Since I was a little girl, I have always been aware of three voices in my head – which makes me sound a little unbalanced, to say the least – so I don’t mention this to many people. Part of the way I have made it through life in spite of my disabilities is the voice of an older woman that advises me. There is a child, which I took to be my true feelings<\/a><\/strong> – and the very clear voice of a male – a man probably in his middle 30s to 40s. He is the voice of reason or the mediator. I have always known things from before – like another life. When I was five, I knew I wanted to go to college and learn as much as I could. No one in my family had ever gone. In your opinion, are these spirit guides<\/a><\/strong>?<\/em><\/p>\n

Dear Sherry,<\/p>\n

I saved your letter especially for Thanksgiving week because you have shown so beautifully how unseen forces are\u00a0around us, and ready, willing and able to help each of us in unpredictable and wonderful ways.<\/p>\n

Whether we choose to call those forces spirit guides, angels, gods and goddesses or, simply, Buddha, Allah or God, acknowledging and believing in their presence (and being open to their help when we need it) can produce real miracles. Even the wisest of people, when faced with the prospect of a disability such as yours, would be unlikely to come up with the ingenious and truly useful support system that your spirit guides provide for you.<\/p>\n

So, yes, in my opinion, your voices are spirit guides.<\/p>\n

What you may not realize is that you have other guides, ones who are not directly involved in supporting your successful navigation through a challenged life. Instead, they represent a new possibility that you may want to consider.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure that people have already told you that you express yourself beautifully in writing. You\u2019re also extremely creative and imaginative, and have more than your share of determination\u2026 no doubt another one of the reasons that you have been able to thrive in the face of a disability that would utterly defeat most people!<\/p>\n

Your so-far-silent guides want you to know that you could find a great deal of satisfaction, and possibly help others who have your disability and (if your financial structure permits) generate significant income by writing. These new guides would help you in many ways. Romantic stories about soul mates, magical stories peopled with spirit guides and mythical beings, or down-to-earth advice about meeting your disability challenges with wisdom and heart… you could do any and all of these if you choose.<\/p>\n

And there\u2019s no pressure to do this. It\u2019s simply a gift of possibility which you are free to accept or leave behind.<\/p>\n
