Callers have a real knack for focusing on important human\u00a0needs. One lady I spoke with recently asked &#8220;How can I be more secure\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.californiapsychics.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/are-they-lying-or-are-you-insecure.html\">when I feel so insecure<\/a><\/strong> regarding my whole life?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This lady in particular felt totally stuck. She felt that her\u00a0marriage was totally stagnant. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.californiapsychics.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/why-women-stay-after-an-affair.html\/\">Afraid her\u00a0husband was having an affair<\/a><\/strong>, she felt unattractive to him and he\u00a0refused to communicate with her on how to better the situation. He\u00a0refused to go to counseling, saying nothing was &#8220;wrong&#8221; with him and\u00a0that he didn&#8217;t see the point, feeling it a waste of time and money.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>From his point of view, everything was satisfactory\u2014he went to work in\u00a0the day and out at night, leaving his wife home with the three children.\u00a0My point here is not that I feel the woman is the victim and the man\u00a0the victimizer. My point is that in our reading I saw that while she\u00a0could not change her husband, she could change the circumstances in her\u00a0life, enough to open the way to a new way of thinking for herself.<\/p>\n<p>I told her that I saw her pursuing one new activity for herself,\u00a0whether it be working out at the gym twice a week or going to a class\u00a0with other women or some similar activity. She admitted that she had\u00a0thought about this but that she had never followed through. And, she asked, what difference would that make to her marriage?<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes an answer is given to me to a caller&#8217;s question where the\u00a0answer may not at first seem relevant at all. It is not my intention\u00a0to be mysterious. But sometimes the answer isn&#8217;t the straightforward\u00a0one that could be expected, not a yes or a no or a &#8220;you need to leave\u00a0him and find someone else.&#8221; In her case, for example, the answer was\u00a0given that she needed to add something to her own life, to make a\u00a0positive change in some fashion.<\/p>\n<p>When she asked what difference such an activity would make to her\u00a0marriage, I told her that I could see several avenues. One was that she\u00a0would develop a support system that would enable her to make a positive\u00a0change, other women who would encourage and advise her. Another path\u00a0possible was that her husband would start seeing her as an individual,\u00a0not just a mother or a wife, but a person who was multi-faceted. Still\u00a0another was that she would develop some personal energy and perspective\u00a0on where she wanted to go.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, to feel more secure in our lives, sometimes we need to make a small change.<\/p>\n<p>The big change might seem out of our reach and ability at first. A\u00a0small change that we enjoy is not so impossible to achieve, especially\u00a0with the encouragement of others. This lady felt unloved,<br \/>\nunappreciated and isolated. I would encourage her to begin with the\u00a0small things. There are many sayings I have heard in this regard. One\u00a0is that &#8220;to lose 100 pounds, you have to lose the first pound&#8221; and &#8220;to\u00a0walk a hundred miles, you have to walk the first mile.&#8221; And this is so true\u00a0in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.californiapsychics.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/relationships-101.html\">our personal relationships<\/a><\/strong>. To achieve the results that we want,\u00a0first we must begin with the small things.
