How to Start a New Life in 6 Steps

How to Start a New Life in 6 Steps

Begin Your Transformation

At some point in your journey through this world, you may decide to make a major change and start a new life. Perhaps you’re ending a long-term relationship, moving to a completely new city (or country), embarking on a healthy lifestyle, or switching careers. Whatever your new life looks like, you’re sure to feel a multitude of emotions during this time, as well as experience some growing pains. Starting a new life can feel like a daunting task, and it is, but it doesn’t have to feel impossible.

Make Change More Manageable

There are steps you can take to make this period of growth more manageable, and to ensure that you’ll come out of it thriving. Here’s a six-step plan to start a new life. It will help you weather changes with courage and self-awareness, and it’s guaranteed to make you feel empowered.

1. Envision the Life You Want
This period of change is a great time to do some soul-searching, and to figure out how you want your new life to look and feel. Ask yourself:

  • Why is my current life unfulfilling?
  • What are my new priorities?
  • What will truly make me happy?
  • If I could be or do anything, what would it be?

Use these questions as a jumping-off point to dream up your new life.

2. Start a Journal
Now is the ideal time to put pen to paper (or start a document on your computer) so you can devote some time to jotting down your feelings about starting a new life. Write down your goals, needs, fears, and expectations. And don’t worry about writing in complete sentences, or even writing at all—you may be inspired to draw pictures. You may also want to include some inspirational quotes. The important thing is that you’re creating a record of your journey that will help you stay on track and get to where you want to be.

3. Focus on Self-Care
During this time, it’s imperative that you put your attention where it belongs—on you. The stress of starting a new life can be difficult to manage, so having a strong self-care routine is critical for transitioning with ease. Be sure that you’re getting ample sleep, that you’re exercising and eating right, and that you’re devoting your time to positive endeavors that will help you along. This is not the time to waste your energy by being around people who try to dissuade you from your goals, or to stop taking care of yourself.

4. Take the First Step Toward Your New Future
Whatever it is that you’re embarking on, it can’t happen until you decide to take that first step. If you’re ending a relationship, get rid of the items your ex gifted you, and remove photos of you two from around your home. If you’re seeking a new career path, revisit your resume. If you’ve decided to make a significant lifestyle change, clean out your pantry and donate or throw away foods that will hinder you from meeting your goal. Starting a new life starts with one simple step—then continues as you take another, then another, and then another.

5. Stay on Track by Asking for Help
Enlist a friend or family member to be your accountability partner as you start a new life. This person can be a sounding board for you as you make this transition and they can encourage you to remain on this new path when you get discouraged. Having a cheerleader will help you feel less alone and make you more likely to keep going—even when it’s hard.

6. Look Back on Your Progress
Don’t forget to look back sometimes to see how far you’ve come. Each month read a few old journal entries or scroll through photos of your past life to remind yourself who you were then, and who you’re becoming. You might even consider meditating on what your life would be like right now if you didn’t make a change. Seeing this tangible transformation over time will continue to inspire you as you work to start a new life.

I thought I was instead I was living like a labrat, I was true with my heart and soul still am and still is remind single. I don’t want anyone to be mad at me and I am sincerely not mad at any, treat me like a friend and talk teach you can find better results, I grew up most likely different from yall , so when you come with games nono. This is a shocker to me when I started to see truth i didn’t go to complete dick mode on nobody, however in past you would been still hearing my voice cussing ass up and down, I am glad that I am waking up day by day and about to just go and go somewhere else but here, I see people whisper and laugh I bet sherrie is behind this cuz she is pure devil bitch no heart , I have seen how she has zero respect of anything, I feel a fire has started in my gut feeling it getting hotter and hotter I am about to turn and snap on every person who is trying to ruin my heart, I will stand and always will be better than the assholes, but how much should I bear from them, even people who I knew for years are looking at me crazy, I feel she heard what I have said somehow about me, she has done this before to me and I still gave her a second chance and I would still go pull her from a house fire or any harm just like I would yall , I don’t know why I was born this way, however I am verge of snapping on being abused over and over again. Is there not anymore self honor and faith in hearts of people. I pray for this world.

Wow!! Is how I want to start my sentence. That me in a nut shell, laid off my job after 17-years. Had to move in with my daughter, husband and grandchildren. What a hand full trying to take baby step to my goal. I know what I want already and I also ended my relationship.
