough mental barriers and set better boundaries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThird Eye, Ajna, Purple. Located in the center of the\nforehead, the Third Eye Chakra holds the energy for insight, psychic abilities,\nand intuition.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Third Eye Chakra is all about intuition, seeing beyond what\u2019s in front of us. When this chakra is misaligned, we can feel disconnected from ourselves, our dreams, hopes, and our intuition. Focusing on this chakra and opening the Third Eye back up will allow us to manifest our desires, tune in to the people closest to us, and understand where our own needs and wants are coming from. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCrown, Sahasrara, Indigo.
