Greetings fellow seekers. This week was spent packing as my daughter and I will be moving, and as anyone who has moved will know, you never know what you are going to find as you make your way through old boxes. One of the treasures I came across moved me to tears; an old and worn copy of the poem \u201cDesiderata\u201d by Max Ehrmann and it is from this poignant, potent, and just as apropos today (if not more so) poem that we take this week\u2019s Daily Focus and meditations.<\/p>\n
December 7 <\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cGo placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The world around us has become loud, intrusive, overwhelming, and connected in ways that can sometimes be just as much of a curse as a blessing. When we can stay still and quiet amid the cacophony that life can become, we can change the energy around us. Much as a stone thrown into water causes ripples, being still can cause a different type of ripple, one of calmness that I think most people and the world could desperately use more of. Today\u2019s word is Serenity.<\/p>\n December 8 <\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAs far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n It doesn\u2019t cost any more energy to be kind and to try to get along with people, but there is nothing wrong with setting limits. You do not have to lower your expectations of people in order to be on decent terms with them either, which leads us to tomorrow\u2019s meditation. Today\u2019s word is Amicable.<\/p>\n December 9 <\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAvoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n People who are aggressive or overly loud can have energy that is painfully forceful, and it can definitely take a toll on our own energy reserves. This is one of those times that it is more than okay to set boundaries, whether they are for acquaintances or even friends or family. Protecting your energy is an important aspect of maintaining your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. If your being calm does not help to diffuse a person or situation, then it is time to step back and limit your time around those people or places. Sometimes we just have to walk away. Today\u2019s word is Boundaries.<\/p>\n December 10<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cEnjoy your achievements as well as your plans.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Every step of your journey is worthy of celebration and enjoyment! You don\u2019t have to wait for the end result to be proud of what you are working on, even if it does sometimes feel that way. Making a plan is an important first step in realizing your dreams, so enjoy the planning stage as much as you do actively working on it. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Sadly, the world has its fair share of people who are only out for themselves and will do whatever it takes to get ahead in the world, but this shouldn\u2019t preventing us from having hope. For every person who is trying to pull one over on the world, there is someone who is doing whatever they can to help those around them. If we focus on the negatives that we see we will miss out on the wonders that exist in equal measure. Today\u2019s word is Philanthropic.<\/p>\n December 12 <\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cNeither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Sometimes we open our hearts to those who end up hurting us and if it happens enough, we can feel as if love is nothing but a myth. When we close ourselves off from the possibility of love we cheat ourselves out of so much! Not everyone is going to hurt or betray you, and it is always much healthier to keep our hearts and our minds open to the possibilities. Today\u2019s word is Everafter.<\/p>\n December 13<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cMany fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n When we are tired or feel as if we are alone, nothing seems right. All our fears and insecurities claw their way up from that dark place and then the negative self-talk begins to chip away even further at any remaining hopefulness and confidence. Always be as gentle with yourself as you are with others who are going through trying times. You deserve that love and understanding as much as anyone else does.
