How to Find Gratitude Everyday

Remaining in Gratitude

A grateful heart is a grace-filled heart. Gratitude invites more grace into our lives. A grateful person lives life in a gracious way with poise and ease. As gratitude and grace flow to and from our hearts, love pours through us to all who have the good fortune to be in our presence. It’s like Reiki; when a Reiki healer lays their hands on someone, not only does the energy flow out, it flows through the healer. So, both receive a healing. How often do we only see the half-empty glass rather than the half-full one? In our daily lives, our cups runneth over when we take a close look.

It’s a choice. Every moment, we have the choice to see all the gifts that have been bestowed upon us or we can look at the holes in the fabric of our lives.

I have a friend who practices what I call “impossibility thinking” or as they say in 12-step programs, “contempt prior to investigation.” Whenever a new idea is suggested, his immediate response is, “no, no, no, that can’t be done because….blah, blah, blah!” When he starts his tirade on the impossible, I immediately tune him out. For me, it’s survival – survival of my grace-filled life. Gratitude opens the door for all kinds of possibilities. A grateful heart lives in the land of possibilities and promise.

So, the next time you’re hit with unexpected challenges, while it’s important to look for solutions, maintain a balanced outlook on your life by incorporating gratitude for all you have been given, starting with the gift of life.

It never rains in Southern California, but when it does, it pours, so says the lyricist. Often the streets are flooded during a rainstorm. But at the same time, the air is purified and grass, flowers and trees are nurtured and blossom because of the precious gift of rain.. Rain is wonderful. Growing up in New York, I learned to complain when it rained; the scarcity of rain here in Southern California, helped me to appreciate how nurturing and life-affirming rain actually is.

So, when there are difficulties in our lives, look for the lesson, the teaching in those difficulties, and ask for guidance to see the gift. A spiritual teacher of mine says that there is always a gift on the other side of every pain, of every challenge. It’s all part of the natural balance that exists in the universe.

We all go through periods in our lives when we feel empty and life feels meaningless. This is natural. Often, we do things to fill in the emptiness and distract ourselves from this “dark night of the soul.” The more we can allow ourselves to experience the emptiness without taking measures to fill up the hole, the closer we are to our next level of transformation. So, hang in there, and develop an attitude of gratitude about all that life brings. Drink it all in; open your heart and soul to receive and give thanks.

Before one moves ahead, they need to take stock and personal inventory in what they do have and can utilize, and use THAT as a springboard to launch forward…..

…taking constant stock in what you don’t have leads nowhere.

    Nice article, Marceea
