30 years ago I broke up with a woman and I believe we have unfinished business. The breakup was traumatic for both of us\u2014it was quite sudden. Recently, I was on a social media site looking through some posts, and I came across a picture of hers. Since then, I have been reminiscing. That turned into nightmares. One night the nightmare was so bad that my wife said I kicked her in my sleep. Another time I was yelling in my sleep. I don\u2019t know why this is happening to me and I\u2019m wondering if it\u2019s going to continue. The woman from my nightmares is also in a relationship. The last time we spoke was 10 years ago on the phone. Why am I thinking of her now? Do we have some unfinished business I need to take care of?<\/i><\/p>\n

You are haunted by pain. This is what this unfinished business is about. Over the years, you\u2019ve managed to repress the pain, anger, and disappointment that came from your breakup, along with the wondering of what could have been. Your nightmares are trying to help you heal, although it doesn\u2019t feel like it while you\u2019re having them. They are helping you sort this pain out, with the goal of releasing it so you can once again have peace in your heart.<\/p>\n

You do not need to reach out to her to try to attain healing, because your healing will come through consciously forgiving her and yourself. It appears that the third parties who were encouraging the breakup must be forgiven too. Once you do this and continue to maintain a forgiving mindset, the painful sense of unfinished business will leave you and your nightmares will cease. Will you reconcile? It doesn\u2019t look like it. In fact, any attempt to do so would not only be disappointing, it would, of course, hurt those around you and her, causing even more pain. I can see that your wife loves you very much. Had things gone differently and you continued with your past flame, you two would have eventually broken up anyway.<\/p>\n

Forgiveness is your pathway to peace of heart, mind, and soul. I hope you will do what it takes to heal yourself because it is the most loving thing you can do now.<\/p>\n
