My boyfriend of 1.5 years lost a very big job in July of 2017. He rebounded with a new job quickly at a very high pay scale but was once again mislead by senior executives and let go in October of 2017. Losing the two jobs has been a blow to him and he has left our home. We have not reconciled. He tried to call me, so I blocked his number. He sends me emails instead. His belongings are everywhere and I’m sick of looking at it all. He says he’s sending movers to get his stuff, but he hasn’t followed through on that promise. <\/i><\/i><\/p>\n

I’d really like him to go back to the person he was before he lost those two big jobs. I thought we could conquer all our challenges together and I did not expect him to leave me. I am trying to focus on myself, but this situation is depressing me. We were on track for a fun, fairy-tale, soulmate connection and now it just feels really dark. I am not even hopeful at this point, but I’m wondering why he hasn’t picked up his stuff yet.<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n

This nightmare is very difficult for you and your boyfriend to deal with. It would be hard for anyone. It would have been better if he had been able to stay with you, for there would then have been a chance to work through the pain and shock of everything together. Unfortunately, your boyfriend left because he suffered terrible blows to his self-esteem\u2014so much so that he was embarrassed and ashamed for you to even look at him. He felt like a failure and does so still. He knows he shouldn\u2019t have run away, but he couldn\u2019t face you and the disappointment you couldn\u2019t help but feel.<\/p>\n

Your boyfriend hasn\u2019t picked up his stuff or sent movers yet because he wants to come back to you. He knows you are very angry and that you feel he betrayed your trust by behaving as he did. Even so, he\u2019s hoping the two of you can reconcile. In his time alone, he\u2019s rethinking things regarding his jobs. While he felt misled by those in charge, he\u2019s also realizing he could have handled things better there, too. Therapy would be of great help to him right now. It would help him heal more quickly and get back on track again, not only with his career but also with you.<\/p>\n

While he can never return to the person he was before these terrible occurrences, if he does his inner work, he will become an even better person. His self-respect will be restored and your love will once again flourish. You can still have what you dreamed of before by building foundations to support your dreams\u2014but only if you two work together to achieve it.<\/p>\n
