1. Practice Gratitude Daily
Being appreciative for what you have isn’t just a Thanksgiving exercise. Showing your gratitude to the people you love and for the riches in your life will make you happier, more fulfilled and more joyful each and every day. You may even want to keep a journal of your blessings (or whatever you’d like to call them). Or, go around the dinner table and share what you’re grateful for each day. Or, put up a gratitude board where everyone can post what they appreciate about life—and each other.

2. Think Before You Speak
Taking pause before you blurt out what’s on your mind is a very effective way to have a happier (and emotionally healthier!) home. But it’s not easy. If you’re angry, frustrated or in the midst of a conflict, sometimes you can’t help but say whatever negative or even mean thoughts are brewing inside your brain. However, taking a deep breath before uttering a response can keep resentment from breeding within your environment.

3. Make Sure You’re Nourishing Yourself
We all love our comfort food (chips, candy, mac and cheese, donuts, etc.). But filling your home and your body, with enriching food will make you both healthier and happier—both in the short- and long-term. You’ll feel better and could even live longer. Hard to argue with that, right?

4. Make Time for Fun
Get out the karaoke machine or start a game of tag—whatever you can do to get everyone moving and laughing. By releasing endorphins and staying active, everyone in your home will be in better moods and stay more fit and healthy. Plus, when you have fun together you’ll make memories that will last a lifetime.
