Kelly Preston Too Old for Pregnancy at 47?

It’s safe to say that the last year and a half has been an unending roller-coaster ride for John Travolta and Kelly Preston, his wife of almost 20 years. Earlier this week, it was reported that Travolta’s two dogs were both struck and killed by an airport pick-up truck in what has been said to have been a “freak accident” (and not an intended act of cruelty towards the family). Travolta and his family also suffered a tragic loss early last year – their oldest son Jett died in January of 2009 from a seizure, at the age of 16. However,  happier news has finally made its way to the surface of these heavy hearts with a confirmation that was announced today…

The still very-much-in-love couple is expecting their third child together! Travolta and Preston also have a daughter, Ella, who is 10. The Huffington Post confirms that the rumor is in fact true. The couple announced it on their website, stating, “It’s impossible to keep a secret… especially one as wonderful as this. We want to be the first to share this great news with everyone that we are expecting a new addition to our family.” Congrats to you, John, Kelly and Ella!

It’s great news that amidst the crisis and tragedy, a family can become even closer through the miracle of bringing new life into the world. It’s interesting, though, how more and more women nearing their 50s are still interested in becoming pregnant and raising families. Preston is 47, turning 48 this October… and not to say she shouldn’t become a mom again, but should age be taken into consideration after a certain point? Having children late in life certainly seems to be a rising trend – does older age effect motherhood?

DivineCaroline seems to think so… what do you think? Why are so many women waiting until much later to start or add to families?

Power couple! This couple is strong.
I am sad for them that they have had some devastating times. However, with the love that they have for each other, and all of the years together, this couple can still be in love and find more happiness in their future. Miss Krystal

Hello Justine! This is so great. For so long women have been looked at as “over the hill” after age 30. My life didn’t begin to get good untill 38! I just had a baby at age 41. It was a perfect pregancy. My delivery ws so easy I felt a little guilty. ( Thank you Yoga!) I know who I am. I love and accept myself. I choose to have Lilly as a single mother. When I was 30, even 35, I never would have had the courage to do something like that. I love being an older mommy. Wait a minute… who’s deciding what “older” is? Maybe everyone else had them to young.

    Hi, Justine,

I am the product of “older” parents and, just my opinion, I have always felt it turned out really nicely for me. They seemed to be more mellow with a mature viewpoint and, fortunately, I had them both in my life for a very long time, so I was not parentless by my college years, etc. They were young enough to be active and do outdoor activities and take trips with my brother and I and old enough to not “sweat the small stuff”.

Just my opinion in this post.

Big congratulations to Kelly, John, and Ella. Many condolences on the loss of your dogs.

    Sincerely,

    Maryanne

    Hi Justine,

Yes, I saw on TV news about dogs……how sad.

It’s nice to see a couple in the public eye still happily married.

I think it depends on the individual planning to have a baby…..In general, I do believe older women can make good mothers as they usually have more patience .

I wish them both health & happiness …..

I also hope John holds the airport people accountable for the dog accident.

    Hi Justine,

Way to go Kelly and John, I personally don’t believe 47 is too old, it is a personal opinion and should be respected by all, so with that said, “BIG CONGRATS”….

    Blessings and Big Hugs!
