It seems far-fetched.<\/p>\n
We could debate all we want about the existence of a Bank of Karma \u2013 a place where good deeds are stored until you need them, with good turns handed out at fate\u2019s whim – but it wouldn\u2019t do any good.<\/p>\n
Even if there were a Bank of Karma, they\u2019ve probably closed my local branch and it\u2019s all internet-based now or something or you have to go through a call center with a multitude of options you can\u2019t fathom before talking to a member of staff you can\u2019t understand when all you want to know is how to pay in your check.<\/p>\n
But what about a Bank of Time? Now you\u2019re talking. You thought your bank was mean \u2013 look at this: the Bank of Time never lends, there\u2019s no interest paid and when you\u2019ve spent your balance they close your account and that\u2019s it. There are no call centers, but that\u2019s OK because you can never pay into it.<\/p>\n

The security features are not that great. Someone else can get their hands on your time if your account is not being used. You can either spend your time yourself or you can let someone else spend it for you.<\/p>\n
OK \u2013 they\u2019re not totally heartless. You can use your time for anything you like. You can give it away and hold it back, but the fact is it will run out.<\/p>\n
Time, like money, can be saved. You can spend it on someone else, but it has no value on its own and it\u2019s worth nothing without you.<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t expect much change out of twenty four hours, either. You can\u2019t cram too much into any given day, because like your real money, you have to invest it. You need to sleep and eat and work at your relationships and learn and practice \u2013 all the things that will bring you a meaningful return on your time, as long as you spend it.<\/p>\n
And save some for yourself. We\u2019ve all seen those parents of partners who do everything for other people and nothing for themselves \u2013 they’re often miserable. Spend some time just for you. You\u2019ll be happier and that makes other people happy. There\u2019s the karma.<\/p>\n
