Chinese New Year: the Year of the Rat

Chinese New Year: The Year of the Rat | California Psychics

Restarting with the Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year of the Rat on the Crossbeam begins on January 25. This is a Yang/Masculine, Metal element year. Chinese astrologers use the animals as simpler symbols of a highly complex system of elements and cycles that ultimately divide into a cycle of twelve – a Jupiter/new wisdom cycle. Find the joy of reflecting on what was happening in your life 12 years ago and what you’ve accomplished through your own animal energy:

Restart and Reset

While every Chinese New Year prompts thoughts of restarting or resetting parts of our lives, this particular year will reflect the constant need for change. Thankfully, we each have Rat qualities to guide us through the process of cutting old ties to clear the way for unforeseen, massive changes in 2020.

Rats naturally begin new cycles, having the human qualities to succeed in these situations – quick-wittedness, inventiveness, adaptability, and sociability. Rats understand complexities and the abstract, using this knowledge to seize opportunities using personal charm and wit.

Eclipses and Breakthroughs

The Chinese calendar is lunar based, so the New Moon that opens the Chinese New Year is tied to the previous Solar Eclipse New Moon which occurred on December 25/26, 2019. Eclipses are harbingers of major changes, too. The weeks around solar and lunar eclipses offer upsets of the expected, as the doors are open to what’s new. These times make the Rat’s energy a true gift.

Another powerful ritual from the Chinese calendar is observing the phases of the moon – beginning with the “dark of the (new) moon” on Chinese New Year. This observable event takes place at the same time minutes begin to be added to both sunrise and sunset in the Northern Hemisphere, lengthening the days. This is incremental, yet observable. Suddenly, your calendar is sacred, with new roots in the power of earth and sky cycles.

Your Rat on the Crossbeam View

The Rat’s view from the crossbeam offers a particular edge while observing the interactions of everyday life. This reveals what trail to blaze for success. This is when your psychic connections and use of rituals serve you best.

The human tragedy that each person suffers on a regular basis is losing touch with our relationships to our planet, our skies, and the love of life that drives us. We genuinely need to repair and heal ourselves through reaching out to the light, the planet that gives us life, and to each other. Use your keen powers of observation and adaptability to help yourself and others find that life-giving connection again.

Celebrating the Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year speaks to our unconscious. As the most important holiday in many nations throughout Asia – we feel the energy of a massive part of humanity reverberate around the globe. We can directly celebrate this event throughout the world where there are Asian populations. If you’re in or near a population center, you can likely find a celebration where you can participate and benefit from the shared joyous power.

The symbolism of the Chinese New Year combined with the Metal Rat’s meaning should be reflected by your actions for the day’s activities. Offer gifts of money in red envelopes and share dumplings or cakes. Avoid incurring or collecting debts during this period, as this doesn’t support the Chinese New Year’s meaning.

Clearing the Space for the New Year

If you aren’t near a Chinese New Year celebration, or are unable to attend, you can still tap into the energy through ritual. Literally, physically, and figuratively, you can sweep out the unneeded and cut ties with that which no longer works.

Clean out everything from your car to your closets. You may likely find things that others can use that you no longer want. While it may seem tedious and unpleasant at first, you’ll be surprised by the happiness and power that comes from letting things go. These physical activities become sacred ones when approached with love and conscious purpose – your new sacred space.

Consciously cleaning, sweeping, and cooking – including the powerful metal element of cutting – are sacred acts. Even having a haircut before the Chinese New Year is a positive ritual. Negative actions should be avoided during these times, as well as incurring or collecting debts.

Past-Present-Future

Chinese New Year is also a time to honor ancestors and deities. Recognize them with love and reverence as the foundation of who you are as you open windows to your future and those who will follow you, restarting and resetting with love.

Keep it with You Throughout the Year

The Chinese New Year is a time to welcome in abundance, happiness, and good luck, to refresh the reserves and go into the next year with a completely fresh start. It doesn’t have to end when the celebrations are over though. The rituals accompanying Chinese New Year are done to ensure that the good things follow you throughout the year, so feel free to take the hope of the Chinese New Year with you as you walk through the rest of 2020.
