Art, History and Religion

Before we look at the number 12 in numerological terms, let’s see how the number 12 has played a role in history, art, religion and how it is so significant in our everyday lives. In both the western and Chinese zodiacs there are 12 signs. There are 12 months in a calendar year and we typically go through 12 years of school. Even our 24-hour clock is usually broken down into two 12-hour parts (12 AM hours and 12 PM hours). In religious history, there are 12 days of Christmas, 12 apostles and the 12 tribes of Israel. Twelve is the number of basic hues in the standard color wheel. Twelve people have walked on the face of the Moon and even in our legal system a jury usually consists of 12 jurors. King Arthur’s court had 12 knights (not including Arthur), and even William Shakespeare wrote a comedy called the “Twelfth Night.” There are even more 12 references, but you get the idea.

A Higher Octave

In numerology the number 12 is a higher octave 3, representing growth from the physical to the spiritual and vice-versa. The number 1 symbolizes beginnings, the number 2 symbolizes growth and development, and 3 is the symbol of rebirth as we pass from one realm to the other—from this side to the other side.

The Double- and Single-Digit Numbers

Although we typically reduce double digits down to the single-digit form in numerology, the double-digit numbers have their own significant meaning. In numerology the number 12 represents the highly creative, artistic and individualistic. It is a number of “self” versus being part of a group. If you were born on the 12th (or the 3rd) you are uniquely creative and talented in writing and speaking, and your enthusiasm for life can also make you a great salesperson.

12 in Life

Also, in numerology, the number 12 is a sign of completion and culmination. A quick look at the history of the date 12/12 in our own culture would support that theory. For instance, it was on 12/12/2000 that General Motors announced that it would begin to phase out its 103-year old Oldsmobile brand (the oldest automotive brand in the U.S.). Another significant occurrence on 12/12 happened in 1989 when the “Queen of Mean,” Leona Helmsley, was sentenced to jail for tax evasion. Ironically, when she passed in 2007, she left $12 million dollars to her dog.

12 in Creation

In addition to the completion properties of the number 12, it is also a number centered on creation. It’s in everything from the complex calculations of the universe to the number of things within our own bodies, such as carbon-12. Without looking very hard, we can find the number 12 all around us.

When we come upon the date 12/12, the most important thing to recognize is that like a 12-volt battery, everything and everyone is energy and we are all connected to the cosmos.

Dear Debbie and Otilio: You are both special and it is awesome that you both feel it and know it. You both have a unique ability to heal those you touch (spiritually and physically). I love that you want to share it with others, because that’s what you’re meant to do. Helping others is the greatest gift – for you as well as those you connect with. Bless you.

My birthdate is the 12th of July. I have always felt special. I really do have an open mind to the universe and helping people. My career is a nurse and I feel in my spirit that I am a mental healer, however, I am often taken advantage of from those who take my kindness for my weakness. I just know that God will reward me openly. I am honored to know that the number 12 and its denominators are special
